One of an apparent endless string of numbers calling from New York. They don't speak to the answer-machine. I block the number, next day a new number calls, same approximate time of day (8:00-9:00 a.m.). Caller I.D. reads Out of Area. Has been going on for over a year, have been able to stop it for months at a time by blocking the numbers. Curiously, this event began yesterday (Monday, 11-8-11), and I had been in contact with a government office this week. Employees at gov't offices might sell phone numbers. The gov't is the most self-serving, sneaky entity in America, and attracts amoral people to its employ. My phone number is unlisted. I am registered with national "Do Not Call." Another source I suspect is, if you attempt to order "restricted" pharmaceuticals online, these weird calls tend to start up not long afterward, and continue until hell freezes over, or so I have read at nuisance phone call web sites. If you fill out an online form for these pharmaceuticals "just to see what will happen," then click away without completing and forget about it, you have already gone too far, somebody now has some information, and will start calling you. If I ever picked up, I don't know what I would get, but I think it's just recorded voices with bank scams, which can happen to any older person; the older you are, the worse this gets. People who've reached a "certain age" always get wierd calls that are scams, I know this from caring for elderly people at home. On my own weird calls, I never pick up and never will. EVERY place you give your phone number potentially has employees who sell phone numbers and email lists. But ESPECIALLY if they think you are interested in trying to break the law (by ordering, or even looking at, drugs on the internet without a doctor's prescription:).
