received a call from this number and my caller id recorded the call @1:14 pm july 26. for the heck of it, I called back the number a couple of days later and the message said "sorry, the number u have reached is not in service please check the number and dial again". it is infuriating to receive these calls. I should not even bother to check the number.

It's simple it's a "spoofed" number...that means the number that shows up on the caller ID isn't the actual number the scammer is calling from. The DNC can do nothing for crooks or scammers who "spoof" numbers. The DNC and FCC have told me repeatedly that they can do nothing if it's not a real and working number. To get back to the real reason this site is set up for...the actual caller is a scam trying to sell or con you into thinking you won a cruise or Disney Vacation. They will ask for you SS# and a CC# to hold a room or a booking and promise you that no charge will be taken off your card.

call from 4079875239  I answered on first ring but caller did not respond.  suppose his dialing machine found more than one person this time and caller can only talk to one at a time.  I though machines that dial several people at once were outlawed.  Oh well who follows the law.

Got a call from 407-987-5239. These scabs have called numerous times pitching that I had won a trip to FL. I never entered a contest and I am sure winnings don't all out of the sky! I don't want to win anything or hear from these low life's. Wish there was some way to stop them. Until then, I will block their number..

They have throwaway phones, can't be called back, can't be traced, they don't care.
I just got a call from this # and when I answered I got a dial tone.
I got another one yesterday from Fla, it was for the credit card garbage.
Seems like they take a few weeks off, then they start all over again.

Gee doesn't have to be a telemarketing industry cheerleader or accept a federal paycheck to understand that regulators have limited power and laws cannot support absolutes. Nothing that person said is a state secret, and all of you were supposed to learn about such things as legal coverage and what happens to your caller complaints when you registered numbers on the federal DNC.

National Do Not Call Registry Q&A
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry

At the time of Gee's comments you had to hunt around to find the few if any reports which *described the content* of the calls in question. More have come since then describing another vacation travel scammer using canned messages. So now we know we're dealing with a Telemarketing Sales Rule violator. But Gee was correct to point out that you don't have room to condemn a mystery caller until the *purpose* of that call is defined. It's too easy to gang up into a mob here before that definition takes place. Let's also realize that reports here are hearsay, from which we each must judge what rings true.

As to the non-value of the DNC registry, that too is subjective. I would never drop my registration, because I still remember what uncontrolled sales calls were like circa 2002. I realize that as a registrant I don't have to wait for a pattern of illegal calls to form before I can file a TCPA suit. The criminals with autodialers who surged in 2009 and plague us now would have been steadily ignoring DNC since its inception, but for a time they could not. The law did not change but phone tech did. It's a simple matter now to hide from prosecution using cheap VOIP and spoofed numbers. That's not a condition "da gubbament" can change.

The way I deal with unwanted calls is to turn my ringer off. Legit callers leave voice mails but scammers and telemarketers seldom do.

Got a call on 7/25/2013 at 1 pm.  Caller ID said "Florida Call."  When I picked it up it was a prerecorded message that said, "Let the memories begin...."  I think it was a telemarketing call pushing tourism in FL!

If you answer, you're told you've won a trip to Disneyland. Had a friend who took them up on it. Guess you do get free room etc. My friend said beside the money she spent there buying stuff after a few months she got a bill from the IRS for $1200.00 dollars which she had to pay as well.

3 times today, 2 rings and hung up.....annoying at best, illegal, since the number is on the national do not call list if it is a marketing call, at worst. I am reporting it to the authorities.

Here's what you do.  Get ready to put a new message on your cell/answering machine.  Go google SIT tone and find a recording of it to play.  When ready to record message put you phone up next to computer speakers, and play the SIT tone then finish with your message.

The SIT tone is an international tone for this number has been disconnected.  When the robo machines hear this it drops you from their database.  I still get a few calls once in a while, but not nearly as many.

You may want to let your friends and family know about this so they don't think your number is really disconnected

Works for me.

I picked up the phone without saying anything (the caller ID read "Florida.")  It immediately began a recorded message about this being my lucky day in that I had just "won"  a trip to Florida.  Of course, I hung up before it  could ask me for a credit card number.

I just called the number that you're sticking up for.  A recording comes on and says,  "This number is no longer in service."  Any explanation?   Conserving energy perhaps?
