this number appears on my cell phone over and over again

The number was new to me but the fake testimonial spam style was all too familiar. A spam campaign featuring two other phone numbers ran about a year on Who Called Us, beginning to my recall in Q4 2009. Those numbers are 307-223-0458 and 877-646-7319. The fake comments were particularly heavy in late 2010, most following a one-liner pattern of recommending a number for relief from the calls, never once explaining who was at the other end or for what purpose. Frequently they were posted to multiple threads in batches, under different first names. Often they were the first to appear in a thread, idiotically providing a remedy before any complaints could appear.

What's described amounts to a complex laundering scheme for junky calls, often using ludicrously obvious spoof numbers. All of this has been part of an even more convoluted scheme involving security system installers and the Monitronics firm. (... a story I won't unroll here but one I've documented probably more than anyone on WCU)

The 888 subject number of this thread appears connected to a variety of scams, but may be related, if distantly, to the above affiliate marketing scheme. As time has passed, I see some junky number threads gathering complaints about fake auto warranty sales, credit reprice scammers, and other cubicle-based swindles. Some phone farms like to rotate their scams like crops, I think.

All three of these numbers for people to allegedly "stop the calls" appear in this one thread. The first two are helpfully hawked in a single comment from "Kelly" in September 2009.

"Susan" reporting on 8604700041 claims that some CSR is waiting behind those numbers to take your no-call requests. Agreeing with Julie above, a handful of other commentors in different threads strongly suggest these "compliance" numbers are actually for harvesting. I don't see another more plausible purpose either. I would try one out for research if I had a phone number I considered disposable.

I got the call from 347-502- 2593, after I blocked their 347-502-2524 and 347-502-2532 calls. Now let's see
what number they going to use.  That's what I like about Cable vision Voice. I can block many un-wanted calls.

They've called everyday even on Sunday. They've called from different numbers. Here are the #: 347-502-2593 and 973-273-7847.  I put both numbers in the Do-Not-Call registry. That crap don't work cause they keep calling. After ignoring the calls, I got fed up and picked up call. A recording is heard offering lower bills on con ed. I pressed 0 to speak to person.  Her name was Mandy. I said to her before she can speak not to call my number again to take me off the list. There was no response after I finished my demands. Someone please find out their address, let's form a lynch mob and double tap these harassing b*****ds.

347-502-2593 "BILL ADJUST"  has called my house several times a day for the past week..
I called this number from my caller ID, and was told to press 1 if I wanted to be removed from their call list.
Let's see if this is legit, or only a way of their being sure my phone is working...

The 3rd phone call  from these scums today. I hope each and everyone of them who does this is forced to have it done to them 24/7 on their home phones. I feel like a prisoner in my own house.I never pick up the phone either.

Robo calls are the most salacious and annoying calls that have been invented by technology.  They call and call and call and never stop!! They are cowardly in that no one ever speaks when you call back, its either a busy or a recording. "press 1 if you want to be on our do not call list" yeah really - it never works. So here's what to do, make a list of all the robo calls you get and then buy the machine to attach to your answering machine that blocks every blasted one of them.  Peace at last!!! Hallelulah!!!

I get at least 3 calls a day from this or numbers close to it. I decided today that I will pick the phone and set it down without saying a word until they hang up. I'm guess I'm trying to be as annoyomg as they are.

Call ID says "Bill Assist". They call at all hours. Voice prompts don't work, curiously so it is impossible to get a person; nor do they get any business, whatever it is they want, so one wonders what their purpose is.
When you call the number back, you are given the option to Opt Out, but they continue to call.

Why is there no way to stop this?

I answered their call today - after ignoring their previous calls didn't stop them.  When I did, I was greeted by a computer that asked me to grab my Con-Ed bill and hold for a representative.  After a minute or so, a rep came on the line.  She provided her name and rep # and asked me to read the acct # from my bill.  I responded by nicely asking her to remove my # from their calling list.  She said she would do that and it will take 24 to 36 hours for it to become effective.  In the interim, she asked me to disregard any calls that I may receive.

I'll add an entry to this site after 36 hours have passed to let you all know whether my request was honored.

I got a call today! I was worried they forgot about me!  Keep calling I love it!  Even if I would never deal with you...At least I know my phone is working.  Tell your friends to call also...it makes me feel wanted!

Who are these idiots. They call my fax number!  How do I find a way to stop these robocalls.  The Hagler in NYTimes on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 voiced my frustration with these stupid calls!

Keeps calling

I too get these phone calls from this number twice or thrice a day.  Again, pressing one doesn't work.  The phone is not a toy--there must be something that can be done.  I'm involved with various emergency services, so shutting off the ringer is not an option.

Multiple daily calls recently. Same experience with the "press 1 to be removed".  Calls continue.

Print out and report to FCC. You might even be able to sue up to $500.00 if they are violating the do not call registry.

Received a call at 2:20 pm  2/22/13.     the caller ID came us as Bill Assist.   No message.....  just a hang up

I have received ten calls from the three numbers, 347-502-2527, -2524 and -2593 in the last ten days.  I am on the do not call list.  I have received over 20 different calls from other numbers in the same period.  The DNC list doesn't have any teeth!

Like everyone else posting here, this number and similar numbers call me at least twice a day.  HOW CAN I STOP IT??

They call twice a day offering to lower my Con Edison bill.  The fact that I do not pay for my electricity, it is part of my rent for my apartment.  I have told them this and they continue to call.  I am on the do-not-call list.
