Called me yesterday, i missed the call. Called again today, i answered it. Something about mastercard preferred customer promotion. Stated i had won 250 in visa giftcards as well as 4 yr subscription to numerous magazines.i played along to see what they wanted. They already had my address and name. Then proceeded to tell me for 3.84 a month i would receive all of this. Asked for my card number and i lied and said i didnt have the card with me at the moment, stated they could call me back at a later time. Told them tomorrow would be fine. I now know not to answer. I dont give out my information over the phone. So everyone beware, they are asking for bank information....

IC3 is the FBI's cyber crime division.. So, now the little scammers are faking being Federal Officers to try to get the scam convincing. ROFL Epic failure of Micro scammers! I think the FBI has better things to do then pretend they can track such stuff and call people to scam or extort money.
No one can tell whats going on with someone else's computer this way.. The only persons who should be touching your computer is you, your manufacturer, Real Windows support that you have called and/or maybe a real live tech you see face to face!

I got a call from an indian guy to day. He told me my machine had a hacking tool installed called "Citadel Reveton" and that he was from IC3.gov. LOLOLOLOLOL. He told me to execute the command ?assoc? in cmd and then told me my Consumer License ID is 888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062. He then told me to open eventvwr in the run window and look in custom views. He then proceeded to ask me how many errors and I told him alot. lol He then point me to this website "http://service2pc.weebly.com" and told me to install a remote client "http://www.ammyy.com/AA_v3.exe". After that I told him that I could'nt let a stranger connect to my pc and steal my bank info etc... lol Then he hanged up.
I did some online research and found out it was a load of BS.

Got a call from this number at 10:10 pm. I am a Realtor, so my # is very public. I NEVER answer calls with area codes outside my service area unless I check first. Glad I did. Time to block!

I am having a problem with my computer and in trying to locate technical support online I came across a site that looked like it was connected to Windows. I left my number for someone to call me because I am one of those people that only knows how to use e-mail and surf the net. The call came at 4:30am pacific time. Voice mail got the call and it was a lot of static and someone saying hello.
I'm glad I checked the number and got this information from all of you. Now I know what to do if he calls back.

They called my father today and told him that they were from Microsoft. They said they received an error message from his computer. When he asked for their phone number to call back and verify who they are he was hung up on.
The caller ID said "Computer Help"

This Indian guy called and said he was Microsoft. He told me I had a problem with my PC. I told him that I don?t use a PC, I use a macbook. He then persisted that I had a problem with my macbook and tried getting me to open up a url on Firefox. I told him I don?t use Firefox, I use Safari. Then he told me to open the url on Safari. So I played along. I told him I was opening the url, but I was really looking up the number on my google search bar. I came to this website, which confirmed that this was a SCAM call. I continued to play along. He asked me to describe what I see. I said ?LIFE in milk?. Of course, it was early in the morning and I was eating my favorite cereal. He got angry and told me to describe what I see on my screen. I said ?a GEICO ad at 800notes.com the directory of unknown callers.? He hanged up. It?s so fun to mess with scammers.

Received a call from a representative supposedly from Microsoft. The caller id comes up as "Nelnet" with this number 402-875-9195. There was a click then you can hear a lot of talking in the background (i.e. call center).A man with a heavy Indian accent proceeds to inform me that they have received reports that something is wrong with my computer. I immediately told him I know that this is a scam and it's all over the internet. He kept telling me, no this is not a scam. He wanted to argue with me about this not being a scam, ha, ha! If I had the time I would have screwed around with him. I just told him he was an idiot and everyone knows about this. We get at least one call a week from "Microsoft systems" concerning a computer problem. It's amazing that these people can keep calling us from different numbers each week. Consumers beware of these calls. Thank goodness for forums like this where we can make others aware of the scams!

Keep getting calls from this number saying I have a virus on my computer and they need to access it. Very aggressive caller. I had to finally hang up.
| webtechi 2013-12-04 22:07:05 Prank Call |
Caller is obviously from India or Pakistan - cold calling & trying to scare the gullible into giving control of the computer. There is no way they can tie your computer's IP address to an individual phone number. It only shows the city or general location of the computer. So they are robo dialing numbers. It is clearly a scam, especially if you are running any robust anti-virus software.

