$120 USD to "fix" my computer (this went up to $300) which was reporting to MS that I was experiencing crashes.
I am experiencing crashes but when I told they guy who called me that I beleived they were crooks
and con artists he told me to go to hell and that he had 'rigged' my computers (desktop & laptop) so I cna never use them again!!!

I received a call - it came up as "unknown" on my display.  The guy sounded like he was from a call center, claiming he was from "Windows Care", not Microsoft.  He stated that he received error and warning messages from my computer and that it has infected files.  When questioned, he said he wanted to give me information so that I could fix my files myself.  He gave me a number I could call back at:  347-332-1135.  He said his ID was:  AJ149.  I gave him no information, just asked for the number to call back on.

You really need to make sure your anti virus program is turned on. And run it deep scan. The people who told you that microsoft/windows does not call where right  This is a scam.  There is no way  anyone gets error messages from your computer like this like they claimed.  You need to change any and all passwords to your accounts and change anything you may have kept on your computer like banking info etc.

The call was obviously from India.  The first person was rather rude and put a "supervisor" on when I kept asking questions. I asked a few questions of the "supervisor" and he discontinued the call.  They asked me to hit the windows button and an "R" at the same time and that showed 1400+ error messages that they supposedly were getting from my computer.  They stated they were calling from "windows Care". I have been told that Microsoft will never call unless you call them.  I asked if they were going to try and take over my computer and they said why would they when I already had control over it.  So far everything on my computer is woring without a problem, but I called the IT person who helps me and he said to give him a call tomorrow if my computer is slow or there seems to be new programs on it.  He didn't sound worried.  I AM!!!!!!  I usually don't fall for these things!

I also got a call and told me my files were corrupt. I spoke to an Indian guy then to someone named Mark Board. Said it would cost me a $100 to fix my problem. I said later and hung up on him. Kind of figured that they were the hackers.

So he also doesn't know the difference between Brooklyn and The Bronx. The call shows up on my records as The Bronx, but it may have been spoofed and coming from offshore.
Be careful with this caller. My neighbor got a similar call. He asked for a received a working call back #. The scammer also promised to call back because my friend said he was too busy to take the call. The scammer promised to call back, which he did do the next day precisely on time when he said he would. The scammer was very courteous and prompt which makes this scam all the more believable and dangerous for those who are less computer literate.
For those who are not technically savvy. The is no such thing as Windows Care. Microsoft, the manufacturer of Windows will never call you because your PC may have a virus. It's not their problem.

Caller sounded like an Indian male.  Said he was calling from Brooklyn.  I should have asked him what neighborhood and what subway stop he used.  Asked me to press some button on the lower left of my screen.  I questioned him about it for a while, couldn't find the button (so I said).  He asked me what kind of operating system I had.  "What's an operating system?  I don't know that computer stuff."  After five minutes of teasing him I said, "Oh, I have an Apple."  He said bad words to me describing an impossible physical act and hung up.  Fun fun fun.

I have been receiving quite a few calls from them.   I tell the, that I will boot up my computer and it will take a few minutes, then just put the phone down with the speaker on.  After 5 minutes or so I hear talking in the background saying I have another one, she is turning her computer on.   After 1/2 hour they disconnected and called back, I asked why they hung up as I was turning my computer on, I said it is almost there and I will be right back on the line, this time they stayed on he line for 45 minutes.   They called back and used very vulgar language to me, this time I hung up on them.   If anything, I wasted their time.

This person called named Jack Pierson he spoke broken English (possibly from India) saying he is from Windows Care and that they received many error messages from my computer. Had me look into the history of all the error and warning messages then wanted to charge to clear the list $80.00 to $190.00 depending upon the number of messages they had to repair. I told him I was not prepared to pay he then asked how much I could afford. I Spoke to an IT professional that works for the county and was advised it was most likely a Phising scam. just beware!!

Someone named "Marken" called my home and my wife answered. He told my wife that he was from "Windows" and our computer was infected.  My wife took his number (347-332-1135) and told me to call them back.  The first time I called, no one picked up. Odd. No voicemail or answering service. I called a little later, a man with a thick Indian accent answered.  He told me that my computer was infected and he took me to event viewer which of course showed a bunch of warnings.  He wanted to take control of my computer and told me the charge to fix this would be about $200.00.  I asked him how he got this information, and he told me that every time I log onto my computer, it connected to Microsoft which identified this problem.

Of course I was suspicious.  I told him that I have an IT person (which I do) who I want to speak to first.  He seemed anxious to get this done but I said I would call him back another time.

Its a scam.

I knew this was a SCAM, SCAM, SCAM -- so I played along, I asked what is the IP address you have (of course they didn't have), then I asked, then how do you know I have a problem with my computer "sending out signals"', then  I asked "what company are you from" and he said windows.  I told him Windows isn't a company, and asked "do you think I'm an idiot.", and he hung up.  Only wish I had more time to waste more of his time (like making believe I was actually going to give access to my pc).

I received a call from "Jack Pearson" at 347-332-1135, telling me that they received info that my computer was heavily infected. He asked me to hold down the windows button and then type in eventevwr, which I did to get the list of errors and warnings. Then, he said he'd put me on with someone else so they could fix the problem and that there would be a one-time fee between $80-160. What I found suspicious was that many of the dates on the errors go back before we bought our computer. When I told him this, he said that the hackers know how to put in a false date to throw me off. I told him to give me his name, number and company name. He said he was from Windows Care. I told him I'd discuss it with my husband and call him back.  I won't be calling.
