National Student Loan Program is a guarentee agency, which basically means they are the co-signers on student loans taken out before the Department of Education started guarenting the loans. They are NOT a scam. They are listed on the department of education's website under guarentee agencies in Nebraska     http://wdcrobcolp01.ed.gov/Programs/EROD/org_list.cfm?category_ID=SGA    . It is a VERY good possibility that they may have the wrong number when calling, if so just simply tell them they have the wrong number. You make think it is a scam but they call to try and keep you from defaulting on your student loans meaning terrible credit scores, paycheck garnishments, and possible with holding of your tax return. There are plenty of ways to verify this company and they are here to help you. They are part of the loans so they DO have existing business with you, they do not qualify for the do not call list, they are not telemarketers. They do not give out extension numbers but it is a small enough office where people can ask for someone by name. These workers help people get out of major financial difficulties... they are not full of trash scammers.

They're scammers and full of trash! Can't believe that's what people actually chose to do with their lives, while other people are out there making a positive difference in the world, helping people, teaching children, volunteering, getting fit, traveling the world, living in LA, NYC, sipping margaritas on a beach in the bahamas, visiting all the worlds landmarks and becoming better, wiser, talented, privileged people these scammers just sit around trying to steal. Pathetic. I bet their parents are really proud.

Scammers, you can actually sue telemarketers now and for each time they call you could make $50-200 depending on your lawyer and if you are on the DNC list. I've reported this number to my local police and plan on taking advantage of these telemarketers because they're nothing but scammers. SUE THEM !!!

Ok. Here's the deal.  The National Student Loan Program is a guarantor of student loans.  So yes they may be calling because you have a student loan or a PLUS loan for one of your kids and it could be that they have a wrong phone number if you don't have any.  In either case, they are calling to help you.  If you default on your student loan, whoever your loan is with... Sallie Mae, Nelnet, ACS or whoever will file a claim with National Student Loan Program requesting they pay off your loan.  If National Student Loan Program pays off your loan you could see wage garnishments and income tax intercepts.  Now you can easily verify who NSLP is by going to www.nslp.org or ed.gov.  You can also go to nslds.gov to pull up a list of all of your student loans and you will more than likely notice that NSLP is a guarantor on some of your loans.  Best of luck.

I am still in school my student loan is not in forbiddance, so why would they call me at 9pm about a student loan! Scammers I will email the D.O.E. Or direct loans about the matter not answering. I've been in school 6yrs and direct loans have never ever called me. Matter of fact they don't have my cell number, I've always corresponded with them via email. So these people are scammers don't give any info out. If and questions go to directloans.gov and email them.

Good job.  The fact is you don't have to give them your information anyway.  You don't owe them anything - they are a third party debt collector and you have no legal obligation to pay them a dime!!  Period.

You're best scenario is to send them a "Debt Validation Letter" and make them prove their claim.

I can teach you how.  Look for my response below or look me up my community page on facebook.

This call is coming from Nebraska Student Loan Program, Inc. d.b.a. National Student Loan Program (NSLP).  I advise each of you to log each and every call; including date, time, duration, to whom you spoke (if answered), etc...as much info as possible without identifying yourself or giving any information.  Look up my name on facebook and I can teach you how log and collect evidence and prepare to sue this company to put some money in your pocket for their violations of the law.

I am waiting to hear back from their attorney now as I've sent them a Notice of Intent to Sue letter, but I'd love to help some other ASSERTIVE individuals to take action and make some money!

The Do No Call Registry  is just a list of numbers who don't want to be called.  The scammers, thieves,  and law breakers don't subscribe to it nor do they abide by it..  It's just a list for honest businesses to have so that they know who does not want to be called..Its all of those companies who are NOT calling you that are honoring the list.

I received several calls from this number over the last month. After looking up the number here, I found out they are NSLP: http://www.nslp.org/borrowers/resources/managing-student-loans/ . I called 888.434.6548 to see what was going on. I told the woman who answered about the calls, she asked for my phone # and asked if my name was -------(not my name). I said no, she said my number would be removed from their database. While it was really annoying to get these calls, it seems easy enough to fix, I hope.

I called, no answer. Read these posts, called again. Finally got someone, they were shifty. Said it was "a federal business matter." Finally got them to choke out that it was a student loan issue. Refused to give them more information and called my student loan company directly. My final payoff was never applied to a loan. When I asked them why they didn't call me and just sent it to an outside company, the woman stated that they are further behind in student loan collections and due to the workload, they have outsourced it. No letters, no phone calls, straight to a skip tracer/collector. Real nice. Problem is solved with official loan company and three weeks later, NSLP is still calling.

53 yr old man here.  Never been in college.  Have no plans to go any time soon either.  The National DO NOT CALL LIST has proven to be useless to me over the last 4 years just so ya'll know, it takes personal / legal action against these ppl to bring it to a stop. Like, you got to call your local police dept. and file a real complaint, etc, etc, etc.  But believe it or not, it works.

Called by these folks several times in the last four days. I'm not sure who they are, although when I ring the number back I get the NSLP and a recording directs me to hold for the next operator.  Since even [my cable company] manages to leave a message (and they can't do a freaking thing right), I'm unclear about why these guys can't manage it.

This number calls daily.  It claimed in one voicemail that was left that they were a student loan service.  Seeing as how all of my loans have been paid off for at least six months, they have no reason to be calling me.
