No he's right.  I bet that 9 times out of 10 people dont answer and another 9 out of 10 that do say no or simply hang up.  so 1 out of 100 calls placed actually connect. (I'm guessing for the sake of argument) That means little time wasted for the agent, since they dont field a call until the called person presses 1 or whatever.  Most of the time, the only people pressing 1 are going to be at least interested in what is being offered, so that means most of the agent's day is spent making sales pitches to people who have already indicated interest.  And lets say that average call length is 10 minutes so that means an agent's 8 hour day will field about 50 calls. And then lets say they get 1 out of 4 calls to agree to whatever they are pitching, meaning they make 13 sales per day on average.

Now imagine if 1 out of 4 people who would normally not answer or connect through decided to mess with the agent and waste 10 minutes of their time.  that would mean that out of 100 numbers dialed 25 would connect to waste their time and 1 would actually be a interested potential customer. Now the agent only gets to talk to 2 real potential customers per day, and since they only close 1 in 4, that means that they would make only 1 sale every 2 days per agent.

I know my numbers have nothing behind them but my own imagination and guesses, but the math itself is sound. But the point is made nonetheless that if somehow a meaningful percentage of us were to mess with them, it would defenitely affect the economic viability of running such a business or scam.

I have been receiving calls from these 'card services' telemarketers for over a year now. I have been blocking each number they have called with (over 35 at this point). And I have been filing complaints with the FTC Do Not Call Registry and the FCC complaint site, to no avail. I do suggest you all do the same, and do not talk to them or call them back.

But to really get some attention, I created a petition on the White House We The People site. Please go there and sign it, we have to get the word out any way we can:

Your close to the real reason for these calls. These shady companies have more than one purpose in calling over and over. 1) collect money for left wing causes; 2) test the boundaries with what thety can get away with; and possibly a third, test how far citizens can be pushed, and how many complaints before the FCC will step in. This one big experiment toward a police state.

Write our Congress and Senate. We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved.
Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

How it works:
http://onthespotblog.com/on-the-spot-blog-stirs-up-rachel-at-cardholder-services/ ...
http://onthespotblog.com/tag/cardholder-services/

We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved.
Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

These calls are coming from call centers in Costa Rica and India and they are using spoofed (false)
numbers, which in itself is illegal. They do cold calling for or sell the leads to numerous companies in
this country and they know that what they are doing is illegal. Tomorrow this same number may be selling Cruises, Timeshares or Security Systems but if you follow the money it usually ends up in the hands of an American LLC. Keep complaining to the FTC and FCC, and start bugging our politicians to pass laws to make it punishable in criminal court instead of handing out fines that they don't pay. Another course of action is to contact phone companies to find out why they won't block spoofed numbers. With today's technology that should be an easy thing to do, unless they are somehow profiting from the use of their systems.

Robocalls are illegal unless you have given them prior permission in writing (not worded into some small
print contract from a 3rd party) and are absolutely illegal to a cell phone.  The Telephone Consumer
Protection Act permits individuals who have received certain unlawful telemarketing, such as junk faxes
or telemarketing calls, to sue the violator in state courts where they may be awarded up to $1500 for
each violation.

People should continually file complaints with their Attorney Generals office and also file with:
http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
If enough people keep complaining then maybe something will get done.

The FTC has already taken action against some of them however they just pay a small fine and are back at the same scam the next day:

I will say it again, we need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these
calls. Follow the money, slap them in jail, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem
solved. Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

Missed a call on my cell phone from this number. My cell phone is on teh Do Not Call registry, for all the good it does.  They have to catch them first, then get enough evidence to proscute them.

I received a call from this number, when they started their pitch I screamed into the phone....
"Who the f**k is this and where was the f**king cop I'd been talking to earlier? I warned you I would start killing hostages if my money and helicopter wasn't here in 5 minutes"
At which point I slammmed a piece of wood down on a table sounding like a gunshot......
The number hung up and has never called back.

Calls like this are a phishing scam. They call me all the time and I don't even own a credit card. Ask how they know you have one. The only one who can actually lower your rate is the company that the card is from. Beware if you give them your info, you could be the next victim of an identiy theft. People like this are scum. Don't even answer the call, once you do, they know that your number is a valid number.

Getting these same calls several times a day now on my pay-per-minute cell, and from all kinds of numbers in various parts of county.  Guess I'll just quit answering any number I don't recognize - only problem is if you don't, these guys keep calling and calling until someone does.
