I think a lot of their calls are on debt that they bought for pennies on a dollar from credit card companies BUT then after some time of  unsuccessfully collecting on the debt, they resold it to another debt collection company but still make calls in hopes of making some money.  Having been in sales...a lead is a lead forever.  Unfortunately, some people never 'trace' what happens to their debt.  some may be gullible enough to send these losers a few dollars while they may have in fact already settled the actual debt with the legimate owner of the debt 'note'.   The people making these calls are pathetic in their own right.  They are lied to and recruited with pie in the sky commission numbers that they will never achieve.

Just started here while back said I owed 2???.?? for a credit card in 1994 and they where going to collect Yeah I just hate the calls I'm not home all day but they call at 9pm also then on the weekends can not get sleep. I know that this is BS because I never had the CD they are trying to collect on!

Calling in regards to a credit card my husband had in college...1998!!! This isn't on his credit report any longer and they start calling 14 years later to collect what they say he didn't pay off?!?! That's a load of crap!!

If they call your cell phone it is likely they are using the Avaya Predictive Auto Dialer, which is illegal under the Consumer Telephone Protection Act. Was there a moment of "dead air" before the call connected. AUTO DIALER. Contact an attorney, file complaints with the FTC, the Virginia Attorney General, the Attorney general of your state, file the complaint forms you can find online for the Attorney General. SUE THEM, they now owe you money, 500-1500$, Write down when they call, record their calls. If you have a cell phone download some apps... Mr. Number App and a recording app that will record all your calls. Log them, write them down, record them. SUE THEM. There is a class action lawsuit against them in Florida right now for calling cell phones with their predictive auto dialer. ATTORNEY GENERALS: SUE PRA LLC for maliciously violating the TCPA and FDCPA.

I answered the first time they called,  it starts off telling you from a message center to press one to talk to a rep. ,  but they never give you any information or who they are calling.. I do not owe any debt to anyone.   So I never answer now at all.  They have called from several different numbers saying same thing from same message.   I have turned this over to a lawyer and turned this into BBB.   Its nothing that concerns me at all. I am an old woman on a fixed income, my husband died just recently and he took care of things like this but now it is up to me.  I live in a low income apartment, have bad health problems , I don't need this.

Yeah, I've been getting calls from them but I just look at the name and number and mute my phone. Because I have a new phone number and most calls I do not know ask for a jack. and then agrue with me when I say this is my new number. So if I don't know the number I don't answer. I enjoy playing with such folk, seeing how high I can make it up the corporate ladder by being very sweet and sincere-sounding, with polite requests that they look into a problem I'm having with people from their company calling me who seem unable to listen when you tell them the debt is disputed and keep calling me back but always interrupting when I attempt to explain something.

The trick is to stay sweet and polite, of course you don't want to get anyone in trouble but couldn't they get this employee some help on their communication skills.

Looking for execs home phone numbers sometimes pays dividends. Corporate counsel are particularly prone to have listed home phone numbers. Calling them around 10 p.m. is good, later is better. I once managed to keep one on the line for over an hour and a half just by staying sweet, imaging ways the company might improve their employees communications skills and implement systems to make sure that people don't get called back at dinner time or bedtime when the amount of the debt is in dispute.

Talk about how reassuring it would be for you if you had received a letter from them enclosing the bill of sale for your debt from the company that you got the credit card from. After all, the world is full of scammers willing to lie about owning your debt just to get you to send them money that will never actually applied to the debt. Talk to them about the reasons it should be company policy to begin their interactions by mailing proof signed by the bank that specifically identifies your debt as having been sold to the folks who are calling.

And could they verify that Miss X actually works for the company and send you a letter of verification along with a telephone number where you can personally call Miss X and apologize to her for being suspicious?

Think about how much money the company could save if they always had the same employee call each person they're working so wonderfully with to clear up those old debts. No time would have to be wasted telling different people the same thing over and over again.

Phone spamming the phone spammers is good, clean fun especially if you can come up with their home phone numbers. And you'll be surprised at how fast the calls stop. So check them out whenever you get a name. Do they have a Facebook page that offers leads to track down their home phone numbers? How about LinkedIn? Or google their name and the name of a city the phone bank may be in.

