The current job market, or lack of much of one, benefits legitimate employers but unfortunately benefits scam artists as well. After almost 2 years of unemployment, formerly making $27.00 an hour, I took a postion with a retail company and it started at $12.00 per hour. The starting pay for the same job I have, started at $10.00 to $12.00 an hour then, now starts at $8.75 per hour with no exceptions....supply of job-hunters exceeds demand of employers.

With my current pay I was very excited to get the email until I read it 3 times, felt uneasy about it, Googled the company and there was not an exact match....wrong physical address and the web link of the company supposedly hiring did not match that of the legit co. Even in this economy, when you are willing to give anything a try, if it sounds to be too good to be true...it probably is not true...aka, false/scam

Same ad came to me and I researched co and found, as already noted, the legit co is on E 32nd St, not W 33rd st. Do not waste your time and energy on this one. Any company hiring you, W2 or 1099, would want your Soc Sec Number before doing anything else......SCAM

I just got that exact same letter from Sharon at MediaPost, I too recently replied to a job on Craigslist, "Administrative & General Office Assistant (St Louis, MO)", their ad was very vage. I'm tired of sending "MY Personal Info & Resume" if the company won't give it's own name! So I gave a vage background, said I'm qualified, I'll get the job done and I'd like to learn more about your "small, fast paced, growing company", email me if you'd like an interview.

I'd like to stop this scam if it is something they are phishing for on craigslist.

This was the job listing and description on Craigslist:

"Administrative & General Office Assistant (St Louis, MO)"
"We are a small, fast paced, growing company looking for a multi talented individual to assist the operations manager with a wide range of general duties. Position is full time with core work periods and flexible work periods.
Applicants must have:
-Willingness to assist in all areas of the office and warehouse.
-Strong organizational skills.
-Ability to multi task and work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and effectiveness.
-The ability to learn new computer programs quickly and efficiently.
-Ability to work independently.
Duties Include:
-Inventory Control
-Delivery Scheduling
-Warehouse/Packing Scheduling
-Communication with sales reps, customers, and staff"

This wasn't a "work from home listing" I was hoping this was a legit fulltime job in St Louis!

Is this Anything like the job offer anyone else replied to on Craigslist?

If it is, maybe someone could contact Craigslist about getting this scam taken down or I'll have to stop wasting my time on craigslist.

Thanks for posting all this info about the email, saved me the time!

Here's a tip - no one is going to pay you $250 to sit on your butt at home and talk on the phone for ten minutes. If people had a shred of common sense, maybe these scams wouldn't be so abundant online.

Just received this exact email but with different dates. At first I got real excited and thought to myself this is to good to be true. Before I started on her request I decided to do some research first and then I came across this......This is truely a disappointment. I'm a single mom looking for work and its sad that people run scams and give people false hope. It's hard to survive out here with no job. It's like you see a light at the end of the tunnel and then all of a sudden its dark again. lol. People like her need to be stopped. On a good note. Good luck with your search. God Bless!

Just got the EXACT message myself. Craig's List is what we've all got in common, I guess. Sounds like "Sharon" is hiring in San Antonio too!

Thanks everyone for saving me the time and frustration by all these comments. Instead of doing ANYTHING, I just Googled Sharon MediaPost and I'm done.

OMG!  Been trying to get online job for 6 months!  Type 70 wpm and have 20 years admin. experience.  Love to write but have no degree!  Writing an inspirational book and book of poetry.

I received exactly the same a few days ago!  This stuff really messes up my computer when I respond!  I miss the old fashioned way of getting a job!  (Knew who you were dealing with!)  Now you don't even know if legit companies read or receive your application! Legit jobs don't always actually have openings when they say!  Plus, even if they do accept your downloaded Resume they require you to re-submit on THEIR application!  WHAT A PAIN!

I received the exact same reply today - I even started working on the assignments.  I figured it was to good to be true, but thought I would try to see what happened.  I figured if I received a check, I would call the bank to see if it was good before I tried to cash it.  I guess it was to good to be true.  Probably won't do the send assignment.  I don't think there is a real work from home unless you work for a company who lets you work at home.  I am still going to turn this in to see what happens.

I got the information below by going to the Media Post web site, looking for the name Sharon Butler.  This is the response from their web site - seems that it is a SCAM.
-teddyd
MediaPost has been receiving queries from people saying they?ve been contacted by someone using the name Sharon Butler and claiming to be an employee of MediaPost, and making various offers and requesting potentially confidential information. No one by that name is affiliated with MediaPost, and the email she is using, Sharon@mediapostpublication.com (without an S) appears to be associated with a domain that several watchdog sites indicate may be a fake ?scam? site. Butler did not return a call placed by MediaPost?s editors.

Did the E-mail read this way? (below) I am also out of work for a long period of time. Exactly what is the purpose of the scam? I apply to 'work at home positions' all the time, trying to find a legit one without any upfront costs. I seriously thought for a moment this one was legit and became excited until I came across this website while doing the research. It's just one disappointment after another. I don't understand how these ppl sleep at night. :-( ..... so annoying!
