LISTEN CLOSELY....
I DONT KNOW FOR SURE IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR PROBLEM BUT SOMEONE ON A BLACKBERRY TYPE FORUM ONCE GAVE INSTRUCTIONS SEEMINGLY TO HELP PEOPLE WITH BLACKBERRY TO USE SMS/MMS. PART OF THE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED CHANGING THE SERVICE NUMBER TO THE NUMBER IN QUESTION:
13348000011
Here is the link to that post so you can see what I'm talking about:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackB ... p/468227#M66088
The text is below but NOTE: THOSE INSTRUCTIONS WERE POSTED TO MULTIPLE PLACES. JUST GOOGLE "13348000011" WITHOUT THE QUOTES.
MAYBE YOU TRIED THOSE INSTRUCTIONS? IF NOT, THEN PERHAPS SOMEONE IS SPOOFING THE SENDING PHONE NUMBER. BEST WISHES.
BEGINNING OF THAT POST:
Re: 8350i Cannot send SMS only MMS. Nextel says BB don't support SMS.Options
Mark as New
"OK people, If you want your BB 8350i to be able to have the "Compose SMS text" option just follow these instructions, and let me know if it works for you guys:
1) Go to "Options">"SMS Text",
2) Where it says "Data Coding", change it to & make sure it says "UCS2",
3)Where it says "Service Center", type: +13348000011 and click "Save",
4) Try to MMS someone and make sure it sends/receives MMS normally from your handset,
5) Do a battery pull and now it should appear the "Compose SMS Text" option when you press the BB menu button.

Received text from 92466501 from a MartinBrewster88. Met this person on millionaire.com who was using a reg email address then received text from 92466501. Gave me a line about being a millionaire and a gold wholesaler. He was to live in Napa, CA and travels to Ghana, Africia to purchase gold. It was a scam he only wanted money.

I received a text like this today, 2-27-09, 7:42pm. But there were a few differences;
first, it didn't come from this phone number, and second, two messages came one right after the other.
The first message came from 92466601, which doesn't appear to me to be a phone number, but I don't know what kind of number it is. The message said: "a yahoo user is trying to send you a text message. When it arrives, select 'Reply' to continue the conversation. For more info, visit, mobile.yahoo.com.
The second message came from 92466501,had the same time and date stamp, and said,"michelle_ve8r70: 'Sup.i heard about you, and I wanted to say hi. Umm, I'm kinda timid, so maybe you come find me online. I have a profile at friend-pile.org
My wireless carrier is verizon, and I currently do not have a data package plan on my cell phone, nor do I have a full internet ready phone, although it is available should I access it, on a pay as you go basis; which if you spend some time on it, and/or download, will be costly.
So this unwanted message pisses me off for a number of reasons;
>How did they get my number?!
>If I would have been duped into replying, I would have likely racked up additional charges for using services not subscribed to in my plan.
>They've already stolen two text messages that I do pay for, and by way of them coming from what I'm to believe is an online source, I wonder if I haven't already accrued some charges for it.
>And after reading some of the entries on this site, which came up in relevancy listings when I tried to find via ask.com this so-called 'friend-pile.com' site to figure out what the hell; Now I have to wonder if these nuisance messages are going to keep coming as they have for some others.
I'll apologize for the length of my comments in this report - but there is one thing that I want to add, and ask about, which may or may not be important to this whole thing and how it started, or how they got numbers.
There is only one thing I can think of that I did differently lately.
And that was to call a toll free customer service number for samsung that the headquarters of which were supposed to be based in Texas.
However, it was obvious that the people I spoke to were foreign, and probably one of those call banks I've heard about in India. They asked for my phone number, address, and wireless carrier associated with the device. They also asked for my email address for "product and promotional information purposes" - I declined that - no need for anymore junk email.
My questions are this: I wonder if kept they've kept that information for it's intended purpose? Or shared, sold, or otherwise proliferated it with other companies, marketers, or something? How can we/I be sure what becomes of such information once it in the hands of, and at access to someone on foreign soil? Somebody who just works in some call bank somewhere?
I've thought about this now, and want to ask, or maybe suggest that you ask yourselves if you have called and/or given out your information to any such sort of phone operators, call banks, customer service, or perhaps by way of ordering something;and maybe found yourself speaking with someone that may have given you the impression that it was one of those 'farmed-out' sources or service reps.
And if so, did you do so prior to receiving these unwanted text messages?
I hope people will give this some thought, and respond, and check back on these postings and maybe update them if they find anything out or get some resolution.
I know I will. I'm not putting up with this crap - no one should. I'm going to run this down to the chief of detectives of a law enforcement agency I know. Who I am confident will get in contact with an associate of his in the cyber-crimes unit at F.B.I. - Because, ladies and gentlemen, whether you realize it or not, this is a bigger crime than a pain in our a***s.
