I am sorry to hear about your circumstances, and I am certainly sympathetic to those who fall through the cracks.  It is a problem which needs to be addressed, and that is something I support.  But I think a careful analysis of the ACA might lead you to conclude that it is not the answer you believe it to be.

The law is so complex, it is difficult to know what exactly it does do, but for good or ill, we are on the brink of finding out.  What I suspect is that it is going to dramatically increase the financial burden for many middle class families.  It seems very clear that it is going to reduce the types and quality of care available to everyone, but especially the elderly.  And I believe that many will lose (or received reduced) coverage due to the mind numbing increases in cost.  

Furthermore, it is unclear to me just how much it is actually going to help someone in your situation.  But as I have said, the overall picture is clouded by the needlessly complex legislation, and much depends on how things unfold over the next year or so.

One thing which troubles me greatly is that the IRS is a primary regulator in the new health care system.  Wouldn't that suggest to you that this new system is tragically flawed from the start?  Or does the IRS come to your mind when you think of compassionate care giving?

In any case, it is to no ones benefit to become uncivil with one another simply because we disagree.  I assure you that "rich folk" as you put it are human beings as well, with all of the good and bad characteristics of folks who are not "rich".  Likewise, "right wingers" and "left wingers" both share the same needs, wants, fears, and vicissitudes of life.  

When we allow politicians to split us into factions and persuade us that are fellow countrymen are enemies to be reviled, it serves only to weaken us, and empower the political class.  And indeed, the emergence of a prevailing view among the political class that they are our privileged rulers, and not our servants, is the biggest problem we face as a society.

There are good solutions to the issues of health care, and countries such as Singapore have them.  But the ACA strikes me as a grab for power, having little to do with meeting the needs of folks in your situation.  I believe it does more to damage the public health than to improve it, and it does so in a woefully costly way.

I wish you and your husband well, and I thank him for his service to our country.  As for my concerns, make note of them, and we will shortly see if I am in error or not.  I hope I am, but I don't think so.

Maybe for rich folks like you, but for people like me, who's husband is a disabled veteran, on a limited income, the ACA is going to be fantastic.
My hubby makes too much money for me to qualify for medicaid, or any other state offered program, and the VA certainly won't cover me, as I am not a veteran.
So I guess in your rich folk brain, you think I should just suffer and die when I get sick, right?
