Just got a call from "Ann from Political Opinions" (7:20 pm, July 2/12). I didn't bother tracing the number  as our local telephone provider now charges $2.00 for the privilege. (I'm in British Columbia.)  But from the comments above it is likely the same outfit.Unfortunately, there is no way for Canadians to register with the US DNC list, although by the sound of it, it wouldn't be of much use anyway. Our (Canadian) DNC list seems to work up here, aside from the numerous exceptions so generously provided by the CRTC. These databases should be linked, although that would still require our respective governments to "grow a pair" and start prosecuting the offenders.

Lately, I've been job hunting and am forced to apply online via third-party vendors such as Indeed, Taleo, Brass Ring and others. Prior to my job search, I never got a single telemarketing call to my cell phone and I've had the same cell number for at least 15 years (it's the first/only number I've had). The reason I mention the job hunt, is because another person who commented about a different scam number that I also got called from, said he had recently been filling out online job applications.

If you've been filling out online job apps, please say who the third-party vendor is and perhaps we can put this together. You can find the name of the vendor at the very bottom of the job app, usually in small print. I have a bad feeling that one or more of these vendors is selling our phone numbers. Of course, my cell is on the futile DNC list.

They play loose with the truth.  I do not believe it.  I have added numbers to the list since its inception and have not seen any evicence of action.  I agree with others don't answer however I do resent the fact that my landline is being held hostage by telemarketers.  I do not answer it anymore.

Your BEST defense is to simply ignore the call. Adding yourself to lists does not help. Filing a complaint does not help. Calling them back is the worst. It identifies your number as a "live" number for any of the many scams they are working.

Best is to just ignore it. I periodically simply go thru my received calls list and purge it. Not a problem.

What happens to my complaint?

Do not call complaints will be entered into the FTC?s Consumer Sentinel system, a secure online database available to more than 1,000 civil and criminal law enforcement agencies.

While the FTC does not resolve individual consumer problems, your complaint will help us investigate the company and could lead to law enforcement action.

I have found that leaving a complaint on the Do Not Call Network accomplishes nothing except place the number in their data base.  The Do Not Call Law is typicall of our legislators.  It has no teeth and even if it did there are not enough people to prosecute it.  The Telemarketers know this and they continue to call.  Your best defense if to make a committment to yourself to never buy their product or donate to their cause including the politicians.

Survey
any calls not telemarketing are not included in the DNC registry  :  this means soliciting for money (for organizations)  political calls, donation requests, survey offers are not covered.   needs another law for that!!  I get calls from 360-529-6963  &  360-529-6912  & 360-529-6901 etc etc etc  besides scammers don't care about laws  they are looking for fools who have nothing better to do than play on the computer all day

Political Call
Every weekend for the past 3 weeks I've received a call from these numbers....I never answer as I do not know that number....however  I called back out of curiosity...only to receive a message...'political surveys of america...the survey is expired, press 1 to be removed'......which I did.....cant understand as I am on a Do Not Call Register......looked up on internet and found this blog....and found they are located on the West Coast of US...somewhere in the Columbia, Washington area and appears to be connected to the Liberal media.........
This is just another ....I am speculating here ...a tech survey from the thug administration that disregards the Rule of the Land.........I will wait and see if pushing the '1' works......however if it dosent.......I will pursue to the fullest.......

My elderly mother is receiving calls from numbers associated with ISI Alarms. She hangs up after hearing their threatening message from the "FBI" that there have been numerous break-ins in our area. Since our numbers are on the DNC, I just filed a complaint with the FCC and listed all the numbers that have shown up on her Caller ID. I suggest you do the same. I will not contact ISI to get a bs story from them. They are breaking the law and need to be stopped now.

Numbers on the Caller ID:

704-200-9912
360-474-3940

Signals have to be shot through the atmosphere, into space, hit something, and then bounce back down again. Okay, I understand this. But what's the deal with this one? It's a very simple question.

Create a contact in your address book with the name of SCAM or SPAM or what ever. Add the contact a block call list. Add each new number to the contact. The call will not ring through so you will not be haled from the toilet, TV bed or sexual interlude. I am unto 6 SCAM contacts each with 15 numbers. And the phone companies can or will do nothing about it! All they say is refer to some worthless government or pseudo government agency.

Call the number back - it is political spam - and you get a recording from "Ann". Press 1 and you will have the option to have your number permanently removed, according to the message.

If I'm not here, they leave a recorded message saying to press 1 if you do not want to be called again.  If I am here and answer the phone, no one responds.  Something screwy is happening with this one.  If I call the number, the recording says that "time is up for the survey".  Somebody do something about this PLEASE!

Telemarketer
Copy and paste from earlier poster ID "get them to stop". Excellent info here:

"Political Surveys + Free Cruise = Newest Scam
Given the size and battleground-nature of our state, Nevada is probably a ripe territory for this type of telemarketing scheme.

We received a robo-call this evening from Political Opinions of America looking to do a survey which, quite frankly, is almost a weekly occurrence here. But this one had a twist. After completion I would be eligible for a "free Bahama cruise" thanks to a "generous donor."

Cripes, I thought, have political surveys become so hard to get they need to use phony cruise offers to entice completion? Of course, it being one of those Bahama cruises, I knew this was essentially a boat ride with a bunch of special fees rendering it completely useless. But I was curious who was funding the survey, which turned out to be almost identical to legitimate pollsters, and why they thought they needed to offer a gift to complete it (perhaps a campaign donation would be solicited too).

After completion I was turned over to a boiler room, probably in Florida, where the lady robotically ran through her script touting the wonders of their Bahama cruise. I politely hung up and, after doing a quick Google search, found that my borderline faith in real political pollsters had been sustained. Political Opinions of America is just a front for selling the Bahama cruise scam and getting your credit card number.

One interesting point brought up by some on the scam boards was their belief that this company was hiding behind the political survey as a way to get around the Do Not Call list maintained by the FTC. If true, it's extra sleazy.

So remember, if you get a call from Political Opinions of America, just remember they are your run-of-the-mill scummy telemarketers.

Oh, and if you haven't listed your phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, do so. And if you want to file a complaint against outfits like this one, go here.  https://www.donotcall.gov"
