This is a telemarketing leads company. The call to phish or confirm data & resell it. It's just a third party vendor that tries to sell their information to other companies. Par for the course with doing business. However have to say considering small offices get 10 calls a day like this, it just gets irrating when you are trying to take care of the ACTUAL customers. So for the InfoUSA employ responding-being in telemarketing grow a thicker skin. People do not like sales calls in general, nothing personal.
You do realize that your string of rude comments is the exact reason I just refused to speak to one of your people. Any legitimate business that is calling to simply verify business information for Google and Yahoo, has absolutely no need to know the number of employees the business has, the name of the President or anything beyond company name, address, telephone number and website.
Clearly you believe everyone is a moron, when in fact, phone scams like this are rampant and annoying. Business owners didn't get to where we are falling for the hokey scams of minimum wage telemarketing jerks.
I just hang up on them. They should not be calling but they still do - annoying.
Listen people, I do SEO work for a living. Companies pay me to help increase their ranking on search engines. InfoUSA is one the places that I make sure has the companies info. Other than Google itself, InfoUSA is probably the next most important place to have your information. It is not a scam. Do you not want people to be able to find your company? Yes, they sell your information. They sell it to people like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yellowpages, etc. Yes, they also sell it to telemarketers, which is the downside. But unless you already have all the business you can handle, I would recommend confirming your information with them.
Reading these comments, you all sound like a bunch of paranoid old ladies! "Oh, its a scam, its phishing, oh no, they are calling my business" Wah wah wah
When did you start working for Express? Why else would you so vigorously defend them?
Dr Robert Cohen
These people are vermin. They call our private organ transplant logistics line, even when I told them never to call again they persist, they use blocked numbers. While I was waiting for confirmation that a chopper was bringing a human heart for transplant they called from a blocked number, refused to hang up and immediately called back. I informed them I was a physician and that this was a restricted phone line and that they were interfering with potentially life saving surgery but they did not care.
There is obviously one of their scamming employees on this thread making nasty comments. Yeah that sure will get us to use their service. Hahahahaha
Companies who arent scamming don't hide their caller id.
DNCLs are not for businesses. What are you hiding?
It won't. They use tax and SEC filings, as well as yellowpages (who pays them.) Don't start a business if you don't want to be found.
Got a call from this number. ID shows anonymous, didn't answer, no message.
This number called us just a few minutes ago and had the same outdated address that D&B has on us. I updated the address (gave no other info) and hopefully that will make a few more people stop sending mail for us to the wrong address. No clue if it's a scam or not but the lady (Barb) seemed nice and didn't speak fast at all, and had all the other proper info for our company (including Web URL).
To be clear, I do not work for InfoUSA.
This is one of the largest data compilers in the country, and one of the sources Google uses to verify the information it puts on the Google Map. They are one of the only companies that actually call to make sure the information they have is accurate which reduces the chances that fake listings appear online when you are searching for a reputable company.
This is actually a good thing for consumers and a good thing business, despite all of the negative comments and sentiment.
If companies are unable to source accurate data, their marketing costs go up, their profits go down and their ability to stay in business and hire employees goes down, driving up the price you pay for their goods or services.
In addition, printers go out of business, paper companies go out of business, the post office lays people off and the list goes on and on. Fewer people in your community have less money to go out to eat, go to the movies, go on vacation, buy clothes they can then take to the local dry cleaners, etc, etc.
Less taxes are collected, leading to more deficit spending, causing tax rates to go up, further reducing the amount of money you have to purchase goods and services.
More people go into foreclosure, declare bankruptcy and default on credit cards and student loans.
You can think that that no one should ever market to anyone, but that is the exact opposite of what makes this a great country. The idea that a company should not have the right to market or advertise its business puts the entire economy at risk.
The indignation that someone called you from a legitimate company with a legitimate reason while making no effort to solicit any business from you or sell you anything at all is just incredible.
Randy M. Wisnouse
I also received a "solicitation" call from Express Update USA today, I requested that I be placed on theri DO NOT CALL list, and she stated she could not do that for my business number, which is not true. She then referred me to another 800 number to have my number removed. I called the 800 number and she refused to put my on their do not call list, claiming that I had to email or fax them, which is also not true. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!!
LOL That number for Vinod Gupta they say he is no longer at the company. HA HA He is the CEO? Well that can change so now the new person is Michael something and I was able to get his assistant and speak like Apu from the Simpsons asking why you call my house!
I verified a totally bogus email address. ;)
Not your business
InfoGuy and Their Company, collect data NOT only about your business but if you are a consumer too.. Which means they SELL your personal information so that you become spammed out the you know what with people who NOW have your name, address, email AND phone number.
What they do not get is, they come off like they are legitimate, whether they are accepted by State or Federal Laws makes no difference, because wrong is wrong. If people WANT services, and want spams that is one thing, but when they deceptively sell, or use your personal information so they fill their pockets full of cash selling it, is a whole other game, a bad game, a game of invasion of privacy, of breaking Constitutional Laws, you have U.C.C. Codes that they break left and right. They have many clients that will PAY big bucks for that information, they fail to tell YOU the business owner or YOU the consumer who their clients are. Some of these clients have done very bad things to become wealthy and rich, other clients break laws regularly but have the money to buy their way out of jail, some clients can pose legitimate reason for obtaining information while they are also getting paid but some that want your info for reasons not even business or consumer related. Meaning they could wish for your information for other nefarious reasons, even put you at risk for losing your peace, life and property. For all you know they collect the data, and give it to a company for what appears to be consumer targeted advertising but on the side there is a joker who wishes to in return pay that company for your name and address to do with it very bad things unrelated to consumerism or business..... Either way U.C.C codes are broke and even if State and Federal law allows this to take place there is such a thing as immoral acts done even within laws that are in place.
This is far more reaching then them just wishing to verify your business.. BUT remember their site point blankly states it is also about collecting personal data about consumers... So it is NOT all about business.
If a person wants certain products to be targeted to them, they can get off their own butt and search it out for themselves and deal with those companies personally that sell those products you are interested in. This way the CHOICE remains with the person and is fully in their own hands ....
then out of the other side of their mouth big agencies are talking about identity theft and here they are letting jerk companies do this that they do. They also use YOUR private so called public records, that they HUNT down like a dog after its prey... What if the person's life is in danger from things that this company has no clue about, They then put them exactly in that danger they strive to keep out of. There are madmen/women on this planet and data is very sensitive to each individual. It is NOT the right of any company, and I do not care if they are million/or billionaires, their money does NOT give them rights to deprive others of their personal freedom to choose.. Take that infoguy and put it in your brain to ponder over and then go get a decent job that does something to help mankind, not enslave it.
None of your business
what gives you the right to call them in the first place??? NO right.. You absolutely have no right whatsoever to collect personal info on business or personal phones UNLESS invited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your lying and your company has every intention of using personal data for selling and nefarious pursuits. This is to infoGuy. The right hand does not always know what the left hand is doing in organizations like the one you belong to, in other words those at the very top use the information illegally, for collection data purposes, as in invasion of privacy and freedom to live in peace and liberty... You work for bad people.