Received a call from these guys a few minutes ago. I live in Montreal. Strangely, the last guy who posted a message is from Laval which is near my location. They are probably targeting different locations every time.
Same story for me. A guy with an accent, "Alex Brown", called and said he was from Microsoft. There was a lot of background noise. He transferred me to another guy, "Johnson", who told me to type eventvwr (which opens the event viewer application). He told me to open Windows logs then click on Applications. He told me that all the errors and warnings in Applications and system were malwares and viruses. This is were I knew it was total BS. I still continued to talk to him just to see how far he'll go (no school today, I had time to lose). Then he asked me what browser I was using. He told me to open a webpage, go on Google and type service2pc. Oh, and he was always saying type C for Charlie, S for Sam, R for Rogers, etc. He asked me to go on the first website, service2pc.weebly.com. He told me to go to the bottom of the page and click on the Windows logo. I ran the application because I have 4 antiviruses and I tested viruses on my PC. A program named ammyy opened. It's the kind of program which lets another user take control of your PC opened. He asked for my ID but I denied. Clearly a scam.
Unlike some other people, the 2 guys were polite and when I told "Johnson" I couldn't trust him, he said "it's ok, thanks anyways" and hung up.

Just received a call from (402) 875-9195. The number showed up on caller ID as: NELNET. The man on the line claimed that my computer was sending messages to his company and that he worked for MicroSoft. He said that the Windows 7 software was designed to provide the computer identification number and my home number when the computer was downloading malware. He repeated questions over and over in an effort to get me to say "yes" or "ok" or some other word or phrase that would indicate approval or authorization to remote into my computer. When I explained that I needed to check in with my employer before authorizing any remote access to my computer he hung up.
Obviously, this is a scam. And, remember to be very careful when someone is trying to get you to say the word "yes" or "ok" or "go ahead". These are common con artist techniques. ALWAYS remember to answer their questions with a question, instead. Instead -- For example: Is this (your name)? Respond: Why do you ask? or Who is calling, please? Or, if they ask: Can you hear me? Respond: Can YOU hear me? or What is wrong with YOUR phone?

got the call today in Laval, spoke with two guys... the first one (middle eastern accent) got pissed when I started asking questions, passed me on to a "supervisor" (asian accent)... sounded like they were sitting in the middle of the road... same bs about a high grade infection only they could fix, they had received error messages from my windows 7, which I don't use... asked me to google "service2pc", which I did not... beware, they are still roaming! hang up much sooner then I did... 5 min I will never get back!

I just got a call from phone # 402-875-9195, my called ID said it was NelNet. This guy "James" said my computer was sending messages to Microsoft saying there was errors and malicious viruses on my computer that they needed to fix. When he took me to a webpage where it said "remote access", I told him if he thought I was giving him remote access to my computer, he was crazy!!! The funny thing is, this company JUST called my parents' home number with the same scam. That time it was a lady, and when I told her I knew she was trying to scam us, she said "What do you mean a scam"?? Then hung up on me. We were almost taken by these scammers a couple of months ago, and I am now very vigilant in protecting myself and my friends and family from these people. Can't we stop these people??? Heck, I'll do anything to help stop this stuff!!!

Wonder if anybody played along and wrote down the URL so maybe it could be shut down, they probably would just change it, anyway.
Has anybody actually been harmed by virus or identity theft so far? As long as they have been doing this, I wouldn't be surprised.

I too had a call today from this man. Could hardly understand him, I told him I wasn't interested and he kept talking about protecting my computer! I asked him where he got my number, several times (was a cell number) finally he hung up, between me saying "NOT INTERESTED" and "WHERE DID YOU GET MY NUMBER?".
Actually I did recently get a scam e-mail...from (it said) Kohl's store offering a $25 gift certificate if I filled out a survey. After I went through endless questions, unrelated to shopping, I quit and called Kohl's! They said it wasn't from them, that it was a scam using their name. I am on Kohl's regular mailing list, otherwise, I would have been more cautious
Also I began getting multiple calls about enrolling in universities and offering medical supplies asking about information to call my doctors! I regret putting any information out without checking with Kohl's first!
Did anyone else being harassed by this "eastern sounding man" have such scam survey they fell for?

Scammers. Rajiv ("Jeff") calling "from Windows" to let me know they are receiving error messages from my (Apple) computer. Boy did he pick the wrong day to give me an opportunity to tear somebody a new one.
For future reference, Indian men really, really hate it when you say anything to imply that they are gay, so if you want to get a little payback...
