Same call, caller ID said Omaha, NE.  Older man said "sorry I must have the wrong number".

It is some sort of scam or theft ring.  My political party is Republican, just curious if it is politicaly motivated.

I literally just got a call from this number. its from nebraska...im in california. you dont just misdial california. i let it go no viocmail. wierd that theres a whole bulletin bored for this...

I just got the same call on my cell phone here in WA.

My husband's cell, my cell, and our home number all got the same call. I can't think what would be accomplished by this call. Has anyone contacted the authorities about this?

I got a call from this number a few minutes ago, a saturday morning. I didn't recognized so I didn't answer...glad I didn't answer.

1-402-982-0819 called me at 9:48 AM PDT, then while I was posting on another site, called my spouses cell number. it is a mechanical voice, and seems like s/he is using a prefix calling device.

Yesterday, I let the answering machine screen the first call from (402)982-0819. No message left. They just called again. Once again, no message. So I came online to find out who they are...and found a plethora of "Who the heck is this creepy party with the pre-recorded message?!?" comments. If you are a Qwest phone service member (as I am), and have call-rejection as part of your package (as I do), you can pick your phone back up after they call and dial *60, which will walk you through the call-rejection process. They will then simply get a message saying you are not receiving calls...your phone won't even ring.

Just a little info, not sure if it will actually work but if you call the number back there is the option to have your number put on a do not call list. It says to wait up to 72 hours for this to happen so I wont know if it actually worked until a few days from now. The recording still doesn't tell you what they are trying to sell or anything though. It just talks about a special promotion of some kind. Anyway, hope this helps!

received a call on my cell at 9:47am on saturday 8/8/09.  mechanical voice said i am sorry i must have wrong number.

Just got a call from the same number in WA on my cell phone and the mechanical voice said  "I'm sorry, I think I have the wrong number."  I'm wondering if it is just a recording or if anyone has actually had a real conversation with the person on the other end - like "Who are you trying to reach?" and actually got an answer.  If it's just an automated call then it is in full violation of a number of state's telemarketing laws and it would appear that it's just a test to see if the phone number is valid.  This will later be sold to someone else who will place telemarketing calls against it.

These people called my hosue a couple days ago. We have 2 lines and they called them both within minutes of each other. The number came up as Private Office. I finally answered and I got the same mechanical voice that everybody else did. Then just now, I got the same call on my cell phone! Who are these people and what do they want?

Got about 6 of these at my work place in Tacoma WA yesterday, a few during the week and now one at my house  in Port Orchard (WA) at 9AM on Saturday morning.  Someone needs to get a life and leave mine alone.  Too busy for cr@p like that.

4029820819 just called my husband's cell, then mine, I answered, had the mechanical "I'm sorry I think I have the wrong number" then my home phone rang a few seconds later. 9:47 Saturday 080609.

402-982-0819 has called both mine and my wife's cell phone and said "I'm sorry, I think I have the wrong number." Its an Omaha, Nebraska number and if you call it back they ask you push 1 to be put on do not call list.

Same thing, bout 30 mins ago.  Guy sounded stoned in a methodical voice.  Sorry I must have the wrong number.  I live in WA as well, he must be going around the country

Also got a call this morning, I didn't answer, got a voicemail with just a second of silence.

The most likely purpose of an automated system calling numbers over and over, and then saying "sorry, got the wrong number" is that they (or an automated system) are looking for fax or modem lines.  Once they have a list of fax lines, you can be targeted for fax "junkmail".

Port Townsend, WA I received 3 calls today with this number and voice. 2 on my business numbers and one at home. Same voice, same message!

I got a call from this number at my office this afternoon and at my home this evening. Same mechanical voice both times says "I'm sorry I think I have the wrong number." Caller ID is 402-982-0819 Private Office.

called our home number at around 12:50 pm here in Seattle, WA on Fri. 8-7-09 - our caller i.d. said "private office (402) 982-0819" - I answered and a male voice with noise in the background says he must have a wrong number - I then asked him what number he called, but he then hung up without responding to me.

Hope they are not targeting homes for burglary - the police confirm that knocking on your door, or calling your phone is often a way criminals see what hours you are home ...

Recieved call this afternoon while home for lunch, didn't answer it. About 30 min to an hour later the same number called the office I work for. Voice said "I'm sorry, I think I have the wrong number." Caller ID at home and work showed the same number and name.

He just called my house so I typed it into google and found this....he had the creepiest serial killer voice...like he was outside my window. He just said he had the wrong number. I'm in Sacramento, CA

I received a call at 5:50pm.  I was not home and the caller id said "private office."  I googled it and found out a lot of people were complaining about this.  It creeps me out because I'm on the Federal "Do No Call" list.  And seeing that people are calling the number back and that an actual person answers the phone makes it even more creepy.  I am filing a complaint with the FCC.
