I keep receiving calls from PRC. I block every number they call from. they keep calling from different numbers. Somehow they call from numbers that I have blocked. I do not know how they call back on block numbers.

THEIR STOCK IS DOWN 24% SINCE THIS CAMPAIGN STARTED. FAR BELOW THE DROP IN THE DOW. KEEP UP THE PRESSURE FOLKS!

Reverse boycott. Together we are destroying their cost/benefit ratio by consuming their service. Their legal model is less vulnerable than their business model. Individual efforts against their legal model have failed for years. This united effort against their business model is succeeding.

When a company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.

Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.

Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.

Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.

I like to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer. "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.

Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the mass auto-dialer business model becomes unprofitable. Don't aide and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.

Press 2 for Spanish.

For any business, customers who consume the most resources but don't pay (or otherwise add value) become the least desirable. Most businesses will stop (cease and desist) soliciting an undesirable customer. Those that don't stop remain knowingly vulnerable to the actions of their undesirable customers. Few companies can afford to let everyone take a piece of them whenever they want endlessly. For instance they must pay staff to answer everyone's telephone calls which can be placed at your convenience for the joy of it. Call and consume their operator time without paying or giving information. Be a bad customer. The worst customer. Inspire them to invoke their right to refuse you service by not soliciting you.

There are certainly enough victims to take down this company so ignoring/blocking seems downright Orwellian to me. Really? We're just going to passively submit and go with a block list or however we manage ignoring an endless stream of unwanted phone calls day after day? Hell no! Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.

It's 8 pm and Portfolio Recovery is calling my Unlisted Cellphone Number from another one of their numerous numbers.  Comes up "No Name" on my caller ID.  As usual, I don't answer.  Really sick of them.  They're lower than a snake's belly in a wagon track!

These are Portfolio Recovery Services, a very shady debt collector.

In 1998 my mother took out a credit card in my name, maxed it out, and I didn't find out about it for years.  That was 13 years ago, the debt has long-since passed the Statute of Limitations, and is off my credit report.

They first tried to call me in 1997 (when it was already past the SoL and off my Credit Report).  I followed FDCPA practices to-the-letter and sent a letter demanding they cease communication.  They seemed to pay attention. . .except for one call in January 1998 when they called me and I told them I'd already sent a FDCPA cease collection notice, and they said they would note my account as such and they never called again. . .

Until the last few days, they've started calling me, again.  The first time this number showed up, I answered and found it was a debt collector, who immediately launched into telling me I owed $6,000+ in debt to them.  I told them I denied that there was any legally valid debt, and I had sent FDCPA notice to them years ago.  The collector called me an outright liar, saying I was lying in telling her I had no such legally valid debt (I wasn't about to get into an argument explaining why, with the SoL and such, it would have done no good) and saying I was lying in claiming that FDCPA notice had been sent, and said I have to send it again.  Now they are calling every single day, weekends included, from this number.

They will never get a single dime of my money, and the rate they are going at, they are going to get hit with FDCPA complaints for ignoring my cease contact notice.

I blocked all of Portfolio's numbers that they called on, plus others I found on a google search. It looks like they have added new numbers with out there name as to trick people. I have never answered any of there calls as I know when they confirm your name they will up the calls and such. I have no over due bills, and have nothing on my report for many years.

404-592-5171  called my unlisted cell phone and asked for my husband.  They want payment on an acct charged off 11 years ago.  Do not call these people back as your call can be misconstrued as an acknowledgement of a debt you are no longer obligated to pay.  Save your sanity and save the number as "Do Not Answer".  They are pond scum who try to trick the uninformed into paying off debts that have passed the statute of limitations.  If this debt was an issue, would I have been able to buy a house without paying it off?

Find out about their illegal activities, trying to collect old SOL - STATUTE OF LIMITATION expired debts from clueless people!

Google: "portfolio recovery scam".

Report them to the Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau or your State Attorney General - and block their calls:

Google: "phone call blockers" - they can be purchased for little money at eBay

Some call blockers:
• Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
• Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
• JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.

