I received a call stating that I owe money for a payday loan that I took out in 2006. I know that I paid it back. I told the caller that I will not pay it and that I have contacted my states attorney generals office.  Now he is going to send his investigator after me. I just want it to stop. I fell for it before and I wont do it again.

I just got a call from a man with a real thick Indian accent at my place of employment.  He says that he is from ACS.  Since I have received these types of calls a few months ago, I am to the wiser now.  I didn't let him finish and I told him that I knew this was a scam and hung up on him.  He immediately asked me who told me that his call was a scam and I asked him if he wanted the number to my local Sherriff's Dept and he hung up.  Maybe now he got the message.

Just received a call from these guys.  First rep had me verify my name and then he literally handed the phone to another man who said he was Richard White.  They are claiming that I took out a loan in Jan of 2010 for $300 and now owe $402 due to late fees.  Obviously not true, so I told them I would have my attorney contact them...he actually asked me for my attorney's number, which I happily gave him.  He then said if attorney doesn't call him in the next 15 minutes that he is going to......and then hung up.  Too funny.  These guys are idiots.  And yes, like everyone else has cited above, they have a very heavy accent...sounds Indian to me.

These guys are scammers...DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY, INFO, OR ANY OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME!

I completely agree. I have paid the pay day loan (which I will NEVER EVER EVER do again) and they STILL CALL ME at work...at home....on my cell...SOMETHING needs to be done. It's just not fair. I have been taken for THOUSANDS and only recovered 1/2 of my money back since they made me get a pre-paid credit card. I am SICK to my STOMACH and wish SOMEONE would do SOMETHING about this.

These people have been calling and harrasing me at home, work and my cell phone. They call, hang up and keep calling at least 6-8 times in a row. When I asked them what company I owed money to the man started hollering at me til I just hung up the phone one him. They give different names every time they call (John Hudson, Alex White, Richard ???). They don't understand me as I don't understand them.  They read my bank info to me over the phone claiming to verify my banking info and saying they were taking $197.50 out of my account in three payments. Well, they've been taking money out since December. I've had to close my checking account and debit card, really inconvenient.  Luckily I am able to get the money back in a few days. However, I really wish there was something that could be done to stop them.  This is too much stress.

The same thing has happened to me. They called me several times and finally left me a message. In the message he said his name was Joseph Anderson and he was from the legal department of ACS trying to collect a debt from a payday loan. His phone number was 1-347-457-3021. So I called him back and told him that he was full of crap and that I never got that loan. He said they have an affidavit against me for it. So once again I told him he was full of crap. He then told me someone what going to be there at my job in the morning, pick me up, and escort me to the courthouse. Which was crap because they can't do that. He then started cursing at me and hung up. So I called them back and told them that if they have an affidavit against me that I was going to sue them. I asked his name, not thinking that he told it to me in the voicemail, and he said it was Andy Brown. He started cursing more and told me that he has my drivers license number and my social security number and to wait and see what he does with them, then he hung up again. So I called back a few more times just so I could harass them like they had harassed me. The last time I called they didn't answer and it said the person at extension 10012 was not available. So feel free to call and harass the mess out of them anytime. Just be careful and never give them any kind of information if they decide to call you.

He used the name Joseph Anderson.  I've head from them before from a different phone number, but with the same name.
It is a scam.  Never agree to send money or give your account information over the phone, no matter how threatening they are.  By law they must send you legitimate paperwork by mail or courier.
Check everything every closely if they were to actually send you something.
These people won't mail you anything because it is a scam.  Hang up on them.
Report harassment to your local phone company.  They already have measures and procedures in place for this type of complaint.

This is the same scam that has called me from several different numbers, most originating in New York, but sometimes originating in Florida or California.  They claim to be American Legal Services, they are all middle eastern Indian, and they have your info, including SSN, address, phone numbers, and bank account info.  They claim that you are in default of a payday loan, but can't tell you which one.  They say the company is an umbrella for over 200 payday sites and they cannot give you an exact one.  They tell you that you must pay them by credit card today or they will have agents take you in handcuffs tomorrow morning to the courthouse.  This one left the message that they were trying to help and that there was no reason to be alarmed.  They would take your info and then transfer you to the courthouse where you can make your payment.

Since they were calling for my daughter-in-law this time, I called them back and told them that the person they were calling was not at my address or phone number, and to stop calling people because this is a scam.  The last time they called, I told them I was reporting them to all appropriate agencies, and the man started cursing at me and then hung up.  This is NOT a legitimate company, and even if you have a payday loan, don't give them any information at all.  Don't even confirm what they have.  Tell them to send you documentation of the debt to the address they have on file for you and you will present it to your attorney.  They will ask for his/her name, but refuse to give it.  Tell them the attorney will contact them directly.  They will try to confirm your address and they will tell you that they cannot send documentation until you have made payment arrangements with them.  That is illegal and they cannot do that.  By the way, they are routing these numbers from other companies through a number here in the US, so there is no real way to get to them.

Again, do not give them any info or money.  Don't authorize any payments, and try to record the conversation in case you need it when you report them to the authorities.  Sometimes, they will even use a legitimate company's name and location to make it more realistic when you search it out.  However, remember that they cannot just show up with handcuffs to take you to court, and they cannot ask you to pay a debt that they cannot provide documentation for.  Also, they would have had to file with the courts, which means you would get a registered letter from the courts and a summons to appear delivered personally by the police.
