They aren't allowed... they are breaking the law. Let's be clear. See my message below.

I can block these callers by choosing 'send to voicemail' on my droid phone. I have a contact called 'stupid robocall' that i just add the number to when it asks me when I decline it. Then, if they call back, it shows in my history but doesn't bother me.

It is true, this is a robocall service, under the FCC radar, that spoofs numbers and calls you. It's a scam, and people who are doing this are doing it illegally. No do not call list will prevent someone from illegally calling your line. Because the technology is so weak with these 'companies' you often get silent calls or weird noises, etc.

Calling the FCC won't change anything, unless you put a block on your phone that only allows specific callers to call you. (Meaning nobody else can) They will continue to spoof numbers (remember, they are breaking the law) so they are a moving target.

The technology has legitimate purposes; it allows companies to use backup phone systems in cases of outage, or remote work arrangements,  and still show appropriately on caller ID, etc. so it's hard to make that illegal as it is used quite frequently for legal purposes.

You could buy a magic jack or net zero phone and set it up with a local number and make all kinds of calls and just unplug it and pitch it when people get wise. Like I said, it's a moving target.

i got 2 phone calls from this number this morning. When I called back and it said that the phone is busy now and call back later (robocall).

The "you've won a free cruise" scammers aren't calling from NC, they use all spoofed (false) numbers so they can't be located and prosecuted. First, they'll get our personal information, and then fool us into giving them our credit card numbers. Those taken in by this scam will be left waiting at the dock for a ship that never existed, while the scammers are sailing away with what they can get out of our credit cards.

I just got a call on my land Line from 336-409-6514 says it's a wireless caller.. i called the number back from cell phone and blcoked my number and it sent me to VM and told me tge VM was full so .. I goggled the area code and then the number and and I ended up here .. I believe the phone company is selling our numbers too bc I get random calls all the time land line and cell all the time ... I would also like to mention to those who have paperless billing also keep a check on your bill on line and all ur detail charges I was being billed for months by a third party company for 5.00 $ a month for almost a year ... Never really paid it any attention bc I just paid my bill on line and went on about my business ... Then I had a raise in my Internet cost and went to looking at my bill online noticed the charges and then went bck and looked at my bill for a year and 8 months of that year I was charged 5.00$ from a third party not long after that I got a letter in mail from phone company there was a law suit bc the company allowed ur and now I am having to go through a hassle to be reimbursed my money ... Just something to look in to

cell phone number on the "Do Not Call" list. What good is that doing if these people are allowed to call
anyway?

Just received a call from this number. It was an automated message about a cruise.

unknown number, so I don't answer.  Looked it up and found this number is harassing all the people who blogged about it online.

Since the "Do Not Call Registry" is a complete failure due to lack of enforcement, I have found a way to deal with all of the telemarketers and robo-callers calling my cell phone. First, I NEVER answer a number I do not recognize or is not in my contacts. Second, after they hang up, I look up the number on Google, which usually takes me to a site where I can confirm that it is not a legitimate caller. Third, I pull up the number on my phone and assign it a name--like Telemarketer 1, etc. Fourth, I edit the new name and number and assign a "No Ring" ringtone. So whenever they call, my phone doesn't ring, I'm not bothered, they hang up--usually before the voicemail comes on.

I now have 23 of these pesky telemarketers (also known as IDIOTS) in my contacts?so they can call as much as they want to. I could care less since I am not charged minutes unless it goes to voicemail. As the old saying goes, "There is more than one way to flay a feline."

I don't know anyone from NC so I'm sure this was a robocall that went bad.

I don't know about your phone service but on mine I can go online and use call screening for the really annoying ones that call ten times a day. I can only screen 12 numbers so when I need to screen a new on I go take off an old one that I figure has given up.

This number was on our caller ID several times. Not sure if this is the number that there is nothing but silence then goodbye or if this is the one where there is absolutely nothing. These calls are very annoying.

6/15/2013 @1:40 PM, recd. call, I did not answer. No VM left. So, only thing to do is use Call Blocker on my Android. I will set it to just hang up on this number in the future. No big deal.
Now, on to an idea, why don't you and I write our senators and congress people to write up a bill to spend X amount of dollars to educate the uneducated about the 'Do Not Call' registry, law, etc. Does anyone remember what a 'criss-cross' directory is? Google it. This needs to be pushed into their faces. They can track our calls, why not trace these lawbreakers and just fine 'em. Does anyone have an app to report a call to a government person, from our call logs? I'm done.

I got a call from the number at 12:52 pm Central time. Don't know anyone from there so I was gonna let the machine get it. Just a click when it came time to leave a message. If it hadn't been a cell number I would have been able to find out who it was. Probably BS anyways.

Received an illegal, pre-recorded call at 2:13 p.m. today (June 14) from 336-409-6514. For fun, I pressed "1" to learn more about the totally free cruise that I had been 'chosen' to receive. The first part of the call was a survey. A series of right-leaning questions about Obama care, health, car, homeowners insurance. Ended with a few questions about government and other programs for people who are having mortgage trouble. The survey ended with an offer for two vouchers for a cruise. Robocaller asked us to press one to get in touch with one of their "travel coordinators," who would call back within 24 hours. I hung up because I'd had enough fun for one day.  This strikes me as a scam to get personal information on top of the traditional free cruise scam. We are on our state's do-not-call list.
