My wife got a call on her cell phone from this number. She never phoned 911. I think there is a glich in the system or people with a little power are abusing it for there enjoyment.

Same as above.  I was suspicious and tried to call back when my phone log didn't show any 911 call going out.  Automated message says that number doesn't exist.  Tired turning off my phone.  Phone is locked on, ie they continue to listen to your phone even after they have hung up.   It felt a bit creepy so I pulled the battery.   Phone was fine after.   You could turn it on and off.  If you can't it means they've locked you phone line open so they can verify if there really is an emergency.  My daughter was  putting her children to bed at the time and that's always a sob time.  Perhaps they heard that in the background and decided to keep the line open in case.  

This is in fact 911. I can't believe how many people are actually angry they received a call from 911 verifying they were OK. Would you rather they just left it alone and didn't do a thing? What if you were actually in trouble?

I agree this system isn't perfect, but could you imagine how much tax we'd have to pay if they sent emergency response to every person who mis-dialed 911?

Personally I think it should be harder to dial 911. You should still be able to do it from a locked phone, but not so easy. I have a touchscreen phone and I can make it pocket dial if the screen is facing in and the pants are tight...

My phone is Huawei and it has dedicated button which can press itself and it is for 911. And I got a call from this number so that is definitely the 911 number.

Yup this is CPS, I was actually trying to call 911 today (car accident) but my silly cell kept picking up my Bluetooth in my other car LOL (I was less than a block from my house) I eventually got through ok but they had called to see why I was calling 911.

This number is assigned to Public Safety Communications in Calgary.  

They always call the number back if they receive a 9-1-1 hang up from a phone.  They receive over 400 accidental 9-1-1 calls from cell phones every day.  

The posting from Andrew above is correct.  911 calls do not always show in your call log.  By the time the 9-1-1 receives your call from your cell phone they have the date/time of the call, the duration of the call, the address of the nearest cell tower that your call passed through, and possibly an approximate triangulation.

If you doubt that you are being contacted by the 9-1-1 Centre ask them their Operator Identification Number and call the Centre back.  

Keep in mind that the nature of your response to the Operator may form part of the basis of whether or not they send a police car to check on you.

it took me a while before i figured out that by pushing any number over multiple times it goes to 911  my kids are very sneaky  on doing this

In the last 2 weeks I have had 2 separate incidents where this # has called me and both times the caller inquired if I was alright and said I had called 911. I neither case had I placed a call to anyone or any company.

I am very suspicious when this happens to me. I always keep a close eye on where my phone is and if anything is pressing up against it and, these two rules were being observed when both calls occurred.

This number is genuinely from 911 emergency. Some cell phones do not store 911 calls in their call logs so be carefully with the emergency call buttons (i.e., blackberry lock screen)

Received a call from this number this afternoon around 12:15. The guy on the other end claimed that I had called 911, and asked what my emergency was. I denied it and hung up. Checking my call history, I confirmed what I already knew?I hadn't dialed 911!  Talk about irritating?

Just got two calls from this number on my cell this afternoon.  It went to voice mail and a female voice said it was 911 calling - that my cell had called them and to stay on the line if I needed help.  According to my call log its total BS.  This is either a collector going to previously unheard of nastiness or a real a**hole scammer.

Same as some others -- got a call saying that I had called 911.  I thought one of my kids might have been playing with my cell & apologized. I checked the call log on my Blackberry & the most recent outgoing call I made was 6 hours ago & it certainly wasn't to 911.

Strange.  The guy was polite & didn't grill me like the reall 911 person grilled me on a previous occasion when I actually did dial 911 by mistake.  What kind of scam is this....?  When I try calling the # back after reading the posts on this page, an automated msg says "you've just dialed a number that isn't in use".

This number was left on our answering machine. Due to privacy reasons, cannot return call.

I just experienced this and I had not used my cell phone all evening. they called 2x and said it was CPS returning my phone call because I had dialed 911. Weird, maybe my phone is a defect.

I received a call from this # this morning at 6:50am saying I called 911 and if I was safe in my home and if everything was okay. I had my baby playing with my phone (it was locked however) so I thought perhaps she pressed a button. Once he said said that I better not let my baby play with my phone and he was very annoyed, he let me go. Then I thought I would check my call log and there were no calls going out, only this # coming in. CREEPY! I will be asking more questions if they call back again thats for sure.

i also got a call from this number at 12:25 am this morning. didnt answer, they left a voice mail. it was "911" calling as well. what the hell is this?

I also got a call from this number. They said I called 911 and asked me if everythings ok. But I have not used my phone today at all. At first, I thought it was some kind of prank call. If this was 911 they should send the police out just to check. I could have been a rapist or a robber answering the phone. Got me wondering.

I had this this morning... Called CPS - they said its their backup line, they dont take incoming calls on that line. They use it to call ppl and see if theyre ok when their phone dials 911.
