Anyone knows who this is?
DC 2009-08-04 20:40:41 Unknown
Yeah. This "Marc Vorshain" guy wanted a $700 deposit on a fully furnished apartment here in DC before I even saw the place OR him. This is his fax/phone number if anybody gets involved with this guy: +44 08719183923 or +44 8719183923 AND +44 703 1805678. THIS IS A SCAM.
McQ 2009-04-12 18:58:31 Unknown
(202)-657-6978.
Marcus Vorshain is trying to run the same deal on Craigslist in DC right now. He says he is in London and wants a deposit/retainer to keep apartment.
DA 2009-04-03 02:24:46 Unknown
asked me for 1000 without looking at the place
... 2009-03-31 00:49:18 Unknown
Same here. This Drew Werner (or whatever his real name is) is a scam artist. I saw the craigslist add for the apartment at 21 E. Chestnutt too, and he asked for $1000 to be wired to the UK. Beware!
x 2009-03-30 21:23:49 Unknown
Nearly was had by Drew Werner claiming to rent a Co-op in downtown Chicago on 21 E Chestnut St. Seemed to good to be true, I asked to reserve and he wants $1,000 sent to the UK... He claimed to be able to show me the place before I asked for the reserve though, don't know what that means. Renters, be careful...
renter 2009-03-30 17:58:33 Unknown
also, here's the new number he's going with: (202)-657-6978
renter 2009-03-30 17:54:54 Unknown
Man, really? I've been looking at this great place in Chicago to rent in Gold Coast... hasn't asked for any money, actually supposedly setting up a time to show it. Drew Werner, unfortunately. I was so pumped about this place, too.
Oh well.
R 2009-03-11 17:02:10 Unknown
Same thing with me. I haven't been asked for any money up front, but I see it coming.
My sister is a lawyer and told me to check who was paying the taxes on the unit (which is public domain) and it wasn't Marcus Vorshain.
She also said that this is running rampent in the area so renter's beware.

My sister is a lawyer, and when I told her about the place she told me to look into who is paying taxes(which is public domain) on the property and it wasn't Marcus Vorshain. thanks, i was about to take that unit....or he was about to take me!!!
James Smith 2009-03-10 23:47:02 Unknown
I am also dealing with this guy and he just asked me to wire him $1000. Trying to get some info on the apt building to inform the owner of 503. Hopefully all of our work will help bring him down.
Too Smart for this in DC 2009-03-10 17:45:02 Unknown
This apartment #503 at 555 Mass Ave is still on Craigslist. I replied, but the moment he said he was, "in the UK for business," I knew it was a hoax. I'm gonna play this out as long as possible and see if I can't report him. Good thing people are searching the internet and posting here so we know what's going on. I work 2 blocks from this apartment building and I am going to try to talk to the owner of #503 and let him know what this person is doing!!
upariver 2009-02-20 23:49:05 Unknown
well i am one of the people that fell for this guy. the apartment does exist, i had a friend who lives in dc go by and check out the building. i am in tennessee and was going to rent this apt for 3 months for an internship i have at the capitol. the man, marcus vorshain is the name i was given, told me to wire the 500 to a place in the uk where he was away on business. prior to this he sent a legal document that he signed and i in turn signed. all legit. we spoke on the phone twice, 2 different phone numbers. i am supposed to leave tennessee sunday to meet this man at the apt 503 in 555 mass ave condos. apparently i am going to get there and be without a place to live. i am a 24 student who thought i was being smart, now i am having to figure something else out within the next 2 days.
Think! 2009-02-11 21:47:22 Unknown
nobody lets you rent an apt for only $500 dpst. no 1st month, no app fee? come on! have you even seen this place?? If its too good to be true... then guess what it is!
craigbeware 2009-02-11 20:35:49 Unknown
this guys says he has an apartment in dc, which seems too good to be true. He said i would only need to give him a deposit of $500, not sure of what to do.
ZenLuv 2009-02-11 10:26:18 Unknown
Thanks guys..for the heads up- nice to know that in this day, people are still looking out for each other- thats awesome. If its too good to be true, then you know what....
Also watch out for the ones that are doing "God's work" in Africa and need a great person to take it over until they come back to the states.
I'd rather sleep in my car.
cheers

Re: Brentwood Rental Craig's List posting
According to property records, a guy named Mauricio Vargas, owned the unit at the listed address, then sold it in 2001. He now lives at 3675 Peachtree Rd. NE #26, Atlanta, GA 30319. Phone # 404-467-1096.
Someone should go arrest him.
Nazrafel 2009-02-10 20:22:29 Unknown
Same here! Same apartment in Brentwood. TOTAL SCAM
Rick 2009-02-10 17:33:43 Unknown
He's working the craigslist for apartments in Boston. Heads up.
Tenant 2009-01-21 07:32:56 Unknown
Can someone report this guy? Also report it on craigslist.
Al 2009-01-20 21:51:45 Unknown
Be careful this guy is a scammer, he posts on craigslist and waits for suckers to send him money for apartments that don't exist. Tries to fish people in with too good to be true deals on properties. Oldest trick in the book. He is doing it now on craigslist chicago. Don't fall for it. Do not share any of your information, or give him any personal information. BEWARE!!!
Art 2009-01-20 21:34:06 Unknown
I agree... whenver the deal is too good to be true...always check.. Good thing I check and I agree that person is scamming in chicago now. DREW WERNER is probably a fake name for someone operating out of Nigeria.
CHI720 2009-01-20 21:07:42 Unknown
He's trying it in Chicago too...
Cynthia 2009-01-13 22:35:08 Unknown
Yes, he tried to do it to me too. Replied to an ad on craigslist for an apt in Brentwood for $1000 per month. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is... Hope noone falls for this scam!!!!!
Laurie 2009-01-13 21:18:30 Unknown
He is now doing the same thing in Boston. I hope no one falls for it!
Jordan 2008-10-06 23:45:15 Unknown
Same here. He seems to use different aliases every time
Claire 2008-10-06 20:51:53 Unknown
Yup, I'm also in DC and he told me I'd need to agree to rent the apartment and give him the $1000 deposit if i wanted to see it. Riiiiight.
K 2008-10-06 18:40:58 Unknown
Same thing -- wanting $1000 to see an apartment in DC.
catching rental scams in new york? 2008-10-01 20:52:34 Unknown
Any one else call this number? He says he owns a coop in nyc and wants a $1000k deposit just to see it. sounds like a scam to me....
