A guy with a heavy indian accent called from 1111 and said he was from the international computer management organization and that they had info that my computer had been infected with a virus and that I needed to turn it on and follow his instruction immediately. He was almost frantic and very insistent. I kept asking where he was from and he kept saying, "i already told you maam". He said my microsoft needed to be de bugged and he would help me, I told him I didn't have microsoft and he asked me if I had a mac. I said "you tell me, you're the one who knows my computer has a bug". He hung up.

Similar to a previous post...
Caller identified himself with a name that I could not make out.
Indicated he was from Microsoft and wanted to inform me my
computer was infected. Asked for clarification and he said he
was from Microsoft. He said he could show me my PC was
sending out viruses. I asked him to give me something
to identify it and he insisted he could show me reports on this and
help get rid of it. I told him to give me firm data and he just became
agitated, insisting that he only wanted to help me. He said the
Microsoft IT dept. told him that this was so. I asked him who he
worked for again and he said Microsoft Windows. By this time I
was starting to chuckle a bit and he was getting more insistent.
I told him thank you and hung up. If this was legit, he certainly did
not do a thing to make it seem so.
So yes, beware, it is likely a scam until proven otherwise.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I JUST got a call from this number, the guy I could barely hear him or understand him. He said my computer was infected and he was from 'Microsoft'. I asked how he got my phone number, and he said my computer was sending info to them at Microsoft. I told him "DON"T EVER CALL HERE AGAIN".I hung up on him. I proceeded to report him/ the phone number and what happened to the FBI. (their website has a form to report things like this scam.)

same thing - clearly a scam - he represented Windows - I asked him what that meant - he then said he represented Microsoft - and that a virus was eating up my PC. I asked him how would microsoft know this and he said that the computer was saving information and sending it to microsoft.I hung up on him

A guy, claiming to work with Microsoft, said my computer was "infected with a virus" and that he needed to walk-me through on how to remove it from my computer. Hmm...Luckily, I am somewhat familiar with how a computer operates and the steps necessary to remove a virus or to scan for one, and knew what he was asking me to do, had nothing to do with removing one. **Beware** of this type of call! It wreaks of SCAM!

did not answer; message: odd busy signal that never stopped as most of them do after just a few seconds when other telemarketers hang up without leaving a message. I tried to block it on my timewarner voice zone and TWC came back with "invalid number" --
