Telemarketer
As with any aggressive and illicit overseas telemarketers, reporting them to the FTC will do nothing. They are from another nation where the US has no jurisdiction.

As a receptionist, I've clocked hundreds of calls from overseas telemarketing companies. Photon Infotech is one such caller, one that wasn't calling me anymore by the time I left my previous workplace.

I made a habit of writing down exactly which ones called me, with a list of tally marks next to each, representing every time I asked them to stop calling. Once the count reached five, I switched tactics. I no longer tried to get them off my line. I wanted to hear them talk for as long as I could.

Time is money. They need to make a certain number of calls a day to match their quotas, and they lose very little if they call you for 20 seconds to hear you say you aren't interested. Instead, keep them talking to you for as long as possible. Ask them about their service. Ask them for details. Pretend to be interested. Give them no information about yourself, but ask for every bit of information on their company.

Once you run out of things to ask about and you've clocked them on for about 10-15 minutes, very candidly tell them that you were never really interested to begin with and that you only wished to waste their time. They will probably become very upset. Laugh at them. Enjoy your schadenfreude. Realizing you are clogging up their call reel, they will eventually remove you if you repeat this tactic a few times... especially if you're getting the same caller.

This works for nearly every overseas telemarketer. It costs you some time, but if you're a receptionist with nothing better to do, it will pay off in the long run. Within a month, this will quiet your phone significantly. It's a whole lot of fun too, if you do it right.

PS: Chandra from Photon, your voice was very soothing. I liked the way you said "Photon", especially your angry voice, when I asked if it was spelled with an F.

Don't blame staff as a whole until you have interacted with each one of them. I am a developer working hard here and have no idea what so ever how business is dealt here. All I have done here is worked on many challenging VC++ & .NET.

I have been getting calls from this number 408-404-3301 three times a week or so. Mostly it plays music, no person talking. (Sounds like Enya music).

I have been thinking about recording a message for my answering machine. The announcement would be the three tones and verbage that ATT gives out when you call a number that had been disconnected. I have been told that some automatic voice systems recognize this and will delete number from their call list. Hey, it might work.

Same calls as the above posters.  Callers have a very thick accent and are almost unintelligible.  I'm so sick of getting these calls at work.

I get a lot of calls in my vm from these guys, often what might be called "a** dialing" which is where the caller doesn't seem to realize they are leaving a vm. Lots of wasted air.

The Best is that the salesperson with a heavy Indian accent called himself "John".  Now, I'm not saying anything against foreign nationals, but when someone lies about his name, I have a problem believing whatever else is coming after that.

P.S. and what the heck is "hygenic IT service"? Do they sterilize one's keyboard perhaps?

Would get a call from this number nonstop.  I pick it up and it just plays waiting music.  Used an extension listed earlier to call someone directly and tell them to stop calling me.  We'll see how it works out, but man these guys are annoying (couldn't understand them either)

These guys call me a few times a week (and have been calling here sporadically for about six months now) to see if my business has any outsourcing opportunities for them.  I gave up trying to get on their "Do not call" list since they obviously don't have one.  Now I just try to have a very pleasant conversation with them where I misunderstand what they're offering and ask them for work.  Next time they call I'll see how I can get them to decrease the number of calls they make.  Less annoyance is better than more.  I wish they'd stop.  Each call confirms I would never want to do business with them.

There is a statutory $500 punitive if the call is of a commercial nature and you are on the "don not call" list.  Be aware you must re-register, as the registration expires every three years.  This was in flux last I checked, but I believe the 3 year roll over is accurate.  I would inform them they are not to call, then write down the time called each time, and once you have established a clear pattern of activity - initiate a small claims action.  Alternatively, the State's Attorney General can take the action, in which case the company is looking at from $25,000 to $1,000,000 in fines - but, you would not receive any compensation.  The upper bound for such actions is not capped - so if the SAG was sufficiently annoyed, they might go for a "death sentence" with a multi-million dollar fine.  Also, individuals, owners, officers, and the companies they are representing all face both criminal and civil exposure.  There is a fellow that did this from offshore currently serving a Federal sentence (= no parole) for this and spamming - so you may get some satisfaction if you are truly that annoyed.

We are working on legislation to selectively block calls from certain countries, based on consumer complaints related to this and other activity from Indian call centers.

Lastly, you might contact the magazine brands and complain - or vote with your pocket book - cancel subscriptions and boycott advertisers in publications that retain such agencies.  This was very effective when one of the cell phone carriers was warned that the illegal activity (calling folks on the no-call list) could be used to terminate contracts.  The same company was also fined for disclosing private information of customers.