Oh i have one for ya,, WE got our phone line about 5 months ago, (were we live our cells phones don't get good signal) ,and about 3 weeks after we got it, the calls started ,,but asking for a different person ,and my husband told them that there was NO such person living here,, well the calls kept coming and we told them over and over that that person did not live here,, never heard of that person. ,even called my husband a LIAR!!! So they asked my husband's name,,(bad move) and he told them,, now they are calling for him now.. harrassing him ,,calling us sometimes 3 times a day.. even on Sundays :(

Portfolio Recovery bottom-feeding pond scum vermin, calling from yet another number. Dumber than dirt, or they would not still be calling a phone that has never been picked up, not once! in over three years of calling. At least the Atty General forced them to use their company name in the caller ID. Some dopey lawyer who works for them  -- they hired him  just to deal with all the complaints coming in from atty. general offices all over the country  -- wrote me a letter saying they had "decided" to "cease collection efforts" on a totally unverified debt that is years and years past the statute of limitations as well. This call is call #214 since these dopes "decided" to "cease collection efforts" two and a half years ago.

well im trying to pay off a debt with them i got behind by a month and im planning to sent them 2 payments hopefully more in august to get a lil closer to paying off my debt ,,,,,if i dont know the number calling my house which i barely give out that number due to collections i don't answer my phone or if i do answer it you gotta lie i swear because then they get all rude and obnoxious Ive had my fill of bill collectors and so far they have to be the worst .and believe me Ive dealt with some real rude collectors ,,,,,,

If you want the phone calls to stop advise them that they are no longer to contact you at that phone number.  Additionally if you want all phone contact to stop advise them that they can only correspond with you in writing.  (These are protections setup in the Fair Debt Collections Protection Act.  If they do not comply and continue to contact you at that number, the company is then liable for damages in a civil lawsuit.  Make sure to get the name of operator and ask them if the call is being recorded so that you can reference in a legal complaint should they fail to comply.) Be sure to not give them a physical address, only a PO Box.  It is very typical for a company such as this to try and serve you notice for lawsuit if provided physical address of residence and if you own the residence they will try and place a lien on property to collect the debt.

we received  a call from 404-695-6551.  it was Portfolio Recovery.  I called them and the lady i spoke with advised  me of the name of the person they were trying to contact. i told her that nosuch  person was associated with our phone number/address and insisted that the remove our number f rom their system.  She told me that our phone number was now deleted from their system and that no other Portfolio number would call as our number was deleted from all possible of their phone numbers.

I just called Portfolio Recovery and explained to that the person that they are calling on my home phone for does not live there.We  have been willing to give him their messages.  He has chosen not to return their calls.  We no longer want to continue to pass on their messages.  He does not have a home phone.  The person was argumentive and rude.  Something really needs to be done to stop these people from calling they are not professional and so like a scam operation.

I WANT THESE PEOPLE TO STOP CALLING MY HOUSE ALL TIMES OF DAY AND NIGHT! I AM VERY FED UP WITH THE ANNOYANCE, IF IT IS A DEBT COLLECTOR THEY HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER AND PERSON. PLEASE DELETE MY NUMBER FROM YOUR FILE. THANK YOU!!!!

Called business line,  I called back, said it was a collection agency, person on the phone whs rude and nasty.  I asked him not to call here as it was a business.  Who can I call/write/email to start a suit?

I typically use the *60 to block numbers, but interestingly these numbers come up on that service as "not valid"- "please re enter the number" for portfolio's numbers. so looking for another way to block their numbers now

They called from another number at 7:30 am.  Now from this number at 5:24 pm.  They do not talk nor leave messages.  No one at home has accounts in default.  Has to be annoying scam.  I only answer 'cause I'm expecting work calls and it is really annoying and frustrating.

They have at last count 125 Numbers they call from!!! They call my CELL which I NEVER gave to any business, only friends and family...not connected to any debt company...They have called my CELL like 36 times from 4 different states in the last 33 approx days!!!  Sooo, if a collection agency calls your cell; Check NACA ONLINE for an attorney to SUE!!!! because; "Congress passed the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (?TCPA?), 47 U.S.C. §227, to curtail the use of automated dialers and prerecorded messages to cell phones without the permission of the consumer." and "On May 11, 2012...Plaintiffs sued a debt collector attempting to collect a telephone bill from a third party. Plaintiffs sued Defendant for Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) per telephone call and One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) per telephone call if willful. !!!! ....the 7th Circuit recognized that Plaintiffs are entitled to protection under the TCPA as they were the ?called party? under the meaning of the TCPA.
ALSO, since there are free phone search companies ONLINE (I found 4) that can be accessed by anyone...that show clearly in the FREE AREA that a phone number is from a CELL...And if they PAY A SMALL MONTHLY FEE can see who the CELL Number belongs to...I'D CALL IT WILLFUL!!!!
