Be careful. It is a scam trying to get your private information and possibly to steal a few bucks from you supposedly to process an application. They should be jailed.
To defend ourselves against these scums you should call RCMP at 1-888- 495-8501 or report to

780-254-2398 is not the only number they call from.  Sometimes it shows up as a 403 number and sometimes "unavailable".  I have pressed #2 numerous times to be "removed", but they keep calling back anyway.  So I pressed #1 and a girl answered and said "Debt Solutions, how much debt do you have?"  When I said, "well actually I don't have any", she hung up...obvious SCAM.  But what to do about it?

The phone company won't block the number because it changes, and you can't call the number because it doesn't connect.

The phone company suggested to CALL THE POLICE FOR A HARASSMENT COMPLAINT.  If we ALL do this, maybe someone will shut them down or charge them?

Yes... and if you' want to be removed, you're supposed to press 9, which, on most telephone services is used to save the call instead of deleting it.

I've tried blocking 403-245-2398 and it can't be done. When I try blocking "last caller" it says the number is not available. And when I try entering the number, it says it is "not correct".  They must have some sort of fake ID on the line and it's actually a different number they're calling from.

They continue to call on both our numbers. Now they are calling themselves Debt Solutions. Now they are apparently located in Kitchener Ontario even though they are calling on a 403 number which doesn't exist if we call them back. They refuse to give a street address for their "company". Don't be sucked in.

Would ignore it, but they have a habit of calling my place at 3 am.  Sleeping with a whistle by my bed from now on.  If I have to be startled, so do they.

Thanks, I'll check my phone to see if it has this feature.  Called the number back using *67 to block my number and it said that this number no longer in service.  Male voice on the other end, sounds suspicious.

I received another call from the phone robot the next morning, March 14, 2012. No message was left on my answering so I assume the spammer's machine is broken. This misuse of the phone system needs to be stopped.

These are not telemarketers.  They are the collection agency CBV under disguise!!!!  Another number to add to their list is 647-788-4090.  If they don't get you to answer the 647 number, they will call back from the other Calgary area number 403-254-2398.  Look up the 647 number for further details.

Few minutes back, I got a call. I just pressed 9 to remove my name from list. I shouldn't have done that. Earlier I heard that if we press the digit they mention, somehow it gives them access to our phone line and they use for long distance call or something.

I received a call from this number today, March 13, 2012. A recorded voice of a woman said that the government just came up with a new program to save me money on my interest payments. She said If I had $10,000.00 in unsecured debt, and are struggling, press 1 to talk to a representative in my province now. Then she said the information and repeated that I should press 1. This unnamed person then said I should press 9 to be removed from the list. I know that these calls are just con jobs so I let the answering machine take them. No company, government department, or organization was mentioned by this anonymous phone robot.

They called me today. Hung up on me when I asked to be removed from their list. I hope they call again and I'll see if I can gather some more information from them.

Called to our home # in Calgary - it was a recording - woman's voice about a new government program on owing money or something. Hung up immediately. We are on the DNC list, so what gives?

Some telemarketing robocall. This one's really annoying because it's a local Calgary number. Might be a political robocall because the first words I heard before I hung up was "The government". For some reason I can't get Telus Call Screening to block the thing. Must mean it's something being bounced around from Pakistan or some such place. I would advise against the "blowing the whistle" suggestion given earlier in this thread. I did something similar once (involving a screaming rubber chicken - seriously) and all that happened was the guy called back several times over the next few minutes. And another time the guy called me back and started getting threatening and abusive. It's not worth it and it's usually just a recording like this anyway. Buy a phone with call display, buy an answering machine or voicemail service, and institute a policy of not answering calls from unfamiliar phone numbers. If they're legit, they will leave a voicemail.

My advise is to not take this call. If you have a Panasonic phone there is a call block feature that does not cost money in the menu. I now have 28 blocked numbers and it works wonderful!

Yes!  I pressed 1 on one of them too.  They think they're sneaky using different area codes or what??

I've received this call before and pressed 2 to be taken off the list, but of course, it doesn't work because they are scammers. So today I pressed 1 and asked the fellow if there was another way I could be taken off the list and he said it takes awhile to be removed. I asked the company name and he said "Debt Helpers". I asked where they were located and he said uuhhhhhhhhhhhh, Alberta (probably after he checked where I was calling from). Then I asked for an address and he hung up on me. A clear sign of a scammer.
When I called the number back, it said I'd dialed a number which is not in use, so obviously they are hackers.

You'd think with the volume of calls this is generating (just got one again myself a moment ago) that they would be able to track it!!  If it was a few calls originating from random places, OK, but this must be constant bomb-dialing and you'd think that somewhere in the phone system they could pick these up....

These numbers are spoofed by computer to show area codes near the person being called 'cause calls from what APPEARS to be a local number are more likely to get answered and even responded to. They SEEM more legit. The same people use many numbers and most area codes. The calls originate out of country making them very hard to prosecute (or even find).

These are spoofed numbers generated by computers to display an area code near you to increase the chance of someone answering. The calls originate or are routed out of country to make it nearly impossible for the CRTC or the police to prosecute or even find these scammers.

Bear in mind that this is from a 403 area code and therefore this is actually one that can be reported to the Canadian Do Not Call list. Unfortunately they ask you to provide contact info which the fine print says may be provided to the person you're complaining about, so word to the wise. But nonetheless the fact they're using an actual Alberta number rather than some VOIP or 000-000-0000 nonsense means there is some recourse. That also goes for reporting them to Phonebusters (which might be worth trying for those outside Canada receiving the calls.

I have gotten a call from this number several times in the last couple of weeks.  I tried to block it, and yet it still comes through.  Don't even listen to the message anymore.  So sick and tired of this.  The do not call registry does not work.
