Also got the call so I reported them to Godaddy...

send all complaints to "abuse@godaddy.com" - they have a department dedicated to combating these types of scams & harassments - ask your service providers for help in holding them accountable.

Here's the letter I wrote:

To whom it may concern,

I'm a long term customer of yours and a web developer that recommends / requires your services to all of my clients, in part due to your stellar customer service. I'm writing you today to inform you that the following number (347) 535-3666 calls a couple times a week under false pretense regarding newly registered domains w/ godaddy.

They yell at you if you ask to be removed from the list and say that you'll keep receiving calls for not purchasing domain protection from godaddy.

You ask them who they represent and they say there calling "Because of godaddy" - so clearly it's not their first rodeo.

I'm assuming you have more clout as an organization to shutting down backdoor operations like these. I don't want to get calls weekly regarding my business with you and hope that there is a process in place in order to mitigate these types of dealings other than me having to purchase domain protection for every single purchase I make.

Got a call from this number at 4:55pm CST. Guy found my info through a recently registered domain name purchase I made. I was quite clear that I didn't need their services, but he was real persistent. Did the classic trick of muting my line, and he went on for over 3 minutes. Good stuff!!

These characters are scam hackers (usually Pakistani Indian sounding) saying they are from Microsoft and your computer has been infected and trying to sell you some virus protection for several hundred dollars.  They get a bit irate when you start to question them and do not take advantage of what they are selling.  What they really want from you is personal, confidential information that will actually allow them access to your computer so.....don't fall for the scam or you may become a victim of computer hacking, identity theft etc.

I just got a call from (347) 535-3666 from a man with a heavy MiddleEastern (?) accent. Claiming to help me build a website with my domain that I just registered at GoDaddy. After reading these comments, I am sure he is NOT affiliated with GoDaddy whatsoever.

Microsoft is very aware of these scammers.  They have a warning about this type of scam on their website:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

Not sure if they have a link to report the scams but since the caller is likely from overseas using VOIP and Caller ID spoofing, the only way to get to them is a sting operation.

They call and said that my computer has infected. They claimed they work for microsoft company and I'll be protected if I buy life time automatic warranty for $420. Manually is $340. They did a scanning on my computer and wanted to back up my computer but I didn't let them to.
