Not illegal unless you have told them before that it is an inconvenient time for you.  THEN it could be illegal.

They are not a debt collection agency. Wells Fargo should sue them. They are thieves trying to steal identities. Contact the attorney general of your state. They didn't say anything about debt collection to the person they called (not me). They wanted their social security number.

Just block the nuts from calling your cell phone.  I answer and no one is there - they leave no messages.

And here's their main website.  Even if you legitimately owe the debt, they can't just abuse and threaten you, and you can be owed compensation if they go outside their rights.

Here's a link to the gov't agency for Fair Debt Collection practices.  It works, I've used it myself.  All I had to do was just MENTION this agency and I never got another call from a debtor that had been trying to collect a debt that had been legally paid 20 years before.

For those of you being harrassed, this website is GOLD re: getting rid of overzealous and illegal collectors (for instance, they can't come back to you 20 years after certain debts etc.).

Once on the website, Clark Howard has a ton of very helpful links to gov't agencies dealing with this sort of stuff.

They call 10 times a day.  There is never a person.  Mostly hag-ups or requests for my cell phone number.  I do not have an account with them so quit with the pay your bills crap.  These companies need to be sent to the cleaners.  Time to start suing.

They call my landline constantly with an automated call asking for my cell phone number!!!   Are they insane?   A bit like calling to ask me to have a "stupid" chip embedded in my head.

just a thought for all of you claiming that you do not have an account with Wells Fargo...perhaps you should make sure your identity hasn't been stolen...

Just received another call (6:52 am), and again they didn't leave a message.

What good does it do to call if they aren't going to leave a message?! Is this simply a robo-call to sell me something, or do they actually need to talk to me? My mom used to receive robo-calls from collection agencies for my brother, and they always left a message on her machine.

I receive about 5 calls a day from this number.  When I answer, the phone clicks (like someone just hangs up) and I get disconnected.  I really wish they would answer so I could let them know they have mistaken me for someone else (I have never done business with Wells Fargo) and take me off their calling list.

Whoever you are, you are wrong.  Neither I nor any of my friends or relatives have accounts or do business with Wells Fargo.  I pick up the phone at least 5 times a day and when I answer, no one is there.  I hear a click and the line gets disconnected.

Not a scam you idiot! I called them back and it is in fact Wells Fargo calling out of Vancouver, Washington.  They had my number because somehow, my roommate ended up giving them my number, listing me as their nearest relative. I'm not related to this person who I had to evict from my apartment for not paying their share of the rent.  I informed Wells Fargo that I am not a relative and to please stop calling.  They have made it clear they will continue to call.  I am considering getting a new phone number. I get 6 calls a day! People need to take some responsibility for their bills.  If you aren't paying them, or are paying them late, you will get called.  It's not rocket science.  I don't understand why people act mystified when they get called by their creditors for late or non-payment of bills.  Then people like me who are responsible have to deal with this B.S.

I just received a call from this number. They reached my answering machine and left no message.
I was surprised to see that people above say the call is from Wells Fargo, and especially that it's for collections. It must have been an automated caller, because they called at 5:40 am, which I'm guessing violates some law.

I have impeccable credit and have never done business with Wells Fargo, so hopefully they never call again.

I happen to answer one of these calls to my cell phone one day and they said it was Wells Fargo calling to lower my interest rate on my credit card.  Number one:  I never pay interest on my card and Number two:  Wells Fargo does not call to get credit card numbers over the phone.  This is someone trying to get your number so they can use your card.  Wish they could be caught and stuck under the jail.

Have been getting these calls. I called Wells Fargo customer service because we do not have an account with them. Talked to a nice rep, explained the situation. He filled out a no contract form over the phone so they wouldn't call us anymore (or email, or mail - though we hadn't been getting those). Also gave him this number, so if it is a scam, they can be aware of it. He apologized profusely for the inconvenience. So as long as this isn't a scam, the form will hopefully work.

We are receiving 4-5 calls a day from the number listed above.  We answer and as soon as we identify ourselves, the caller hangs up.  This is VERY annoying.

Quit preaching at people and name calling.  Have you ever been in a situation where you have struggled to pay a bill? Many people have.  You said, "Try to be more responsible and keep paying down all of your credit cards"  Isn't that what this person just said they are doing? Honestly, in my experience, ( I got into trouble with a credit card when I was younger), ignoring these call is all you can do if you do not have the full amount to pay these creditors.  You can call them and tell them your circumstances.  They don't care. You can try to make arrangements to pay your debt down, BUT they aren't really willing to make reasonable payment arrangements.  They many times want more than you can give and they will harass you incessantly.  It's just better to let the calls go to voice mail, and save up some money to send to the creditor.  People make mistakes, but credit takes time to straighten out.  If you don't have the money up front there is no point in creating more stress for yourself.  I worked for a credit reporting agency, and I've heard the horror stories.  This is the best advice I can give.

