Debt Collector
I got a call yesterday from the same man Daniel Johns(jones?) impersonating an officer. Claiming he was with Anderson Law Firm. Saying there were charges filed against me and that if I did not pay they were going to prosecute to fullest extent of law. Funny thing- What officer works with a law firm? that was the first thing that set me off to the scam.... dont trust them... SCAM

I too was called from (347-606-4351) Anderson Law Firm, in reference to a lawsuit. I knew that there aren't any legal matters that I need to be concerned about so I knew that this was another scam of sort. I did apply for online loans and believe this is the only way that they would have gotten my personal info. I'm do believe that they are located someplace in New York and we all need to follow this up by calling they Attorney's Generals Office and report this. Hopefully when they get enough complaints they'll look into the matter. I'm really tired of scammers online or otherwise and everyone should make their complaints known. Bless and have a beautiful life.

Received a call today from Officer Daniel Jones from the Anderson Law Firm. An Indian sounding voice informed me that he was located in New York City and when I inquired as to where that was.....he could not tell me.  He stated he was an officer of the court.  When I asked which court he was an officer of he could not tell me and then I advised him of the harrassment laws he should be aware of being an officer of the court and all.  I again advised him that the person he was looking for longer had this number.  (The number they have been calling on has just recently been assigned to me) He then gave me this number to call and told me to tell them that.   I am not calling the number but I am certainly sick of explaining this over and over and I am sick and tired of the hang ups.  I will notify the police after reading the previous blogs

Prank Call
I received a call at work today from a person telling me that a lawsuit had been filed against me and it was a legal emergency to call 347-606-4351 to find out what the allegations were. Upon calling the number a man answered saying it was Anderson Law Firm. He said his name was Daniel walker and there had been a serious lawsuit filed against me. He gave me a legit case number and everything and said ere were 3 allegations against me. He said that a payday advance had been deposited in my account and never paid back. He said he needed to speak to my attorney. When I told him I didn't have one and that I had never received any loan he asked if I was still at work. When I told him yes he said there would be officers at my work within 45 minutes to get me. After I left work i was so upset, worried, and pissed that I called the number back and asked to speak to him again! I told him that I hadn't received a loan and I was looking at my bank statements for the last 3 months! He then said he would double check with his company and someone would call me back! After seeing how many people he has done this to it infuriates me even more that he has harassed and humiliated this many people and nothing has been done. I guess now I just have to sit back and see if the calls continue.

My boyfriend received a phone call from a man with a Indian accent claiming to be a police officer and told my boyfriend he was going to go to arrest him for an unpaid loan. He claims to be representing Anderson Law Firm. My boyfriend never accepted any loans. Be careful! He is a scammer! He called from phone number: (347) 606-4351. He is calling from New York City. I found this blog while my boyfriend was still on the phone with him. My boyfriend informed him it is a criminal offense to impersonate an officer. Later he asked the gentleman why he was scamming people to which he replied: I don't know" and started to curse profusely and then hung up on my boyfriend. Please everyone be careful who you give your personal information to and don't trust everything you hear.

I got a message from someone claiming to be officer ANDERSON, who said to call him a.s.a.p. at 347-606-4351.The number on caller I.D. listed 202-239-6000. When i called him back he knew my social sec. number, and asked if it was me/mine. It was, but i told him it was not,so he said he had the wrong person. The reason I said it was not mine was because of all the messages i saw on this site.I have since tried to call him back to get more information about him,but he wont answer the phone. I have recently applied for loans online,i believe this is how he got my information. I didnt accept any online loans, because they were not resonable.PLEASE!!! DONT apply for online loans!!! Im 99% positive that is how they got all my personal info.

Got a call on my voice mail at work (my family doesn't even have that number) telling me in a possible Nigerian accent that he is Officer Daniel Johns (Jones?) and to call back at 347-606-4351regarding a legal matter. No case number or who they represent. I have received these calls from a few numbers to my work number before and the bill they say they are collecting are always bills that were paid in full. They will never give me the company name or mailing address. Judging by the posts here, I'm not wasting my time calling them back.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I have been receiving phone calls on my cell phone as well as my work phone from a person giving the name of Daniel Jones with the Anderson Law Firm....the callback # is 347-606-4351.  He claims to have a lawsuit under my name and social security number.  I previously notified my cell phone company and a block was put on the phone number however this morning the call came through on my cell phone as "unknown" and when I got to work there was a message on my desk phone as well.
How can I stop the phone calls? especially to my work number?  I believe this is a call re: a payday loan or debt collector.

i received three calls from....347-606-4351.....threatening "legal action"  if they did not hear from me by the end of the day....saying they had a "file" and a "case" against me.......when i did call them back i asked two questions   1.  who are you?.....Anderson Law Firm...   2. Where are you?(address please)....they hung up...
if you receive these calls  follow the guideline of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
1. collectors CANNOT call repeatedly ...that is harassment and as such is illegal and you can sue them...2.they must identify themselves and give you their address...and who they are collecting for....

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:

?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

This person poses as "Anderson Law Firm".  The number on my caller ID came in at 661/380-3000.  The voice mail said that they were to issue a court summons to me and mentioned my ss# and said to call back at 347/606-4351 (he had an East Indian accent).  I called back and he immediately asked me to confirm my ss#.  When I told him I wouldn't confirm it, he hung up on me.  I called back and it went into voicemail twice.  I left a voicemail on the 3rd try saying that I am reporting him to the police.  I found this site and thought I'd enter it here as well.
