I received a call from this number. Immediately someone picked up and answered "IRS" which is not how the real IRS would answer the phone. The person that I spoke with said that his name was Jeff Miller (Clearly he had a heavy Indian Accent) He told me that there was a suit against me and that I sent money to a country outside of the US; and when I send money to this country it is a law that I pay it back or else I am going to jail. He gave me an EIN # of 26-7891521and said that was the one associated with his company. Also he told me that if I did not pay to have a nice life in my native country if I choose to run away and not pay. FYI I was born in America and so were my parents and grandparents. One more thing he kept telling me that I live D.C. in which I live in Georgia. Once I asked for his supervisor and a number for his supervisor he hung up on me

I just received a call from this number but let it to go voicemail because I didn't recognize the number. The person, claiming to be a "Nick Brown" who works for some unintelligible part of the "IRS", who has a thick Indian accent (SUPER hard to understand), said the message was for a "Thomas Sponik" or something close to that (never heard of the guy) and was asking him to "leave your work aside immediately and dial the number 347-338-6022. Now if you fail to return my call or if I don't hear back from your attorney the only thing I can do is wish you a happy life with your (can't make out what he said) country" and something about someone from the local law enforcement will be soon at my doorstep.

What a load of junk. I wish people like this could be put in jail

A man with heavy India accent called saying he is calling from IRS and something like warranty deed of mine is under investigation, and he want me to get a pen to write down a phone and investigator's name. I asked what's his name he said his name is: Joy Davis, then I ask why you sounds like man but having a girls voice. He then ask if I am at such such address (it seems he does have my correct address), and he said a name and asked if that's my wife's name. I did not respond and hang up, then he called again. I told him I knew he is a scammer and call is being recorded, then he said police do not touch us.
He asked me how I know he is calling from India and if in US there is awareness of scams... etc. I hang up on him again.

Received several messages on machine over the weekend from man with thick Indian accent, telling me when I received this message to put all my work aside and return his call immediately.   In addition to researching the number via the internet also spoke with local FBI office and Texas Attorney General office.  They (local FBI & AG) are aware of the scam, ensured that it was a scam and told that other than ignoring the calls there is not much that can be done if the FTC is not able to protect the number being called that is placed on the Nation al Do Not Call Registry.  I also spoke to the Texas Attorney General's office.  My wife (non immigrant) was worried as they were calling me (dual citizenship).  Rest assured, nobody will show up at your door, or be deported etc, etc...

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.
