My grandmother has received two calls, but this is the first time I'm searching the phone number. The first time someone called claiming to be her grandson. Didn't know his name. When my grandma said "Steve" he replied with yes. Now, mind you, my cousins all live in Tennessee and have very thick southern accents. This man did not. My grandma didn't realize at first that it wasn't the right person, but when she said she didn't have any money, the caller hung up.
The second time happened this morning (from this number) with the same story about getting into a car accident and broke their nose. They made no reference to their voice being different due to the broken nose. When my grandma was going to ask them where to send the money (playing along with it), the caller hung up and didn't return the call.
Beware. Don't send money to them!

My parents were contacted from a lock smith company with this number coming up on their caller ID (407) 956-4271. My mom thought it might be her grandson since its an Orlando area code and he lives down there. The caller pretended to be her grandson and said he had broken his nose in a car accident so his voice was different. The caller wanted $2200 until an insurance settlement came in next week. She told him to call me (his dad) if he needed a loan and when she did this the caller reduced his money request to $1000 then hung up. I spoke to my son and asked him if he had called his grandparents to ask for a loan he said he had not and would not do such a thing. I did a web search on the number and found an assortment of complaints from people trying to be scammed out of money by someone calling from this number.

Received a call from this number. Said Hi Mom. I thought it sounded like my son, but very drunk. He said he'd been in a car accident and broken his nose. We got disconnected and I called back my son at his cell phone. It wasn't him. Weird.

1/31/12; 9:30 AM CA; Caller claimed to be the oldest Grandson, even knew his name. Same story with the broken nose and asking for money. But my Grandmother asked him what she used to call him when he was little. The guy didn't have the answer for that. My Grandma hung up the phone.

Same as above....they called my mother-in-law claiming to be my son (their grandson) asking for money due to an accident in Barcelona. I'm just curious how they are getting the numbers and making the connections between people, but they aren't too bright to keep using the same tired story...probably knowing that we have started a website on it!! They are likely smart...they need a real job AND a life!!

Called and spoke with my grandmother. Identified himself as her eldest grandson and the reason his voice sounded different was because him and his friend had gotten into an accident in which it was not their fault. They were hit by a drunk driver but the rental company needed $2200 for damages. Wired the money and he again called back saying that he needed an additional $2000 for other things concerning the rental car but assured us he would get a check in 7-14 days reimbursing these fees. I than got on the phone and spoke with "James Whittfield" who informed me when I tried to get the number to the rental agency that he spoke with them and that everything was fine. American Embassy number we received was 877-792-6205. I did a look up on the 407-956-4271 and found out the carrier is U.S. Lec of Fla. Inc. That was all I could find out. Please beware and don't send money...my grandmother got took for $2200

We didn't recognize this number, so we didn't answer. We will put it on our cell phone "reject this caller" list.

Same phone calls as above. Told my parents (the grandparents) that my son was in a car wreck in Barcelona and needed $2,000 plus $240 for exchange rate wired to them within 1 hour. Oh, you can't do it in an hour? Ok, we will wait 3 hours, but that is the longest with the time difference. Any questions, call American Embassy at 855-733-5305 ext. 914 and talk to Mr. Robert Myers.

Called my 82 year old dad, said he was his grandson (he doesn't have a grandson), and he was in an auto accident where he was hit in the face with the airbag. He didn't get around to asking for money because my dad asked him several times who he was and what he wanted. Then he hung up. I just happen to be a Fraud Investigator for 22yrs, so I pulled the number off my dad's phone. When I call the number, I've only gotten a busy signal. Telephone number is also associated with a Power Washing company out of Florida.

Called and acted like he was my grandson, said he couldn't breathe because his nose was broken in a car wreck and then suddenly hung up. Called again 15 minutes later and said "Grandma!....oh, I called you before and forgot to cross you off my list" and hung up.
