Just got called by these guys - I used to be engaged to a hacker/computer programmer, so thank god I'm no dummy with computers and called them out on their BS. Tried to call them back to have fun but the dude got spooked and hung up, I guess my eagerness scared him off. Tried to say he was related to google! It's really f*cked that these people prey on the computer illiterate - some people are really dumb. I remember once working retail we had a difficult customer, who left the store and then called pretending to be the better business bureau saying they had a complaint - my coworker actually believed him and started blathering on and I had to take the phone & confront the guy before explaining to my coworker that the BBB doesn't register complaints in 3 minutes and the call the random retail store right away.

Anyway, if anyone can post links to report these a**holes (and if we can bomb their website/facebook/etc http://www.teckfreaks.net/) & maybe I can see if I can contact my ex about him and his buddies getting together to do a DOS on their site.

Some BS company trying to squeeze people using scare tactics.
But the guy had the guts to tell me he is Google's tech support subcontractor called TechFreaks and Google informed him of a virus in my machine! I asked him how he got my phone number. The guy says my internet ISP gave him the number and again has the guts to pull out a name from his a$$ - Verizon!!!

Hung up!

Will report to Google!

Have gotten the call twice now. Same "Allen" guy. I would encourage you to not waste your time speaking to him. Do NOT give him any information, and definitely don't install any of his software on your machine. Absolutely no credible company would be using such tactics.

For your reference, the prefetch folder is a system folder which stores information to run a program upon startup. For example, if you want skype to automatically run every time you start your computer there is a log in that folder to tell the OS to do it. Definitely not a place you want to be diggin around in.

Just use AVG or windows firewall. And please take a minute to report these guys to proper authorities.

I just received a call from Teckfreaks which I feel was a scam.  English was defintely not the callers first language.  He wanted me to go to my computer and enter certain information, ect and I refused and hung up.  He called back and said we had been disconnected and I told him I had hung up.  He provided me with a phone # 888-756-1516, but I have not called it.  I'm sure this is a scam as he was not able to answer all my questions.

I too had my "buddy" (the very Indian) Andy Williams call me from TeckFreaks.net  I had bit of fun with him, listening to his pitch, challenging him on the prefetch files, played along while he wanted me to install the ammyy.com remote desktop client so he could take over, then I started asking questions about which virus, who's my ISP, I have 5 computers so which one, what's the IP address etc.  We ended the call with me promising to call him back at 888.756.1516.

I received a call from Teckfreaks saying I had a virus.
The return number they gave me was 888-756-1516.    The caller's name was David.

Definitely sounds fishy and bogus and unprofessional.  I got the call just now.  The number ID says: 114692869841.  Saying they (Claiming TechFreak?) found out I have a virus and to head to my computer.  In the middle of their canned sales pitch I interrupted and I asked exactly how did they find that out and they can't give me a straight answer.  So I thanked them for the notice and that I'll have my IT friend get on it right away.   They gave up.   If they ever call me again, I'll keep them on the line and make them look stupid for trying this garbage.  I hate being bothered by scammers.

And for anyone here who is trying to defend them, don't waste your breath.  If they were a legitimate and such a good "Business", they would not try such an intrusive, immature scare tactic.  I think their target victims are poor non tech savvy elderly people.  What a disgrace.

It is always good when only experts deal with your computer. There is no hassle or problems afterwards. Your queries are also satisfied. they brings in experts with the entire necessary inventory. They will not ask for any damn software or driver from you. They take end to end responsibility.

Business ethics and principles of a company are its fundamentals. has got very strong fundamentals. They mean what they say. Their time lines are very strict and quality is also extra ordinary. This company can be totally banked upon for computer maintenance needs. They have the required knowledge and experience. They also have good infrastructure.i took their service

I am Confused whom to believe?

One company charged money from my friend and they did not gave any kind of service.

And one of my other friends purchased warranty with a different company and he is happy with the level of support they provided.

So, its not sure that, everyone in the marked is doing scam and there are good and bad people both; depends upon your luck where you land up.

The caller instructed me to select run, and type "prefetch" - I this populated a list of .pf files.  Many of the names of these files were associated with valid programs for my PC.  I told him they didn't look malicious, and I wasn't suspicious of them.  He told me to try to open one of them by double clicking on them.  I did, but Windows didn't know what program to use to open them.  He used THAT as a reason that they were malicious.  I told him that those files aren't probably meant to be opened that that anyway; they are like little reference files that those programs use.  He said, "Okay, fine, maam," and he hung up on me.  They probably wanted me to buy something that could sweep those out of my PC or something.

I too was called upon from the same caller about 7 times (so far).  What's really strange is that I HAVE been having problems with my computer; so I started to believe that this has some validity to it.  However, I kept telling the guy that I am not near my PC, so we cannot do what he wants me to do at my PC.  Most of the time, he calls, says his name is Allen, but calls from 000-000-0000.  Only once did he call with this number I am posting about.  He has given me a number to call him back, but I haven't bothered to try it.  It's funny that he cannot even correctly pronounce the work "viruses" because he says "wiwusses" and I just laugh and tell him there are no wiwusses on my PC.  I told him to call me back today in four hours.  I am just gonna go along with his call and tell him I am doing what he wants me to do. I'll try to be sure to come back and post more info about this after that.

Yes this is definitely a bogus and fraud.  They keep on calling me for 3 times with restricted number somehow i was escaped as i was driving then they call me using this 347-348-0788 number and started giving me all sort of information that your computer is affected with virus and we get your information from international routing system and blah blah blah....

First thing come to my mind is who you are?  - They were unable to answer that question
Second thing why the hack they want to help me, even if there are virus on my PC?
Third and very important, How can i trust you with information you are calling me?

They even don't know my name, i believe they are blindly trying random numbers to catch some computer novice and make them fool by scaring with virus and all sorts of story they have.

Although this number is showing of NYC i can make out from voice that they are using digital phone and calling outside usa, probably india (from way they are talking)

This is definitely a scam.  When I asked what the name of the virus was he started telling me that here are lots that could be on my PC.  Then I let him know I'd been in IT a long time and knew about viruses and he hung up.

Be careful.

WARNING: I just got a scam call from 347-348-0788 informing me my computer was infected with malicious code, and that if I went in front my computer he could show me what he was talking about (presumably through some sort of remote access). I asked him to provide my IP address to prove it was coming fro my computer, and he said he didn't have that information. Just a reminder to be alert for people trying to take advantage of you!
