Government Grant Scams
Although government grant scams have been around almost as long as the government itself, the majority of the sites being advertised today didn't exist before the November 2008 election.

?Free Government Grants?: Don?t Take Them For Grant-ed
?Because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $12,500 government grant! To get your grant, simply give us your checking account information, and we will direct-deposit the grant into your bank account!?
Sometimes, it?s an ad that claims you will qualify to receive a ?free grant? to pay for education costs, home repairs, home business expenses, or unpaid bills. Other times, it?s a phone call supposedly from a ?government? agency or some other organization with an official sounding name. In either case, the claim is the same: your application for a grant is guaranteed to be accepted, and you?ll never have to pay the money back.
Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know. Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.
Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant. If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.
Look-alikes aren?t the real thing. Just because the caller says he?s from the ?Federal Grants Administration? doesn?t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch ? or not.
Phone numbers can deceive. Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in caller ID systems. Although it may look like they?re calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

So funny. I couldn't understand her and could hear a lot of people in the background. Finally she said she was with the US grants Dept. I asked where she was and she said Washington DC. BS! She said I had been awarded....you guessed it $7,000 grant. I told her no and to take my number off their list. I always google numbers and the majority of them are scams.

I was also told that I won $7000 in grant money from the government. When I asked them to send me information in the mail, they said they were unable to do that. They wanted to get my credit card info or I could call a special number to get it in cash. The scary thing is, they knew my address. Not my current address, unbeknownst to them, but my previous address.

Just like the others who have gotten this call, the caller sounded like a non-native English speaker. My first question was "are you an employee of the US Government. He said, "yes." I said you are lying to me. And hung up.

Just got a call from this number 368-220-5855, the Indian b*****d said I won Seven grand from the US government cos I paid my taxes on time and didn't have any criminal records. He asked me to verify my name and address which I did innocently but when he asked me for my date of birth, I knew something was wrong. I answered I was born in 2011. That moth******er told me F*** you and hung up the phone. Funny how I googled the 368 number and reading all your comments. F****ng Indian retards.

Said they were from the government and that we were receiving a grant for $7000 and how did we want it. I said by mail and they said it had to be to a credit card or bank account. Told them they weren't getting that info. He said that he woulkd put me thru to his supervisor but needed to confirm my address. He couldn't tell me my address so I informed that I would be reporting him.

A man called from 368-220-5855 and asked for a woman that used to have my number. He hung up on me, and when I tried to call back, a recording said the number was'nt in service. Weird. The internet... Scary, if you actually THINK about it, instead of letting IT think for you.....
