Debt Collector
These are scams. Contact your Federal Senators and congressman and ask them to ban all debt collection calls and to have a public service announcement by the FTC and FCC to let people know this calls are now illegal. Real debt collectors are not much better anyway and they dug their own grave and can jump in it. You could also tell them you are a real sick minded crazy AZZ SOB who will gut em and stuff em after torturing them for hours and spreading pigs blood all over them so they will never see Alah.
Better to call your Senator I guess but the second line may get quicker relief from these POS.

Rebecca Turner called me as well, leaving a voice mail at my home, referencing a "legal case" with my "social (security number) attached."  Their big mistake this time is that I am an attorney, with no financials issues or contacts that would put me on any legitimate debt collector's radar, so I knew this was bogus.  A quick internet search of the phone number came up with this thread, and others, about their dubious practices, which confirmed my initial assessment.

I called Turner back, and she transferred me to Jennifer Wright.  Wright told me they were looking for someone who does not have the same first name as I do.  Apparently, they are fishing and using phone numbers listed under the same first initial and last name of the person they think they can scam money out of.  When I pointed that out, she wanted me to verify the last 4 digits of my social security number.  When I told her in no uncertain terms that there was no way she was getting any portion of my social security number, she completely lost it.  She was screaming about how I could not call and badger her and talk down to her, and that I was not better than her.  I reminded her that her company was the one who initiated contact with me, I was merely returning their call to, apparently, correct their mistake.  Basically, she is one unbalanced person.

Honestly everyone -- do not respond to anyone who calls you from this phone number/company.  Do not let them scare you.  Report them to the FTC, the civil Fraud division of the DOJ and your state's attorney general's office, and your state's department of consumer affairs/protection.  If they continue to call you, have their number blocked.  There is nothing these scumbags can do to you - they themselves are the ones breaking the law.

Rebecca Turner called me then referred me to Jennifer Wright--I am amazed at how similar the script is with everyone!!  When I demanded she said the name of the company was "National Check Mediation Services".

She was rude/nasty/etc--said they have 4 criminal felony charges (writing bad checks) outstanding against me and they didnt have to inform me, but were doing it as a "courtesy".  She couldn't tell me the date the payday loan was taken out or the address I lived at then.  She had an employer's name from 2002--who is now out of business, when I pointed out that she had not done her research, she got really pissed @ me.  Said they were going to pull my income taxes and get my current employer's address and arrest me Monday--I told her to go ahead.  She said I thought I was "above the law" when I asked her for proof that it was my debt.  The worst part is they are calling my 80 yr old parents trying to find me!

She started screaming at me and I hung up, she called back and I told her not to call me any more, but to call my attorney and gave her the name /number.  She called me back again and said she was not calling this attorney because they were a bankruptcy lawyer and this was now a criminal case, so she said she would notify the public defender's office and have them ready for me when they arrested me.  Right....you're gonna do that for me.  And she couldn't tell me what county the charges were filed in--just said Michigan.  Umm, yeah, in 2002 I lived in Maryland.

Seriously?!  I was a  little freaked at first and worked up--but I know this is a scam.  And nothing about a payday loan shows on my credit report--if I ever took one out it was over 10 yrs ago, but I'm pretty sure I did not take one out.  Next time they call I'm going to tell them I am recording the call.

I can't get over this--

Got a call saying that I owed some money for writing bad checks. Gave me an address that I never lived at before. Said that they were trying to get in contact with me since March 29th 2013 @ 12:57pm. Said they called me 8 times. I never gotten a call from them until today. Said that I had 4 hours to solve this issue or they were going to have me arrested, be a hold on my child support and my son's SSI check. Which is something they can not do. SO I went and talked to the deputy sheriff in my county and they searched the number and told me it was a scam and that they next time they call tell them to have the papers sent over to the sheriffs office.  They called back to ask if I had came up with any money, I told them no and said that the deputy sheriffs office wants you to send over my case file. She said okay and they would send the warrant for my arrest as well.

Law enforcement is not in the business of collecting debt.  It is illegal to call people pretending to be a police officer.  So right there, you have two red flags screaming "scammer"!  Debt is a civil matter in the US, not criminal, so no one is going to be arrested - red flag #3.  No one calls you up and tells you that you'll be arrested or served court papers - the cops or court process server just show up.

Report the call to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.  When these scammers call back, tell them that on the advice of your attorney (even if you don't have one) you're recording all calls they make to you for use in a lawsuit against them for multiple violations of federal law (the FDCPA).

Bottom line - if a caller refuses to mail (not email or fax) proof via the USPS that you owe a debt to them, they are scammers.  Again, legitimate, law-abiding debt collections agencies do not issue illegal threats to people - they have no problem mailing proof of debt to you.

I received a call from Rebecca too, who transferred me to a man with a Georgian accent. Tried telling me that I was going to be served today. He kept trying to read a bunch of information to me, so I told him to stop and that I would get all of that when I was served. He said "well you aren't just going to be served, you are also going to be arrested", and got upset when I said "okay, I'll just deal with that then.". He said "EXCUSE ME?" and I repeated it. He then hung up on me. Oh and he had the wrong county name to file in. Nice try buddy.

Same thing just happened to me. They tried to say I wrote bad checks. They threated to have me arrested and come to my home, job or have me pulled over. I talked to the Rebecca Smith who transfered me to another lady that was acting just crazy about it. Saying I think I am above the law etc... I said that is never what I said. I just know I have paid my debts and can prove it. They didn't want to hear any of that. I told her I know my rights and you need to speak with my attorney. She continued to yell at me. I just had to hang up. They never once told me who they were. Who I owe the debt to or anything. This is crazy people do this.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I had a note on my vehicle this morning from MY NEIGHBOR saying she received a call from this woman for me about a legal case (which doesn't exist).
My frigging neighbor. I mean, I don't even have her phone number.
I would send a cease and desist letter, however, I have no idea who these people are.
If you know, please tell me. I would suggest you do the same. If you send a cease and desist letter they are legally not allowed to contact you - or anyone else - about this anymore.
