I have also received these calls for months, it is so frustrating, especially when they call at my work, I cannot believe that thugs like this can get your most personal information.  I have contacted my local FBI office and submitted a complaint and given them all of the information that I have aquired, yesterday they called me again and I started asking questions like what number he was calling from, since the number was blocked and what address he was at, he asked why I needed all of that info and I told him that I was gathering information to submit to the FBI then he said that a sherriff was going to come and take me to the court on Friday so I said "good, I will be home on Friday so please send him over, which county sheriff will be coming?"  He immediately HUNG UP.

Have received calls from these people on and off for months. Each time they call it is the same person but he has a different name, like kevin smith, john smith, mike jones either way the last name always ends in jones or smith. They can't speak decent english but have American names? what is up with that do they think we are that dumb! Do not take anything they say seriously, don't even try to talk to them because all they do is argue with you to try and get more information. They also call from a couple of different numbers, so PLEASE BEWARE and if possible report them to whoever you have to.The first time they called me they said they were from the federal debt investigative services, to the best of my years and knowledge I have never heard of such a thing in existance. They need to get a real job! And stop trying to scam people!

That settles it for me. "American Legal Services" is among the many established names used by the payday loan thugs. That gibberish about "downloading" cases is also typical language, not to mention indicating a profound ignorance of the American legal system. These clowns make mistakes like that all the time, such as claiming a court date is set when in fact it falls on a weekend or bank holiday.

That's excellent you heard a pit boss correct his phone drone when the wrong script was used. I might add that the greatest damage to a FICO score comes at the time of account default. The dumb score is the least of your worries if you're fighting a real debt case.

I got a call from an man that sounds like he is from India, and he said he was a Lawyer from American Legal Services and then he went on to tell me that a case was being DOWN LOADED to the court HOUSE and that i needed to call him back with in the hour or i will suffer with a law suite.  He starts to tell me to call him back at 347 then pauses and some man in the back ground in again in an India voice says something to him and then he starts again and begins to give me another number 561-705-0140, seriously you don't know your phone number.
Today i got another call from Larry Moses who also sounds like someone from India and says he is calling from American Credit Services and that i need to call him because there will be a case DOWN LOADED to the court house and that my credit score will suffer many points.  He begins to tell me to call him back as 347-709-1643...thats funny the first caller beings to give me a 347 number and this Jack leaves me a number that begins with 347.  I have already been scamed, but at least i got my money back.

In case I am correct in my hunch, which I stress is not confirmed in this thread, this is some of my boilerplate on the fake payday loan collector epidemic:

Their threats are empty and their rude tactics are illegal under federal law, the FDCPA. Do not argue with them, do not comply with their extortionist demands. Show them you know you have rights they are trampling. Challenge their horse puckey threats; they often make rude remarks and hang up. As the bullies like to hassle people at workplaces, advise your employers and coworkers these calls are garbage.

First off, when a debt collector calls, the fake or the real kind, you do not under any circumstances make noises like "How do I pay?" or "I cannot pay today". This is a hair away from admitting liability, which is what they want most, second to any payment wrenched from you. Your actual goal should be demanding a business name, a reliable mailing address, and proof of claim. Make information flow only one way, to you.

This sounds ever more like the fake payday thugs. If you've reviewed the FDCPA like I told you, you know certain things are required of a collector at this stage. You must for instance see a dunning letter promptly after that first call, and the reps cannot refuse to reveal a registered business name. If those things are not forthcoming, this may well be an overseas crook.

Collectors also can't use foul language or make threats of arrest or litigation. These are favorite tactics of the fakies. The louder the barking, the less proof of claim, in general. Again, if you find your caller works for someone stateside, warm up a FDCPA lawsuit. If signs point to a foreign boiler room with a name you can't confirm, absolutely file complaints with the FTC and attorneys general. (Actually I would do that in any case with such potty-mouthed collectors.) The FBI is also taking reports on this category of scammer.

Use of sentence capitals and paragraph breaks would help you much as you seek help in various forums. SLOW DOWN your writing.

The actual legal requirement under FDCPA is for a dunning letter to be sent promptly after first contact to the alleged debtor. This I suspect is one of the fake payday loan thugs so richly documented on this site and elsewhere, so the usual FDCPA defenses won't apply, though awareness of the rules being broken is helpful. Naturally if you find this caller has a US presence, document everything carefully and file suit!

I have been getting phone calls from this number recently.  They say they are officer George Martin from some group and I owe money. i should call to get it resolved.  They have called me on and off for at least a year and a half and call my work.  Really frustrating.  I've old them to f*** off, had my lawyer call them to stop ( which they did for a brief period ) but they still call.  UGH.
