Wow, I smelled something, and Google it, and found just that. Craigslist ad stating that I would cash a cashiers check for 1980.00 take 200 as payment and send the remaining funds to another person, western union in two separate transactions. Then report back detailed information on all transactions.

Dude applied for a Mystery shopper job and recevied a letter along with a check for $1980.00.  the instructions in the letter were to text this exact number (404-981-1769) to let them know they received this "package" (letter and check) with the mystery shopper instructions to go to their bank and cash the check.  They get to keep $200 up front from the check for the mystery shopper assignment, but need to wire the rest to someone in Chicago.  The mystery shopper assignment is to evaluate their bank and western union on how quickly they cashed the check and sent the wire out.  They are to send an email to:  alexxbrown20@gmail.com and also text that same number again once everything is complete.  The check was stopped at his bank and never cashed because it was counterfiet check and would have been returned to him after the money left his account and he would have been liable for it.

Ya well unfortunately in a tight spot my wife and i fell victim to the secret shopper scam. we have local friends that have done stuff similar to this but never for this amount of money, come to find out after the bank has seized my funds that i had already had in my account before cashing the check, the check is a counterfit check. The bank is blamming me for not knowing that status of the check when it was deposited. My argument is how in the hell is it my fault that you cashed a counter fit check. The check came from TD bank for the amount of 1980. I have been on the phone with two federal agents, police departments from where it was shipped, to where it was picked up. So far nothing. All because we were trying to get caught up on bills. 4049811769 is the google number that keeps calling and texting.

Here is how the "PayPal Scam" or any other "online money service" works:

Says they will buy the item and will pay extra to cover charges by his shipping agent.
Says he will PayPal the funds and instruct you to send the extra money via wire transfer or pre-paid card to the agent.
He then sends you a fake PayPal deposit notice email, spoofing the official PayPal notice, that says the money has been put into your account.
You, thinking PayPal has your money, go ahead with the wire/prepaid transfer to the shipping agent, who is really the scammer.
After that, you then find out there was no money transferred to PayPal and are out the money your wired.

Here is how a "Craigslist Scam" or any other "I will send you a check for more than you asked" scam works:

He pays for the item + extra funds to cover his shipping agent costs with a bank draft or cashiers check.
He sends you a check, tells you to cash it and send the extra money to his shipping agent via wire transfer or prepaid card.
You cash/deposit check and wire/prepaid the funds to the agent.
Later, the check bounces as it was counterfeit. The money you sent to the agent, who is really the scammer, is unrecoverable due to it being wire transferred/prepaid card.
You are out money and now run the risk of being arrested for passing a counterfeit check.

This same guy sent me a check trying to buy my wedding dress pretending to be a set designer.  He sent me a check for $1980 when I was only charging $150.  That is when I knew it was a scam.  I took the check to the back to be traced.

I received a response also from this person I think.  He claimed to want to buy my wedding dress.  He was a set designer and needed it for the audition.  He was relocating his office.  The dress was only 150 but he send a check for 1,980 and told me to keep an extra $25 for my trouble cause he was asking me to go cash it at my bank and send the remaining funds via money gram so I could pay the courier that was moving the dress and several other items like furniture.  He claimed to be named Gary and his number was 404-981-1769.  But had the money gram sent to Mellissa Szwed in Coleman FL.  I assumed it was a fraud when I received the unusually high check and took it to regions bank.  The check that was sent to me was a regions bank cashiers check.  It was a fraud just like I suspected.   I tried to give them a phone number and the information that was given to me via text but the bank said they are not allowed to have that info.

This person contacted me about a Craigslist ad and I always Google the number. I let him know I knew what he was up to. I get sick of low-life people like this trying to take advantage of people. I just replied to get a job!

Same person at 404-981-1769 sent me a text wanting by purchase my wedding dress. It wasn't a local number and I'm not an idiot either. I never reply until I Google the number and I found this person on many sites like this one. When you place an ad, if the person contacting you about buying it isn't local, you can bet it's a scam. My reply to this person was to get a job and work for money and stop trying to scam others out of theirs.

I am selling my wedding dress on craigs list and someone texted me and said that they were going to mail me  a money order and needed my name and address.  He also stated that I would have to take the money order to my bank and cash it and pay the person that im supposed to meet.  He keeps texting me, I'm going to report this number.  Good thing I didn't give out any info.

I listed a stroller on Craigslist and received this text from them:
"I am a set designer. The stroller is to be used for the auditioning and am ok with the price. Am currently our of town ON SET but i will be sending you money orders for the payment and also for my private carrier whom wll be coming for the pickup on my behalf. As soon as you get the payment cashed, you will deduct your payment and keep the remaining funds for my carrier when they come over for the pickup. What do you say?"

I said "absolutely not"
