I didn't have the option to opt out or be put on a do not call list, so I pressed 1, as soon as someone answered, they got an earfull of the airhorn. I'm sure I won't be getting called back by these idiots.

These people are slime balls. I played along to get to a human and when I told them to put me on their do not call list they hung up.

The number is from Nebraska I will contact their better business bureau.

Got a missed call from this number to my cell phone.
The strange thing is that I live in Colombia, South America, so I guess telemarketers are taking their job abroad.

I've finally connected a fax machine to my phone jack.  Whenever I get one of these kinds of calls, I simply hit the Fax Answer button and let the fax take over...usually I don't get more than one or two more calls from a number before they leave me alone.

They finally left a message, it is for business owners and they want to advertise your business on the interenet.  It came up Brooks Partners.  In otherwords just another telemarketing.

I'm not putting a lot of stock that all these outfits are in the given states the area code is assigned to for a pretty simple reason.  If you sign up for Skype or some similar unlimited flat rate calling in the USA these days you can pick whatever area code you want.  So little is known about some of these callers that it just makes me a bit suspicious on that score is all.

These jokers call coincided with an online purchase I'd just made so here is one alternate theory of what they could be doing.  Online retailers aside from the big ones are a high risk for charge backs and credit card fraud so one way they can get their rates improved is by showing they are double checking their marks.  Just checking that the phone number you gave is live probably would qualify as a security check measure as folks operating with a stolen identity might also be using a bogus phone.  So although the number they would put in a field might match the registered info along with the address the phone being disconnected would be a red flag.  I mean think about it, you are asked to enter an address, phone number, and security code.  You can either drive by and knock on the door to check the address or call the phone number to see if it's real.  The security code isn't much use if the thief is in physical possession of the security code or even if they got it by fishing.

I'm not saying they aren't some sort of telemarketing think and they definitely aren't in Nebraska mind you I'm just pointing out that this would be a natural extension of what they do.  As it is these firms which are hired by various corporations and charities to outsource an otherwise expensive proposition use computers that call on average 2-4 numbers at a time and whoever picks up first gets the pitch while 50-75% of people who answer get some sort of lame recording or an outright hangup.

I used to date a young woman that worked at one of these places when she was attending St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and they basically employed college students at minimum wage.  I happened to get two calls right in a row seemingly from two different states and maybe it was coincidence but I'm not always a big believer in coincidence and put more stock in patterns.

So ya just saying with VOIP telemarketers sitting side by side might show up on Caller ID as two different organizations with two different area codes.  Go to Vonage or Skype you'll see what I mean.  They don't care if you live in Boston or LA if you pay your bill you too can have a Nebraska area code if you so wish.  Or an 800 or whatever pretty much.

Another source that might explain some calls if you are not an online shopper has to do with federal requirements online brokers have to adhere to.  I'm sure they'd tend to outsource it too but the FEC requires that they make periodic good faith attempts to make sure you are still able to access your investment accounts.  A firm like Scottrade will call you/me never had a problem but ING Direct does not and they have a lot of complaints against them with the Treasurer here in Minnesota.

I just have an intuitive sense some of these boogers are actually running compliance chop shops and whether or not the firms know they are paying people to hang up on their own customers that is the end result a lot of the time.

Then again some probably just want to sell you aluminum siding for your apartment building or fix chips in your windshield so who knows?  If they were being honest about it all folks wouldn't be wondering about it all the country would they?

Whoever owns this number note I'm on the DNC list.  My phone service keeps track of the number of calls from this number and related numbers for same and after five calls I'll be sending a bill for $500.  Annoyed individuals let's unite and fight back against unwanted calls.
