Ugh. I just got the same call as Margaret in Winnipeg. It seemed harmless to me - questions about pets, recycling, own your home...I was rude to him the whole time, but I played along with his questions. I can't wait to see if I win the daily prize...NOT.

On checking further, I found this 2010 decision by the CRTC against a company (Breathe E-Z Homes Ltd.) who used SPT to do surveys just like this (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-572.htm). They got people to agree (or not disagree) to a followup if they won a prize, but they sold that phone list to a company who then used it to target consumers (thus telemarketing, even to people on the DNC). They were fined the ridiculously low sum of $2,000, and either they or another company must have decided it's worth that little bit to try it again. (The website for SPT given in the footnotes no longer exists.)

The one time I respond to a survey (I'm in Winnipeg) and it turns out to be scammers! (From what others are saying.) The info on this site is useful; now I know I'll probably get a follow-up call. I only answered the phone because I was waiting for a long-distance business call and that showed up on the screen - it wasn't till I hung up that I saw the number didn't show up on my phone, just "long distance." But thought I'd finally be nice to a survey worker (it's not a fun job; I've done it) and only realized something was up when it was too late: she'd said she was taking my number off the list immediately and she'd never call me for another survey, but then said I might win a prize. I started to ask her how the heck they'd contact me if I "won," since she said she's just said she was removing my number from their records right now, and she ended the call abruptly.

SPT environmental research.  After pressing as to why her number doesn't show up and to be removed from her call list, she pretended to not hear me and eventually hung up.  I can't block the caller because a number - v11132300290108 shows up.  What is the point?  How do people make money off of this scam?

got a call tonight from 604-998-8841 - thought they said they were from ESEO???Asked the usual questions as per above recycling, smoker ect ... her name was Michelle, when we got to the end end she asked for my name. When I refused to provide a name she said I had to supply one. I explained it was a survey and no name was required. She actually argued with me when I told it was MRS. and refused to give her one. After telling her she could use MRS or nothing and terminated the call, she called me back ??? Since the time was now 9:04 EST I picked up the phone saying "Michelle, the time is now 9:04 EST and you are in violation of Ontario calling laws put your manager on the line." She pretended she could not hear me and terminated the call - lol - will definitely get more info if they call again --- by the sounds of it from previous post I will most likely hear from them again

Had 2 calls now from this company, SPT Environmental Research, Heather from 604-998-8841.  Answered her basic questions, however, when she asked my profession i answered Prostitute, my husband is a Mercenary and kills people, although he only works part-time!  She said we sound like a hard working couple and should be proud!?!?!?  Obviously her english skills only pertain to the script she is reading!  Told her i didn't want her "prize" and please remove me from call list as i am on do not call list.  She responded that they are  a research company and not telemarketer. Another one for call-block.

Came in as "unknown name/unknown number" (I googled to find this).  Yep, SPT from Manilla, couldn't tell me what SPT stands for, said the website was SPT.com (redirects to an unrelated insurance site), didn't speak English beyond his script, got confused and hung up.  Whatever.  They've learned that the Do No Call list doesn't apply to surveys, so they're claiming to do one to get their foot in the door, so to speak.

just got a call from an unknown number asking the same questions, any smokers, any allergies, so i recycle, do i own or rent, what do i do for a living, what does my husband do for a living ect..... hung up i was feeling uncomfortable about the personal nature of the questions.

SPT Research -- or whoever they are -- called me several times between yesterday and today. They're aggressive and won't take NO for an answer. They'll hang up and call you right back. I'm annoyed and want to know how to stop these people. Apparently, when it comes to telemarketers, the CRTC's responsibilities end at our borders.

Had a survey questionnaire asking about clean air quality.  The caller (female) said she was calling from the Phillipines.  She represented the SPT Research Company for air qualiaty.  The number to call back was 403-648-2643.  She said I may have won something for answering the questions and will notify me later.   When I called the number somebody answered who couldn't peak English and hung up on me.    I called twice.  Same thing happened.
I answered her questions with vague answers.  She had no idea what the company's full name stood for - SPT when I asked her.

How do I report this scam?

Just got the same call over two nights. Before giving any info I asked for their number and Clarice said I was entered into a draw on september 17 for $500 for any store!!!!  They also said I won either a trip for two or a Slapchop. I said I would take the slapchop and she said that's great ... Its what most people take!!!!  Anyways I got their number and she said her company was Meditech group which was weird cuz the survey yesterday was about recycling.  Anyways I have no intention of calling back but thought I would still report it

I just got the same phone call and was totally caught off guard. I was asked the same type of questions pertaining to whether I recycle, what line of work I was in,whether it was fulltime or part time, how long I have lived at my residence and what my first name was. I asked where the woman on the other end of the phone was from and she said that she was from the Philipines. I asked what her number was and the name of the company.She said that it was 403-648-2643 and that she was calling on behalf of a local Hmailton Independent Consumer Trends Survey. She said that they would be calling back tomorrow for my address and a chance to win a prize. I told her not to bother and not call again once I finally caught on to this skam. I called my local phone provider and they told me that if I were to receive the call again to press *57 on my phone and immediatley call the police so that this number could be traced. I called the 403-648-2643 number back and a woman answered saying she was from the Philipines but that she had a daughter in Australia. Ironically,my credit cards had been recently compromised and there was a charge on one of them for a plane ticket to Sidney, Australia. I have called the police and the Canadian  Anti-Fraud Centre with reference to this situation.

Being curious about a call I recieved, I participated in a 'survey' from over the phone (different number)

Today I 'Won' a set of knives or a trip for 2 for 3 nights from this number that called me back. It's of course a scam, and should be covered by the CRTC Do-Not-Call list.

I am reporting them now.

Got exactly the same thing. They ask for your address and will have your "price" deliver to your door given the permission that you let them try to sell you their products.

Got a call from that number requesting my information about home and work. Phoned back the next day for my address to give me prize delivered to my door. How should I report?

Got tricked! They called and I gave the info they asked for. Had ethnic accent. (woman) Called the next day and it was a very pushy man! I wasn't ready for him! I managed to book an appointment to get my "free" knives and a presentation. I tried to call back---busy signal. I finally found the business name and a reachable phone number! Breathe EZ homes, AKA 403-214-1446. I called this number and asked them to cancel my appointment and take me off their call list. They were actually polite, probably since I was so irrate. SCAM SCAM SCAM! I wish I knew how they got my number!!

Got a call Saturday night - I demanded that the caller identify herself by ID number and she refused.  Got angry when I persisted and eventually hung up on me!  Before hanging up she had a man come on the call.  My advice is take control of the conversation and:  1. clearly state to them that the conversation is being recorded and when they acknowledge that then 2.  state that you are registered with the government on the Do Not Call List and that the recording will be forwarded to the government along with their ID/name.  
Be persistent about asking for their ID and tell them repeatedly that you want to be taken off their call list and eventually they will hang up on you

Same thing happened to me this eve. The man with an accent I couldn't recognize zoomed through a series of questions:
Do I smoke, if I was married, where I work, how long I worked there, if I recycle, my first name etc.
When I insisted he give me the name of the firm he was calling from he said he was from "SPT Demographic Research." I googled this name, but it brings up a number of different pages, so I'm not sure which it is or if it is even one of them.
When I asked what the firm's phone number was, he said it was 403 648 2643. I called this number, but it comes up as a number that doesn't exist. But the area code is an Oklahoma area code. Interesting considering I live in Canada.