By the way, if you want to set up your phone to forward their calls to the Federal Trade Commission, here's the number to use:
1-877-382-4357

These pests buy very old junk debts for pennies on the dollar with expired statue of limitation, than use illegal harassment tactics trying to intimidate uninformed individuals to pay money for this junk debt, which is noncollectable since the statue of limitations has long expired. Never ever agree to pay ANYTHING to these law breaking rats, since by doing so you would void your statue of limitation protection. Google: \"Portfolio Recovery Associates Scam\" to find out more about their lawless behavior, send a letter requesting validation of debt [Google how to do so] and report them to your Attorney General, the FTC. They have many law suits pending against them. Don\'t fall for their scam - block their calls, or send a \"cease and desist\" letter [Google] or simply ignore them, or answer and sing a song or whatever. Fight these slimy roaches!! Good luck!

They called me about a debt for a friend -- I asked for the last 4 digits of any phone numbers they had on him.  The phone numbers they provided did NOT match any phone numbers he has had for the last ten years!!!

They know no limits - calling day & night - i have 16 of their numbers stored in "Do Not Answer" on my phone. Trying to collect on 10 yr. old debt, waaaay out of statute of limitations for any State in the USA. I answered the first call a few months ago & talked to a very rude chick. She kept asking if I was the person she was looking for & I said "no" but that didn't stop her from being a total b. I ended up hanging up on her. Last call was from FL. Once they called like 7am & I answered. The lady asked for such & such & i told her I didn't know anyone by that name. SHe said 'can i leave a message?' and I said I don't know who she's looking for & she said "OK" and hung up. Heh. Guess harassment wasn't her strong point :-) I doubt she has a job there now.

Don't admit to anything. Search for a list of their numbers & program them into your phones so you don't answer them by mistake. Life's much simpler without having to deal with these idiots.

Just called me on a Sunday afternoon. Also repeatedly calls my cell. This did not start until I upgraded my cell to Android smartphone. Coincidence? Also just bought a brand new car - showroom new. My credit is squeaky clean. Will never answer unrecognized numbers. Suggest same to all. Portfolio Recovery Associates are the lowest of the bottom-feeders.

They are bill collecters for attoneys who have purchased old debts that were either charged off by the creditor, or have since been declared no longer relevant because they were taken care of through a bankruptcy, or in many cases are past their statute of limitations (time period) in wich they may be enforced to be collected.  The courts have shown that the original debtor (the person whom they are trying to reach or contact) in these cases does not owe the money to these collectors or attorneys because these atorneys are not the original entity or company that provided debtor the credit.   However, if the person they are trying to contact who originally owed the debt - ACKNOWLEDGES that the debt was actually theirs - the courts then may enforce that the debt be paid to these attorneys who have bought the acount from the original credit provider.  The key is to NEVER acknowledge the debt or their calls - if you do - then the courts may rule in their favor and that person (the original debtor who they are trying to contact) may be forced to pay off the debt to them.

ALERT!!! ALERT!!! SCAM ALERT!!! ALERT!!! ALERT!!! SCAM ALERT!!! ALERT!!! ALERT!!! SCAM ALERT!!! ***************************************************************************************************************************
When they call DO NOT VERBALLY acknowledged that the even debt exist; especially, if the debt is older than 7 years. This debt collection agency takes old "charged off" debt and buys it from  "Junk Debt Wholesalers" - for pennies on the dollar.... They then try to "FORCE AN UPDATE" on the debt by entrapping you into verbally acknowledging the debt exist while they record your every word....Then after you acknowledge that the debt was left "UNPAID"  they will try to force you into a Payment Plan by using threatening to serve sue you. IF YOU FALL PREY TO THIS TACTIC and you end up making - Just one more payment.... They can update the charged off debt by reporting your payments to the credit bureau... which means: The bad debt: will reappear on your credit report as a delinquent account
