I received a phone call from this number (401) 223-3254 yesterday, Monday, January 13th @ 5:23 pm. A guy by the name os Brian Howell called me to say that I have 2 legal complaints against me and that I was looking at a court summons if I didn't take care of this matter. He kept saying, "okay" after every sentence, which I thought was very suspicious. He told me I would be arrested and placed in jail for this federal offense and he mentioned my payday loan I received back in April of 2008. Now I paid that debt off back in 2008, and I didn't think to question him about how he found my mobile number because it's unlisted. Anyway, he said he found my information through a search service, me quoted to me the last digits of my social security number and knew my physical mailing address. I made a mistake in giving the next person named "Megan" my personal bank information. He transferred me to the payment verification department and I gave that person my debit card information. Today, I had that debit card shut down, and I requested a new one today. Warning - Even if they quote your personal information to you, insist on proof of debt - DO NOT DISCLOSE YOUR BANK CARD INFORMATION TO NO ONE!!!  No crook deserves to deprive you of your hard-earned money. PERIOD!!!!!!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

These people need to stop harassing me and everyone else. They have threatened to serve me papers and take me to court. I reported these people to the FTC and Attorney General.

For the past 3 days, I have received numerous calls from 401-223-3248. They are calling my work on 2 different lines, my home, my cell & even my parents. No matter if the call goes to voice mail or if I answer the call, it is a recording. It states that it's trying to contact me to inform me I am being served for fraud. I actually returned the call yesterday. When you call, the first thing you hear is a recording that the call is being recorded & then a lady answered. They never stated their company name or their personal name. I gave the lady the case number they left on my message & when she pulled me up, she started asking me for my SS#. I told her that I would not be giving that out. She told me what the last 2 digits of my number are!! So obviously she has my information. I told her right then & there that I wanted a debt validation letter sent via US mail to my home address. She then asked me what that was. I told her that if she had plans to serve me at my home or place of business, she should have that already & that I was not giving her any personal information. She then told me that these papers would be served & to have a nice day. She then hung up on me. Today, I answered the 1st call immediately & the message today states that they need to verify my employment & home address to serve papers. I know that this is a complete scam & I have reported them to the FTC.

I received a call today. A person talks and then when they say your name it is a recording. They give you a long reference number and try to scare people with court actions. Don't fall for this it was legit they would  NEVER leave personal information over the phone. They would call you say who they are looking for! Who they are, and then they would ask you to call them back for a important buisness matter!!!

These people keep calling me on my job and on my cell phone two to three times a day.  These people need to be stopped, so people don't lose there jobs.

I just got the same message a few minutes ago from 401-223-3248 saying they will contact HR and file a suit against me and have papers sent to my job. Are they a legit company or just scammers?

Just got the same call from 401-223-3248.  Let's file suit against these people. If you needed to pay a debt how would you ever know from such poor poor communication that they have. Its time to STOP!

This number (318) 553-5138, with the same exact robo call message called me yesterday too. No company name, no information, just threatening to proceed legally against me, but conveniently the client is willing to rectify the matter. Scam!!'

I have gotten calls now from 4 different phone numbers within the last week with the same robo recorded VM from a woman.

Best advice is to ignore the callls; do not return them as it appears that they are trying to fish and verify some personal information on you that who knows how they got it.  Anyone that has to threaten you to get you to call is not operating legally in the collections business.  They cannot do that.  It isn't right that they contact other relatives either about you when you don't even live with them.  All their messages sound like recordings at bits and pieces during the message; it appears to be a scam operation.

Just got another one of these calls They called me on Tuesday BUT I did not answer the phone call. I heard the message and it sounded like a robo call. They said they wanted to serve me papers at work or at my home??? And they needed to verify my address. The first call was from a women's voice and the one this morning was a man's voice!!!
I know I defaulted years ago on a payday loan I paid some of it off. But who are these people???
They don't leave what company they are calling from, or the name of their company.
I would like to pay the loan off It's only $120.00
What should I do I know I read the posts above but are they legiate???

They keep calling me at work and home and when I ask for a statement of account they refuse to give me one unless I make payment arrangments or pay in full then they will send me an email. I ask for an address and they say no.

I have the same thing going on; they have been calling every day for the past three days leaving threatening messages. They don't say who they are or what company they are with. When I research the phone number it is a landline located in Providence, RI.  I don't know anyone in that state, and I live miles away. If they are not licensed to do business in my state, then they should not be contacting me as I will report them to the attorney general's office.  I have placed a block on my cell #.

they are collections agents for payday loans and are just trying to scare you into calling them back. Do not, they cannot do anything.

I get the same ridiculous messages a few times a week, sometimes every day.  They try to scare you but you NEVER get a warning about being served, duh.....you would actually get notified via certified mail of a pending judgement then if you do not reply in the timeframe a process server would show up at your home not place of business.  These are scumbags trying to scare you only.

Received the same call today on my cell, work, and a relative's phone number.  Saying that I have committed fraud and will be served a summons at my place of employment and home.  All calls were within a few minutes of each other.  I don't know anyone from this area code so why would I respond, and this phone number is not licensed to do business in my state so they should not be harassing me, and I cannot locate this phone number under the BBB either.  Tired of these kinds of calls randomly happening.

Received a recorded message from this phone number on my cell, work #, and a relataives phone number  al within a few minutes of each other.They are from the processing summons divsion; a summons will be served at my place of work and home address, and I need to contact them immedidately.  I don't know anyone located in RI nor are they allowed to do business in my state of residence as this phone number is not registered with the BBB or Department of Commerce in my state.

Got a robo call, that I have gotten a million times before.  Same autorecorded name and message.  Legal action being taken against me.  No company name.   Some neboulous message with no company name attached does not deserve my attention.  Nonetheless, for the purposes of putting the public on notice of the repeated and dubious actions of these bottom feeders, I will let you know that I have gotten this message before from a series of other numbers.  Always the same EXACT MESSAGE, that I will be served with a summons at my place of work or home.  And that they are calling to get my statement...  which is code to extort monies.  Not suprisignly, I have never gotten served or a summons.  I have never been sued.  These people are not protected under the FDCPA in my state, so they cannot sue me.  But most importantly, I do not owe money. A fact that they refuse to verify.  Which is what I will never call them back.  Eventually they stop calling..
