I have been getting these calls off and on for months now. They will call several times a day, leave messages and everything saying I have a law suite against my home address, name and social security number. I finally talked to them today and told them they are trying to scam me, I am not stupid, I would get something in the mail or something handed to me in person and I am calling the police and reporting this to them and the guy said that's not how we do this, and tried to argue with me and I hung up on him.

Same experience here. Someone named "John Smith" left me a message on my cellphone today. I could barely understand him, very bad and heavy English. Could not understand the name of the company he said he is with. Told me that a report was filed against me and I have to get back with him as soon as possible or they will have my bank account closed and file a lawsuit against me. He stated my full name. Applied for a couple of pay day loans one month ago and I think one of these was a fake and where they got all my info from. it's dangerous and risky and lesson learned. WIll definitely watch my bank account and credit card accounts. Who knows what they are capable of. The bad thing is that you cannot do anything against them!

I've been recv these phone calls @ all hours of the day. I finally called back & told them I wanted their business lic # because I was reporting them to the Attorney General. The man had a heavy accent and all I could make out was that I was being sued. After I told him that I had googled their # & going to file  a complaint against them.. They hung up! I called back a total of 5x. The last call.. A man that spoke PERFECT English told me not to report the phone # & he would send me $1500. I told him to shove it up his a@@.... I'm contacting the Attorney Gen.

Kevin Johnson from American Legal Proccessing Division calling in a thick Middle Eastern accent and very difficult to understand keeps leaving voicemail messages on my cell phone and today started calling my work number! Says there is a lawsuit filed because I've committed financial fraud and my case is being transferred to the court house. He also says my address, bank account and job are under investigation. How crazy is that? I can't believe that people fall for this stuff and give them money! It is interesting that each time he calls, he says it's my last chance and this has been going on for over a month. The calls stopped for 2 weeks but started again! I guess I need to call and threaten him back to get him to leave me alone. Thanks to all for the advice!

I received a call just like this earlier today; a foreign speaking guy that I could hardly understand what he was talking about.  He mention my full name, address and the last 4 number of social security number.  He said if I didnt call that it would be bad and something would be file on my behalf. I called the number back and got nothing but a recording.

This number is one of the many numbers of the same voice. This man does not give up. I called 911 for a deputy to be dispatch so they could do a harassment report for me. This man know my social security number, he knows where I work and he knows my cellphone number. This man probably has over 20 different numbers that he harass people from. A few are as follows: 3478759600 and 3474338916. He tries to disguise his voice when he call you from each number but I picked up on it fast. I really wish someone would put a stop to this harassment. I will not be satisfied until this man is behind bars in jail for a long time. Until then I'm going to copy and paste this message on every page I can find to post it.

Same here. He keeps calling my job and asking for me and then getting very aggressive and demanding to get a cell phone number from my co workers for me or try to have them call me while he is still on the line. I'm not sure why he continues to call my work when he has been told several times even from my manager not to call there again.

I just received a call on my private line at work from 347.433.8916.  He stated he was Officer Branden Taylor of American Legal Processing Division, and that if I worked with him, he might be able to help me.  I told him that I was very aware of the Federal Trade Commision Laws and that I had filed a complaint with them.

He identified himself as an Officer of the Law Department but no name???  Then went into same spiel as above posts mention.  This is the fifth differnet phone call.  All calls come around the same time of day 3:30-4pm EST.  I keep reporting the numbers and they keep changing their story and call number.

Keep getting calls from some f****ng Indian and Arabian folks claiming I owe a payday loan. I'm f****ng rich and never took out a loan. They are harassing my fiance and needs to be stopped. How do these people get access to so much info? They are threatening jail time and stuff like that. I doubt this is going to work but I'm trying everything to shut these folks down. Imagine how they are getting over on folks.

Phoned me 5 times today, tried telling me that a lawsuit was filed against me by immigration, after telling him I was not an immigrant and didn't know any so not to call me...he set someone else on me who spoke a little clearer language...he said I took out a loan and did not pay him back....I then called
the number back (347-433-8916) and asked what the name of there company was they told me they were a legal department, investigating Bank Fraud...I then asked his name he hung up on me. I called
my attorney who adviced me to contact my banking institution, local law enforcement, and report on website www.IC3.gov.  I will be sure and do all these things, by attorney also phoned them and they
told her the same thing...look at your hand, hold up your middle finger...and shove it up your a****h***.
Where is our government when they should be stepping in on things like this...to busy fighting over the budget....this is a scam..verify no information...this is a New York telephone number...what's up New York law enforcement find them and shut them down.....

Yep...same experience here. Very hard to understand that guy who said his name is John Smith. He left a message on my cellphone. He said something about a complaint was filed against me and if I don't get back with him as soon as possible I won't be able to access my bank account and have legal procedures or whatever coming against me. Could barely understand him. I submitted a couple of payday loan applications but did not accept any of them since I realized they are just scams. I guess that is how that guy was able to get all my info i.e. full name, SS# etc. Lesson learned - never ever apply for a payday loan online. You never know who gets your info and what they do with it. I will definitely keep a closer eye on my credit card and bank statements. Shame that those people get away with it. Next time he calls I will tell him he needs to take English classes or go back where he came from.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

Notify your banking institutions.
Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements
