They called me from a blocked number but the number they gave me to call back was 18776774651

I have been recieving calls from a company DTA saying their calling for a loan i never paid back... i am currently waiting to hear back from the better business bureau because i actually talked to these people and want to make sure they are legit??

I saw right through these DTA idiots. I blocked them weeks ago and now they called back from an unknown number talking about some kind of check fraud. I think its hilarious of how F*cking stupid they are. The use legal jargon that doesn't even make sense. You can't summon somebody over the phone as the voicemail they left said. Don't volunteer any information to these guys. They claimed they were filing paperwork in my county which they couldn't name. Just repeat what they say back to them and pretend you are writing things down. They get real pissed at that.  First it was Inv Mcmillian now its just a Ms. MCmillian. Be original if you're gonna try and scam somebody. What legit business employees address themselves by their last name and gets irritated a when you challenge them on it. I asked the dumb lady what her first name was and she said "I already told you three times (which she had not). After figuring out what name she was going to give me she said her name was Catherine.  She told me if I wanted to dispute the supposed charges I would have to tell it to the judge. I asked her what judge and what court that I was supposedly going to have to go to. She said she didn't know. First of all you need a judge to issue a warrant if she doesn't know where the judge is or the court then there is no warrant.  They went as far as to contact my family members getting them all worried. It stopped being funny then. I told her to shut the F up and she was nothing but a scam and full of s***.  If she was actually legit, she wouldn't have stayed on the line and endured me cussing her out. I had to hang up on her.

I received a pone call yesterday from "Invesigations" at was from a lady named NANCY KIRKLAND phone # 678-935-0246. She threatened me to get a lawyer or they will have their lawyer prosecuted me for check fraud. When I called back I was put on to an answering service and another lady named Cynthia Speed told me to leave a phone number and my case number and they would get back to me.
Funny thing about this whole situation is that I am 48 years and have never, ever had a checking account in my life.  The laugh is on them!!!

I have gotten COUNTLESS calls from "joes" and "mike" and "steve" and you and I both know that isnt their name.  The accents and the voices dont match the names- SCAM.  Also - cops like to bother people face to face so if it is a check fraud - why are they calling?  All of this is a scam and it is completely bothersome.  IGNORE them and they go away (for a while)

I just recieved a call from 404-935-9490 saying I owed on a payday loan From MSG group was the internet provider to apply.  I've applied in the past and have already paid all loans and they are saying that I Owe 1300 to Cardinal which was the payday loan company.  I've not yet recieved a loan from this company.  this was two weeks ago.  They told me I had to fax a letter stating I've paid but did not cause I don't know who this is.  They just now tryed to call wont leave a message on Answering machine and they call 3 times in a row in one day.  I feel this is Fraud this wouldn't be the first time I've been a victim.  my advise to everyone is never do a payday loan online.  Only at a company you can walk through the door they don't harrase you for money you don't recieve.

The payday loan industry is now known for trafficking people's application data and getting them harassed for false "hot check" claims.

Now say it with me ..... YOU ARE ABUSING THE CONSUMERS!
Please pay your shiny new penalty to Georgia's Office of Consumer Protection and stop blaming victims to squirm out of it. The economy will be better off if you criminals begin acting responsibly .... or find honest employment, or just toss yourselves from the roof of your call center. Whatever is easiest.

The Governor?s Office of Consumer Protection said it investigated a series of reports from consumers that Dorsey Thornton & Associates harassed and deceived consumers in several ways:

Debt collection agency Dorsey Thornton & Associates LLC and its principal officers Wyteria Dorsey and Michael Thornton agreed to a $15.5 million settlement with the Georgia Governor?s Office of Consumer Protection after an investigation into alleged harassment and deception of consumers.

The Governor?s Office of Consumer Protection said it investigated a series of reports from consumers that the debt collector harassed and deceived consumers in several ways:

Threatening consumers with arrest or imprisonment if they did not pay the debt.
Refusing to send consumers written proof of the debt owed.

Identifying themselves as investigators rather than disclosing they were debt collectors attempting to collect a debt.

Contacting third parties and divulging information about the debtor?s account.

Calling consumers before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.

Continuing to contact consumers even after they told the company to stop calling them.

Following the investigation, Dorsey Thornton & Associates denied the allegations but agreed to forego collection of 31,433 accounts, representing a total of $15.5 million in consumer debt. It also will pay an undisclosed civil penalty and reimburse OCP for investigative and legal expenses.

Also received phone calls from the number 404-946-4039.

I received as message as follows: "This recording is to serve notification that you are currently being investigated for check fraud by the criminal investigations division of DTA.  To speak with an agent, please press 1.  If you are receiving this recording via voice mail you have 24 hours for you and/or your attorney to return this call at (404) 935-9487 or (404) 935-9490."  This is a SCAM.  DTA is an alias for Dorsey, Thornton & Associates, a collection agency.  I don't know how they got my number, but my best advice for anyone receiving a call like this is to report it as a scam and to ignore it.

Received a call from Dorsey Thornton& Associates tell me that I owed a total of $1073.00 for a Payday Loan taken out in 2008. When I attempted to tell this no english speaking person that I had already paid this debt off with another company called InterCheck System, he put me on hold, then this guy by the name of Investigator Deok Hamlett came on the phone and started all these threats about going to jail for a bad check. I'm not paying and let's see what happens when I ask him if they are licensed to collect in the state of Tennessee

i paid these people over 3 grand and they obviously didnt pay off my debt that wasnt even supposed to be over a thousand dollars now i have a lawyer and still have to pay my debt to the right people but this i know ill never pay something over the phone again

dta called my cell phone and said my son was going to be arrested for check fraud. my son is in drug rehab and had taken out a loan prior to coming home to get help.was not sure if it was legit so had to call my son in rehab to verify. he said he wasn't sure but he only took out one loan and we had paid that loan off. my son was put on three way call in rehab with myself and dta and the guy was so convincing that i was ready to pay to keep him out of jail, luckily i read this sight and after reading post when guy called  back i told him that if it was legit than when my son got out of rehab he could have him arrested and i would pay an attorney rather than a scam company haven't heard from them since. makes me mad that after all our family has been through that "scum" like this prey on people. should be against law!!!!!

how can these people get away with this. i keep getting calls from agent hiligar saying i owe on a payday loan. i got the name of the loan she said i owed on  in 2008. called my bank and they cannot find a record of that. she said i still took it out and will not accept a letter from my bank. what do i do?

I received several calls from this number, and others which I will list, (after I told them they had the wrong number and not to call again) They asked if I was my brother's name, I just said NO, I am not that person, please take my name off your list. Then within minutes I got other calls from other numbers. The guy called himself "Investigator such and such" (sorry, I don't remember the name, I was just annoyed that they kept calling) The other numbers are: 404-973-2109,  404-935-9107,  and the original, 404-935-9490. I apparently missed one from 404-946-4039 as well. I have never gotten a payday loan, on line or otherwise. I thought my brother had given my number as a reference for one, but he did not know anything about it. He sent me this website saying they were illegal scammers. They called themselves BTA Investigations, and in the initial recording they left on my cell phone, they said something to the effect that "as of Sept no charges have been filed yet......" and threatening to press charges, etc. I gave them my name, when they asked, initially, now I regret that I gave that! If I get another call I will report to TX AG. BTW the calls are coming from Georgia.

I had gotten a call from dta investigations sayin g i owe over a 1500$ to a ace cash i tlold the man i dnt recall ever doing this.... haaa agent johnson send me email too. Funny thing is I cant open it and files says zero. All the subject says is letter of demand. I emailed them back said I cant open this letter. I called the Attorney General office and they said do not talk to these people give them no information and hang up on them. They are a scam and if they do not have license in your state they can not collect. Agent Johnson call me I have a few words for you now. I read on the website Fair Debt collections and he is going to get a few words from me and I also set up a recorder at work. So I will be ready this time this do***e bag calls me. I keep getting these calls at work.  I don't know what they are talking about cause I haven't taken a payday loan out on line.  I told him I wanted them to send me the original document showing what they say I owe.  He kept telling me that they already sent it to me.  I have not received anything in the mail.  So he sent some bogus document and after I opened it I got a virus on my computer, good thing I have good security so it didn't do much to my computer.  I have told him several times not to call me at work and he still does.  If I did owe it I would pay it but, I'm pretty sure it is not mine.  He wouldn't even tell me his first name just goes be Agent Johnson.  Then he wouldn't give me the number to his company, he gave me his personal number.  I got the name of his company from the document he sent me.

This is not exactly correct.  If a creditor is trying to collect on a debt that was discharged in a bankruptcy, that is a discharge violation.  You may have a claim against the creditor and should talk to your attorney about that.  It's important to list all your creditors but collection agencies sell and transfer accounts often.    Often debt collectors will buy discharged debt hoping you will pay something toward them even though you are not supposed to.  Beware.

This company is so full of s--t Dorsey Thornton Associates plaese can some one sue them all these numbers are the same so people when you put your information on line please be very careful because you have jack a-- like them waiting on people to take they hard earn money from chicago.

These people are a pain in my a** i have talk to them about this matter and agent hall and agent cox think that i am stupid to sent them some money when they can't even tell you who you own so people be ware of this jack a** in atlanta Dorsey Thornton and associates this is from chicago.
