I was originally contacted by a Mr. Roy Stone about a wedding dress I was selling on craigslist, stating he was buying it for his daughter (red flag #1) I gave him my cell thru the craigslist email connection bc he wanted to talk about the dress. But then he emailed me again on if I would accept "a bank certified cashiers check". I called my bank and they advised me not to accept. So I told him I can only do Western union (which I heard isn't safe either) or PayPal. He didn't email back.

Then I get a text message a few days later from 347.699.5194: "still available... Wedding dress - Robin Jillian - $800 (Tampa, FL)". They said there name was Lora and they had a "pickup agent"... Not initially occurring to me I only gave my number to "Roy Stone" it wasn't in my ad, so I knew it had to be him. They also said they had a "pickup agent" which would cancel out any protection for me the seller on Paypal.

Then I got another text from a different number 571-358-9790. Asking about the dress and if I accept Cashiers Checks. I said no and how did you get my cell number...no reply.

I cancelled my Craigslist ads after this.

Just had the same experience on Saturday Feb. 1, starting with text messages about a craigslist item for sale - mine were from a 925 area code in California - followed by the same 4 emails from monadavis57@gmail.com and also the PayPal email saying a password reset had been requested on my account.

In my case the shipping agent information was in NJ.  I gave them nothing except the email address, and my account was not compromised.  I turned over all the emails and the telephone number the texts came from to PayPal so their fraud/security team could investigate and attempt to track down the scammer.

Got the same wedding dress texts as above. The name used was Henry Walker and number was 434-326-5155. I said I know you're a scammer. Do not contact me again. So far they haven't tried again!

First text messages I received was from a person claiming to be Anna Ruben PH#  765-416-3059 from Indiana   asking if my wedding dress "is still available"  person then requested I send more pictures and they would send money via PayPal immediately and arrange the shipping method later, I expl CASH ONLY and LOCAL buyers but they insisted it was safe I called PayPal they explained all types of red flags so the texts stopped and then 2 days later I received another one stating please just send me your PayPal email and I will deposit the funds immediately, I responded and let them know I was fully aware they were a scam and not to waste their time! So the texts stopped.

Second message I received this morning 10/12/13 @612am cst PH# 347-699-5194 asking if dress was "still available" I googled ph# and same as above "Craiglist Scammer" I let them know Local buyers and cash only also told them I was aware they are a scam. Haven't received any more messages as of now. BE AWARE!!!!

6:30 am - Just got a text from this number.  It's 3rd time someone has tried to scam me from my CL add.  I'm so glad I looked up the number - THANKS!!  I wrote back yes - now I'm going to play with them!!!

Just got a text from this number asking if my dress was still available.  This person must of got a lot of celo numbers. .....

Same exact message i got this moring for my wedding dress...

This person texted me at midnight - they asked if my item listed on Craigslist was still available- i said yes - they said: I am just asking about it to make sure its in good condition as i am buying it for my cousin as a surprise and She doesn't know about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? also no shipment involved as i have a pick up agent that will come for it.I'm satisfied with your price ....more so send me your paypal details / paypal email so that i can pay in
This person is trying to hack PayPal accounts!  Make sure to report this number immediately!!!

Got a text at 1:30am about my wedding dress. As soon as I said I only sell locally, no shipping... I got no response back. I loomed up the number, found out it was a scam and text them that they were busted and I was reporting the number. Still no response. Forth time I've had a bogus hit on my Craigslist post.

The email is a fake, not from Paypal.  They don't really want your item, just your money... the so called "shipping company" is the scammer's other persona.

Posted an AC unit on Craigslist. Buyer from Texas wanted to pay via PayPal. Once I gave them my email to transfer funds, I received an email from PayPal confirming my request for a password change. I called immediately, as I had not requested a change. They had no record of my request so knew it was a scam. In the next few minutes I received 4 more emails, all similar:
You have received a PayPal Payment of $1,350 USD from Mona Davis.

We've placed a temporary hold on the funds of this transaction

We wish to inform you that Mona Davis has made her intentions known to PayPal that she will like $350 USD to be sent to the recipient's address below via Western Union Money Transfer and as per New PayPal Payment policy, we have fully debited the total amount (above) from the buyer's account which included the Transport/Delivery Charges ( SHIPPING COMPANY).

In order to complete this transaction and get the funds approved in your account. We advice you go to nearest Western Union Office, and send the $350 USD to the Transport Agent and send us a Scanned Copy/Photograph of your Western Union Transaction Receipt (in .JPG Format).
