I've been getting called from this number about once or twice a week for the past month of so. Why all of a sudden do they just start calling and calling and calling and when will they stop? I just ignore the calls but it's still annoying. They're calling on my mobile phone. Any ideas on how to block the number?

Repeated calls from "800 service". Recorded message discloses it is a company called Timberline on behalf of Cox. I am on a Do Not Call list and will cancel as many Cox services as I can. At the moment, that includes telephone, cable and Internet. Their loss, not mine.

AJ--speaking of tiny little brains, America is a free competition country, last I checked.  No private corp "owns" a market, and any competitor that thinks they have a better product & can do a better job can sell in it.   I used to work for a telecom telemarketer.  The calling lists of current customers COME FROM the telecommunications company---NOT their telemarketer.  The telecom company is trying to either 1) break into a new market, or, 2) sell its current customers new products/services.

And by the way---if we are current customers of the telecom, they can have telemarketers call for them, even though the customer is on the state or federal DNC list. Its called an EBR and its a specific exemption to the rule that if you're on the DNC list you can't be called.  If you don't like the calls, you're supposed to let them know.  Pick up the phone, or call them back and say no thanks/no more calls.

Go to the FTC's website.  That's where I got schooled.

If they're hired by Cox to selling Cox Communications products then they need to be schooled not to call people in areas that are only served by one provider.  I live in Los Angeles; Time Warner owns that market.  Get it through your tiny little brains telemarketers DO NOT call people in areas that are not served by the company that hired you to sell their products!

If you don't answer, they will give up.  I haven't received a call from them since my first post above on October 15th.  So if you want it to stop, don't answer, let it go to voicemail or answering machine.  They give up after several calls with no live person answering.  I think most telemarketers assume it's not a live line if they never get a human being.  Which works for me!  :-)

you sound like seeing a legit telephone number appear on your caller id is just twisting you up. :) Really, people, is this really something to get that bent out of shape over?  I watch this site to see reports of outfits that are not following the law...it's a little freaky to see so many people literally frightened that their phone rings sometimes.

:) When I get unwanted calls I pick up the phone and firmly say "no thanks--please take me off your calling list."  I've never had a problem.

We understand the telemarketing industry was able to push through a loophole in the "do not call" law.  The issue is not legality per se--it's annoyance.  And these folks are annoying.  I really could care less if they're *legally* annoying.

Nightly calls from this outfit with (of course) no attempt to leave a message, call back # if we want what they're pushing, and then stop.  They're almost certainly a Cox contractor, but the rationalizations here attempting to justify their conduct are both humorous and very fishy at the same time.  Annoying telemarketers who are really just "performing a service."  Boy, that's a good one.

looked at their website.  no cold calls from this outfit.  you must be a current customer of whoever hired them to market stuff for them.  that's the DNC list execption.  look up the FTC and it explains.

I agree Theresa.  I am in business too and know that its hard to follow every law. I looked up this number on this site to see who they were.  WHat  surprised me more than anything was all these comments about this outfit not following the law when they seem to be following it fine.  What in the world is so horrible about seeing a telephone number on caller ID.  Are these people so high strung that this gets them out of whack?

I used to be in sales when I was in college and worked for a hotel telemarketer.  THe call center had to display their number and did.  People called us back if they didn't want to hear our sales offers, or picked up the phone and said no thank you.  Period.

Telemarketers have to let phone rings for 4 rings or 15 seconds.  That's another rule we followed. No less, then they disconnect and must move to the next call.   might be that some of the posts here are just missing the call and when they pick up its past the 4th ring.   anyway its amazing to see people getting so whacked out.

I'll bet that the companies they work for hire telemarketers to market for them too!

This number calls all the time, but since I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize, I didn't know who it was.  I only have a cell phone, no landline, so that's the phone I have to use for everything.  When I first got the call, I figured it was either someone with the wrong number (which I get a lot of, and I did a search for the 402 area code and I don't know anyone who lives in Nebraska) or a telmarketer.  So I just didn't answer, and I still don't answer, I look at the display on the phone before answering.  After several calls from it, I Googled it and ended up here at this website.  And since everyone that knows me, knows to leave a message if they call on a number that I don't have in my phone, these guys might as well give up, since if I don't know who you are, I don't answer, simple as that.  :-)

I have called back numbers--political calls, charities, marketers---etc at the number they give on the caller id and there is no time limit on making a don't call me anymore request. We can still call this number and they will honor a DNC request anytime.

