They have called my house asking for my sister-in-law and have accused me of being her because I would not give them her phone number.....They kept calling everyday wanting her number...because we live a few houses away.  They just call up anyone around your address...

I get calls from this number daily, but they leave no message.  I called the number and was told I reached Cappio Partners.  They were searching for someone with a different first name than mine but the same, very common last name.  Companies like this routinely use automated dialing to call everyone with a similar name in hopes of getting the one person they seek to collect a bad debt.  This is an outrageous abuse of innocent people.  They pretend they have dialed a wrong number, but they know exactly what they are doing.  

My tactic is to tell them:  1. I am recording the call.  2. No one at this number will answer any question without payment of a consulting fee of $250.  3.  Any further calls to this number requesting information of any kind is indication of your acceptance of the terms of this contract, including the fee.  4.  Otherwise, "CEASE AND DESIST" in making calls to this number.  5. If they insist that a CEASE and DESIST instruction must be in writing, I reply that this recording is sufficient.  Then I add, "make any claims to my attorney, and I list the name of an ambulance chasing law firm that places way too many ads on TV.  This usually stops further calls.

Do not put up with the tactics of these companies.  Do not cooperate with them.  Put the responsibility back on them, where it belongs.  Make them liable to you for payment for their policy of making harrassing calls to innocent people like you.