These people keep calling my cell phone and say they are with Wells Fargo Credit Services.  They ask for a person and when I punch the number that lets them know this is not the person, I get a number to call to stop getting these calls.  When I call, I get the Credit Services and they want me to enter my accoun number.  I do not have credit with them if they are Wells Fargo, and refuse to give them my checking account number, so I hand up.  They call sometimes twice within an hour.  It's frustratin.  When telling them this is not that person's number, they should get the message.  I also might add, I have had this number they are calling for almost 3 years.

That's funny because it worked for me! I ended up getting $28,000 minus attorneys fees. So YOU need to not tell someone incorrect information!  It was ridiculous how much I was getting called.  I don't even have an account with Wells Fargo.

I've gotten a lot of calls from this number recently...no messages, no one there....just calls........I've said this before, I will restate it....perhaps those behind the calling will get the message and learn.....here are my rules:

1.)  If you call me, leave a message.  If you do not leave a detailed message that includes who you are and why you are calling, then I will not call you back as it is obviously not important.

2.)  If it is important that you speak with me, you will call me.  NOT an automated dialer of any sort.  Pick up a phone and dial my number.  I do not "stay on the line" when robo-calls are received.

3.)  If you call and we speak, you will be polite and I shall reciprocate.....if not, the call will be ended and future calls declined....I believe that everyone needs to be nice, even if the matter at hand is unpleasant....if you don't like that, don't call me.

4.)  If you call and we speak, you shall NOT place me on hold....afterall, you did call me.  Put me on hold and I promise I will not be there when you come back.

5.)  You will not call me from a blocked number unless you do not want me to answer....all calls must have a valid number that I can call back if I desire.

6.)  A failure to follow these rules automatically constitutes a desire for no communication on YOUR part, not mine.  As such, it will also constitute an understanding that we have no business to discuss and I am under no obligation to buy anything from you or pay anything to you for any reason.

Pretty simple.  If they can't abide by the rules, I will not do business with them.

This would actually be Wells Fargo Financial. They are one of those together but separate type of deals where they have always been part of Wells Fargo but have, in the past, done business separately. They have come together more and more with the current economy.

I have tired to explain to them that by calling so much they are defeating their own purpose as each call only delays my paying them. They are extremely nasty when they call and treat you like you are guilty of a felonious act by having trouble staying on top of bills. All the while having absolutely no understanding of how the current economy is affecting people. I would imagine that some of the individuals that call have similar problems but still treat you like you have no business falling victim to any situation that keeps you off of their list.

I have gone as far as telling them that I would be more than happy to move out of the house and let them have it but that I would be blowing the gas meter on my way out. And that it's not my fault that they loaned well more than the house has ever been worth because of their shady business practices. I find that any time I actually make the mistake of answering their calls they get so nasty that in response I throw that or similar statements at them before hanging up on them.

I got to the point that as soon as they would "advise" me that the call may be recorded I would just hang up. Now I just don't answer to save the trouble of having to hang up on them.

You are a fool.  If they are calling you, that means you arent paying your bills.  Some could consider this a deadbeat.  Calling once you are late, is honestly standard business for many financial institutes.  They are trying to protect their business from a loss.  If someone owed you money and you weren't sure they were going to pay it, do you think you would call and ask where it was?  I think so.  They do not, "immediately report you to the credit bureaus".  They have to follow the same laws as the other financial institutes.  After 30 days of a late payment you are reported the credit bureaus.  Before you ignore all of your bill collectors numbers, you should be aware that if they try to call you on an up to date account, say for a reason like suspected fraud, you may not get their calls.  Try to be more responsible, and keep paying down all of your credit cards.  If you don't have the money, then you don't need!

contact your wireless company...for a small fee every month you can block any number you want.  of course, that $5 every month could go to pay the bills you can't pay...but I doubt $60 a year will put a dent in them anyway so its well worth it to pay the $5 per month if for no other reason than your peace of mind.

I've never had a Wells account in my life, and they have called me 5-6 times per day for the last 2 weeks, as recently as 7:30 this a.m. (Memorial Day... really). When I answer, no one is there. I'd love to tell them they are calling the wrong person but there is no one to speak with on the other end.