I've gotten a million calls from these guys. Not once have they left a message. Plus every time I've picked up the call in time, there's nothing but silence on the other end. I finally got fed up and googled their number, bringing me to here. I wish when I picked up they would talk so that i could tell them to stop calling me!

I am reading this and can't believe all of you are not picking up the phone and saying "no thanks" when they call.  No need for $99 for a machine to screen your calls.   There was another telemarketer who was trying to reach me and I picked up the phone and told them not to call anymore for any reason, and they put me on their own list.   That way Timberline wouldn't ever call you again for any reason.

And its free.

I get calls from this company and have only gotten offers I can't get from Cox that I can't get through the mail or other sources.  I have an "existing business relationship" because I am a customer.  They have saved me lots of money.

Karen, and all who are complaining---look up the law before you make these complaints. Its easy to find on the FTC site.  The law PERMITS marketing from companies we have an existing business relationship with even if we are on the DNC list.

Fair is fair.  I am a business woman and if someone is following the law, then I don';t think it's right to call them the horrible names you have.

Even though I can block these calls, I was getting 2 a day since 9/22 and they filled up my Caller ID so I caught one and answered and they were surprised but when I said I was on the DNC list and I did not want them calling my number, they transferred me to their DNC dept who took the number and said I would get no more calls and it worked.
P.S. I also called Cox and bawled them out for selling or giving out private, unlisted numbers to telemarketers and their answer was if I would buy their phone service, they would block the call. I said all you need to do is NOT give my phone number to telemarketers; no need to block the call; no need to buy Cox phone service. Cox didn't like that answer. Very disappointed with Cox Customer Service.

I have also been called by this company. I don't know exactly what they are calling about since there is always no person on the other when I actually answert the phone. I have already filed a complaint against them in the www.bbb.com website. They are a member of the bbb. So if I where you I would use this venue to file a complaint. I have been recording all of the times they have been calling me. This is really getting annoying.

Glad I could help with the Caller ID Manager suggestion. I wouldn't be without it anymore. I was able to cancel my Embarq Privacy ID that cost $9.00 a month and didn't stop any calls that showed name and number like Timberline shows. I can even stop the special number the phone company gives to calls that come in with no name and no number. It took research to find out that was my phone company's number and when I also subscribed to their have a list of numbers to block..I found out that number of theirs was not allowed to be blocked. But the Caller ID Manager works for no one but me and blocks annoying calls perfectly.
Good Luck using it. I know you will really really be glad you got it.

You're right about the caller ID manager.  I spent the 99 dollars and it is an absolute blessing!  I recommend it for anyone who is frustrated with these telemarketing calls.

I don't find their comments "stupid", I find them the normal response to frustration.  I have learned that these telemarketers (yes they are a telemarketing company hired by Cox) have been asked to post positive comments on this site.  Perhaps that is the basis of the positive comments.  I don't care who they are or what they represent, calling numbers that are on the "do not call list" is unethical and represents the the disrespect that most companies have for the privacy wishes of individuals.  We've stated our position by putting our names on the DNC (do not call) list.  We expect, no we DEMAND, that this company and all others respect that wish and abide by the regulations not look for methods to circumvent them.

Just started getting these..9/22/07...9/26/07 2X. I am a Cox subscriber too. I see the Do not call list says okay for a company you do business with..well..Cox can call directly but I don't see this as permission for other companies not owned by Cox to call.
Anyway, I just block all calls from the 402 Area Code. This also stopped a Gallup constant call from another 402 number. My phone does not ring at all on these calls but my Caller ID shows they called. The best thing I found is the Caller ID Manager at
www.privacycorps.com.  Check it out if you really want to only get calls you want. Mine is set up so for Timberline it just rings and rings with no answer but on my end..there is no ring at all. I still report these to the DNC list cause I am not a customer of Timberline itself!  Hope this suggestion helps others.
