This same "phone number" sent text(s) just this morning and offering to send money for HALF the amount of a HOME SALE that is advertised on Craigs List.  Seriously?  WHO has that kind of cash just waiting around to be sent out?   He was NOT interested in any other suggested transaction options!!!   NOTHING about the texts/offer felt okay!!!!  NOTHING!!!   When this phone number of (347) 541-8315 was entered into a Google search, all of this information came up.  THANKS, all of you, for posting these warnings!!!    He simply signed his name as "John from SD".   He was really PUSHING to set up a PayPal account RIGHT AWAY and get the e-mail address sent to him!!!!!   He said, "IT ONLY TAKES FIVE MINUTES!"   No thanks!!!

Here is how the "PayPal Scam" works:

Says they will buy the item and will pay extra to cover charges by his shipping agent.
Says he will PayPal the funds and instruct you to send the extra money via wire transfer or pre-paid card to the agent.
He then sends you a fake PayPal deposit notice email, spoofing the official PayPal notice, that says the money has been put into your account.
You, thinking PayPal has your money, go ahead with the wire/prepaid transfer to the shipping agent, who is really the scammer.
After that, you then find out there was no money transferred to PayPal and are out the money your wired.

Here is how a "Craigslist Scam" or any other "I will send you a check for more than you asked" scam works:

He pays for the item + extra funds to cover his shipping agent costs with a bank draft or cashiers check.
He sends you a check, tells you to cash it and send the extra money to his shipping agent via wire transfer or prepaid card.
You cash/deposit check and wire/prepaid the funds to the agent.
Later, the check bounces as it was counterfeit. The money you sent to the agent, who is really the scammer, is unrecoverable due to it being wire transferred/prepaid card.
You are out money and now run the risk of being arrested for passing a counterfeit check.

I got a text message asking if my house is still for sale that I put on craigslist I replied yes. Then the lots messages started he wanted to know if I had a paypal account that was my first clue this is a scam. If you want to buy a house you would want to look at it first and get it inspected. He must like that im supid he was wrong. Don't let him fool you either.

Just got several texts from this number in response to Craigs list ad for expensive priced RV. Asked me to set up Paypal account. First sign this was a problem was their phrase: "Do you still have this items for sale?" Common mistake for non-US to get plural incorrect. Advised them I notified law enforcement and that they should hear from them shortly." I didn't, but wanted to make them a bit nervous anyway.

He wants to buy Commercial Water Tank from me. He wants my Paypal details so that he can send money today itself. I asked his company's details twice and then he replied its for his uncle & the shipping company will come for pick up. Haven't given any of his details. Any genuine Buyer will always give his details first and come for inspection of product.

So this guy must have multiple emails, but just one number. His proposition seemed fishy to me from the beginning. My husband of course is oblivious to many types of online scams. So to prove it to him, I googled the number that was texting him reguarding our ad on Craigslist. Luckiy, I found this website and proved to him that this guy is a scammer. I'm gonna report him too!

It's a scam.  PayPal, Western Union.
Lucky for me I thought this was a scam from the beginning but I played along.
John Ford with email address of fordjohn442@yahoo.com.  347-541-8315.  The $ for the shipping company needed to be sent to Bethzaida Ramirez in Texas because he was handicapped and couldn't do this himself because of his condition.   I reported him to the Internet crime complaint center (FBI) and national white collar crime center.  Doubt he'll get caught but I at least did what I could to try and get this scumbag.

Same thing happened to me. Same phone number 347-541-8315 - we were selling a boat on craigslist. offered to pay full price, we was in the armed forces and needed the boat for recruits. Wanted us to set up Pay Pal account. He couldn't call because of where he was stationed. After several text msgs the idiot did call - he was of foreign decent hard to understand. Conversation was very confusing because his stories clashed.  Finally I txt him back told him his number, text msgs and phone call were being turned into the proper authorities.
Lesson learned here people - NEVER respond to a text msg you do not know. My ad states NO TEXT MESSAGES Phone calls only! So if they won't call then I don't sell.
Just be aware of scams.... when in doubt DON'T!!!

Same scenario.  Selling a high-end car, and he sends a long text that he will buy it at full price. No need to see it, test drive it, or get the title.  Just send him my bank info.  I'm thinking... NOT!

Thank you for posting this.  We received a test from this number asking to buy our boat with the same deal as above, except they wanted to use PayPal.  We said absolutely not, cash only.  Waiting to hear from my husband if he contacts him again.

i keep getting text messages from this person wanting to buy my stuff i'm selling on craigslist. of course the typical scam, they will send me a check and when it clears some shipping company will come pick up item. i told them cash only and i wasnt dumb enough to fall for this scam (which usually works and it stops) they keep texting with promises of not being a scam and other bs, and that they were a verified member?? so when i questioned them about being a verified member of what? craigslist?? then they stopped.
