I called windstream. They say that if you dont pick up, they will eventually assume no one lives there. They are doing something called "spoofing" which basically means they are connected to a computer that give the number "407-000-9876" instead of their real number. Cowardly. Very very Cowardly.

Let me make this clear;

YOU CAN NOT TRACE THESE CALLS.
YOU CAN NOT GET INFO ABOUT THESE COMPANIES.
YOUR ONLY DEFENSE IS NOT TO ANSWER. THEY WILL LOSE INTEREST AND CALL SOME OTHER POOR PERSON!

I just had a call from somebody (407-000-9876) stating that they could lower my credit card interest rates. I, being slightly suspicious, asked Visa or Mastercard. He said they handled all cards. I said OK, which one are you talking about and do you have a website? He then said “www” and hung up.

Got the "URGENT" recording from the unidentified credit card services claiming this is my "last chance to lower my interest rates to 6%" on said  unidentified credit card.  LMAO  If I tried to run a scam like this, I'd be arrested and overzealous prosecutors looking to make a name for themselves  would throw the book at me.  According to the whocallsme history, these con artists have been doing it since 16 Oct 2008 and they're still getting away with it.  WHY?  Where the hell is the FTC and all the other watchdogs who are supposed to close these things down and lock up the miscreants? Where's the NAFTA protection or those wonderful Mounties if this call is originating from our great "friends" in Canada as is often the case? Partying on the taxpayers' dime? Sitting on their fat behinds shuffling papers?  What good is a Do Not Call Registry if the scumbags can still call with impunity?

407-000-9876 just called me.  and I pressed "9". Some weird guy answered the phone coughing, and asked me for my credit card acct.#. When I didn't he kept calling me a dummy and that I would miss out on a great deal. I then asked him what card he wanted and he said, "any of them." I then proceeded to ask for his number and told him that my attorney would contact him with all the info. He hung up.

They called me twice today, third time I was at my computer, let computer answer and SEND a file thru modem to them.  I think they wont call back to day cause their ears are still damaged. Sometimes the "old school technology" works the best.

Same as above.
It has all the looks of a scam.
The only question is who should we report this to so that this operation is shut down.

407-000-9876. THIS IS A FORGED CALLER ID. THEY DON'T GIVE A DAMN IF
THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW. THE PRERECORDED VOICE TO A HOME BECAME
ILLEGAL IN DEC 2008. CALL YOUR FEDERAL HOUSE AND SENATE MEMBER AND
ASK THEM TO WORK ON A LAW TO MAKE IT A FELONY TO PROVIDE OR USE OR
MAKE A CALL FROM A PHONE USING A FORGED CALLER ID. PROBABLY THESE
OUTFITS ARE USING T1 TELEPHONE LINES WHICH PERMIT THEM TO FORGE
NUMBERS. LOG THE NUMBER AND THE EXACT TIME AND HAVE YOU PHONE COMPANY
SEARCH THE END OF MONTH BILLING WHICH IS USED TO SETTLE WHAT TELEPHONE
COMPANY OWE WHO HOW MUCH. THAT BILLING LISTS THE ANI (AUTOMATIC NUMBER
IDENTIFICATION) WHICH THEY CAN NOT FORGE. THEN THEY CAN BE TRACED FROM
THE ANI.

The reason that they want your
card number is so that they can charge their
services to it.  IIRC, they want $995.00 up
front and they claim that they will contact
your credit card companies to negotiate a lower
rate.

This is a scam.  Don't bother with the do not
call list, report it to your state attorney
General's consumer fraud department.

Received call from 407-000-9876 at 3:55 CST 05/18/09

An automated greeting informed me that they can lower my credit card interest rates to 6%, push '9' to speak to a representative.

Pushed '9' and was connected to a male voice who asked if I pushed '9' to have my credit card interest rates lowered.

I inquired as to the name of his company, to which he replied "Cardholder Services"

I replied that this was probably the most vague company name I've ever encountered and asked him what state they were headquartered in.

He replied "Arizona".

I said, "So, if I Google 'Cardholder Services' and 'Arizona', I'd find your company?"

He replied, "Well, I'd think so"

I said, "Ok, then, I'll research your company and if I decide to do business with you, I'll give you a call"

He replied, "you do that, Google away, Google Boy!" and he hung up.

Conclusion:

I think this a scam operation, next time I'm going to stay on the phone longer and see if I can socially engineer some information about who these scum sucking lowlifes are and report them.

I just received a call from the 407-000-9876 number asking if I wanted to reduce the interest on my credit card to 6%.  When I asked them to send me paper work to look at, the girl got quite nasty and said if I wanted to continue paying high interest rates that was fine with her and then she hung up.  I figured this was a scam as I also tried to get them back on the phone with no success.  Guess you cannot be too careful today.

Recorded messsage said to dial 9 to get more information on lowering my credit card rates.  I dialed 9 and got "Rachel".  She asked if I pressed 9 to get more information and I said No - I pressed 9 so that they can take me off their call list because I am on the DNR.  She hung up on me.

I tried to call the number on my caller ID, but it is not a viable number.
