I have gotten two calls from this number and they leave a case number to refer to and say "investigater Johnson" is calling?  They will not give ANY information about themselves.  I wonder if this is a new ploy for debt collectors?  they did mention that the call was being recorded.  Who is this?

Tim, thank you for this post.  It is excellent information.  I did some research on this and it appears to (finally) be a way for us to stop the harrassment from these callers.  We receive up to 17 calls per day, so it is nice to be able to fight back.

Yesterday evening at 6:23pm, 418-718-8885 called under the caller ID "CELLULAR CALL".  They had previously phoned under the caller ID "Bellevue NE".  I had already left them a message as I posted above on 8/23.  I phoned back (again) and left them another message to quit calling.

We have been harrassed by telemarketers for months now, ever since we moved into this area code and unfortunately inherited this number. We have an unlisted number and are on the Do No Call list, and I repeatedly request to be removed from the list, and I also repeatedly file complaints with the FCC/DNC complaint center. Since the problem isn't going away, I have found some other solutions. I have discovered the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA). People, it pays to be diligent, keep logs of all the calls and your requests to be removed. Then initiate a phone trace and find out who has actually been calling... in my experience calls from various area codes lead to the same call center because the dialers use pseudo-numbers. Once you know who has been harrassing, you can sue (within the four-year statute of limitations) and they are liable for damages of $500-$1500 PER PHONE CALL. This applies to debt collectors also. Hit them in the wallet, that is apparently the only way to win this battle. Call your phone service provider to find out how to initiate call trace. Here is more info on the TCPA:

Got a call from this number today.  We have sickness in the home and do not welcome these annoying calls.  If they are selling soemthing, we are not interested.

Yesterday "Bellevue NE" called, did not leave a message.  I phoned back within minutes, and received a recorded answering message claiming that we had requested to do business with them.  At the beep, I left a message that we did not request to do business with them, and to remove us from their call list.  They phoned back today at 9:09am, less than 24 hours later.  I have filed a complaint with the Do Not Call Complaint center.  We do not provide our number to anyone, except on a VERY limited basis, so we are quite certain that we did not request them to call us.  They do not provide a legitimate business name on either caller ID nor on their answering message.

I'm also frightened for you.

When I called back after-hours (using a temporary-issue work cell phone), I got a pre-recorded message giving their hours of operation (yet not their company name) and saying that a call from this number means they attempted to reach me about information I requested. Yeah, right. They're lying in an attempt to get around telemarketing laws.

The type of call you received was illegal. They are "abandoned calls" and are a violation of telemarketing laws.

This was a hang-up call and open line.  Would like to get these types of telephone calls stopped.  Nearly all the calls I have received lately are unsolicited telephone calls.  Please stop them!

quick hang-up upon answering....this is not a telemarketing caller....ignored previous calls but answered this time...read complaints on this site and it matches other complaints on other sites...suggest we all jointly ignore future calls...these callers are troubled persons....answering only encourages more calls.

The nerve of some people.  Another thing these idiots don't take into account is that there is a different time zone in different parts of the world.  9:00am in EST is 3:00am Hawai'i Standard Time!  Some inconsiderate, ignorant, blowhard called at that time yesterday.  We need to keep pressure on these dunmmies.  Like I always say " That's Unacceptable! You tell um Bruddahs and sistas.  Got this call on my cell.  They left no voicemail.  I too am on the federal government's No Call List.  wth?  It's obvious to me that these people do not play by the rules.  So we need to report these people to the No Call list on their site https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

I swear they call aaaaallllll the time! I plan on never answering because I've dealt with their type before. They never leave messages, which is suspicious because they call so much, you would think they actually want something!

They have called me every day once a day for the past 4 days. I declined the call the first time and they left no message, the second and third was the same message even after I answered (They hung up when I answered), that I had requested information from them.

I tried calling the number back within about 1 minutes time and I got a voice mail both times. Left a message saying no I didn't request information and to take me off their call list. I have blocked them with a call blocker but they keep getting through. I am really getting annoyed with these jack***es...

How do you tell them to stop calling when they don't answer you either way????????
