I received a voicemail from this company about a job interview BUT unlike everyone else, when I returned the phone call, I reached a young girl.  She asked if it was about a job interview and apparently she has been getting many calls about this.  I definitely called the correct phone line back so I'm not sure how this phone number was swapped so fast

I got this call this morning. After calling it and getting someone very pleasant on the phone. He told me it was in response to my inquiry of a hospital position that I had submitted. He then asked if I had internet access and after "verifying my information" told me about oppourtunities with doing independant contracting online from home, for just a S&H fee of about $10. Yeah, I'm going to pull out my wallet and tell you my CC # or my check info. NOPE....

I am so happy I decided to look up this number. I didnt even think about it being a scam at first until I had a moment to really think about it. I have been applying for so many jobs online so I thought that it really was legit. Thank you for all your comments and experiences.

I got a call from this number about an online application I filled out. The only thing that bothers me is I didn't put my cell phone number on my application.  I guess it's easy enough to find the number. I first thought maybe it was a corporate office but the place I applied to is in the tri-state area so it's probably bulls**t.

Don't bother with these people, they are praying on those who are looking for jobs.  All they want to do is sell you an ebook, so you can help advertise for them.  You won't make any more at this. I have been doing these programs for years, all they all fall short.  Learn from my mistakes, don't give them anything.

It seemed like it was a legitimate company at first. Then the lady offered me the opportunity to make additional money while I was looking for a job. The offers ranged from phone surveying to data entry all for a fee and I had to sign up right then and there without any further information.  I could not even a website without saying I would pay the initial fee.

Personally, I think it is a fraudulent marketing ploy!  I started to research the number after receiving a message on Mobile Phone Dec 10, 2008.  Fortunately, I found this website with such excellent comments, I will not need to bother calling the number back!

The message stated I was receiving the call because I had applied online to a job within the last week.

I was advised to call this number for employee verification.  The message also advised they couldn’t tell you which company they are representing.  You are instructed to return the call when you have online access.  They repeat the phone number several times, and it is the same number that appears on Caller ID.

Thank you for your very informed comments!

I recieved a call from this company and after getting the automated message to call back, it hung up on me. I waited about 10 mins and then called the company back. They claimed to be an employment verification company that works on behalf of "hundreds" of businesses, mostly private that want to keep their information confidential. The lady who answered the phone could not even give me an example of the companies they represented. I asked her why I had to call back when they automatic dialer had reached me and she said, "I don't know. It's not supposed to hang up on you if it actually gets someone on the line. It's supposed to transfer you to a representative." She tried to get my phone number and I refused, she said she couldn't look up who was trying to employ me without it. So enough said, I hung up on her.

I looked up this number on whitepages.com reverse lookup and got Cell Phone in Oaklahoma City OK. I called the OK City police and left a message for Detective Williams that I believed this to be a scam....perhaps ID theft. I did speak to someone at the number, she said she was with employment verification. I told her I was concerned this is a scam for ID information. She said that she is sure this is a legitimate company because they pay her commission to verify basic information about each caller, but no ssn or dob information. I told her to wake up and smell the coffee.

This number showed up on my phone so I looked it up online to find everyone else here has been called by this number also. They did not leave a message but my number is not listed and I have only been applying for jobs through careerbuilder.com which always tells me to go to a website because they are interested and give more info and it asks about furthering education. I believe this 3rd party vendor is a scam too.

I received a call from this number as i was headed into court about my class a license being suspended. it was a recording stating to call the number when i was near a computer w/ internet. so today i called and got another recording saying something about connecting me to a verification rep. i hung up and started researching the number and came upon this website. honestly, i've been looking for work for the past few months in trucking. i have filled out numerous applications online and in person. i think it is just wrong to lead someone on knowing you are not intending to give them a job or to not have a job available. if i wanted to further my education i would go to a local college of my choice.

Talked with James this morning. After verifying address and phone I told him I was not interested in continuing my education and that was when the call ended.

Checked the Better Business Bureau online and found Employment Select is located in Atlanta an employment agency. They are BBB Accredited. The bureau first became aware of them in March 2008. They have 1 complaint in the last 36 months and the complaintant did not respond, but the company did. BBB did not post the  complaint.

Personally I think it is a scam and I will not respond to any ads that ask if I am interested in furthering my education. I was not comfortable with this one and now know better!

I've been checking Craigslist for jobs and have tried to be very careful because it seems like most postings are scams, mostly associated with some form of continuing education. I've only sent inquiry emails (no personal information other than my email address) to see if I get a response from a real person. I received their call a bit ago to verify my personal information but don't remember applying for any job online. The question in the conversation that raised a concern was whether I was interested in furthering my education. If this is indeed the scam you mentioned, Rob, do you have any clues on how to identify their postings and avoid wasting my time?

I got the phone number called but no one answered. I did get a phone call from an online university called Phoenix University to enroll in classes there. I doubt the truth about there being a job.

Basically what this number is, is a service hired by Phoenix University, AIU college, and all those other online campuses to place ads online for jobs that dont exist. Once you apply for a job they call you, get you to fill out some bu***hit information about furthering your education. They really dont care if you get a job, they make their money from getting people to enroll in these online colleges. Some even include actual campuses.

Hope this helps you all. I know because I worked for them. Its a scam people.

This is a legitimate company.  I called them back and talked to a guy who led me through my a verification process (phone number address etc...)  They did not ask for any crazy stuff like credit card number, account numbers or personal ID stuff. Evidently they cannot tell you which company they are representing or what job you will be doing because you will instantly know which company it is.  The guy told me after I finished the verification that I would soon receive a phone call for an interview.  He also explained that the last time this company posted jobs online they were bombarded with phone calls and e-mails so they had to be more descreet this time. Sounds good to me maybe its Google!!!

The number also called me today, but there was no voicemail left on my phone.  So, I called the number back to see what it was, and it said some kind of employee verification information and I hung up.  I too have been looking for a job especially on craigslist, so I didn't know if this was legit or not.  I usually look up unknown numbers and decided to look this one up and found all these comments about it.  I'm glad I did.  I have been getting phone calls from  the University of Phoenix as well but it was a different area code.  Thanks!

You are absolutely correct.  The whole purpose of this company is to get you to sign up with their higher education partners.  That is how the company gets paid. They have 100+ websites with jobs that most of them don't even exist.   I worked for Employment Select for a period of two weeks and felt so dirty about it I had to quit.  I was misled about what I was doing just like anyone who feels they are verifying their application and get excited about a potential job.  In this economy it is absolutely disgusting that companies are finding new ways to prey on victims
