I am a telemarketer and I wish to remain anonymous. I work part-time from an outbound only call center in New York. There is absolutely no way any of our calls can be traced as we go through a 3rd party caller-ID masking service to protect us against accidental NDNCR contacts.

After calling this number 408-746-3040, I had my headset beep. At first I didn’t know it was an incoming call, because in the 4+ years I have worked here it has never beeped. I had no way to answer the call until I mouse-clicked the “Call Next Party” on our call center computer. Someone came through on my headset with a strange series of tones and asked if my call was complete with 408-746-3040. I thought it was a supervisor with our telemarketing company. So, like an idiot I said I had 40 minutes left until break. Then the caller stated “what is the purpose of your call?” I thought…how the f**c did this number call me back? So I said I was calling from an outbound call center which does not accept any incoming calls. I asked the caller how he was able to call me back.

Here’s what freaked me out: He replied “We denied your outbound request, this call is now logged with all routing identifiers” and gave me the number I was calling from (WHICH WAS ONE OF OUR MAIN NUMBERS). He further stated “please do not call this number again” and was gone after a series of clicks.

No private company or household would have this capability. Which only leaves...

After calling this # my phone rang back but it was a strange single ring that was real long. We are also telemarketers.

I Googled this number because of the same situation and came across this post. After doing some research, I found out this number is listed as a "data line" for a company doing advanced cellular and telecom work. Hummm, I guess that?s why they were able to call our unlisted number back.

You either called a phone company internal testing number or some federal agency with reverse routing (Law Enforcement Caller ID) capabilities. Either way, all you telemarketers suck and shouldn?t even call your own mother to tell her what a worthless job you have.
