Was woken up at 12:30 A.M. with a call from this number to my cell phone. A recording says my mastercard from 5th 3rd bank was suspended and to press 1 for more information. Since I don't have a credit card it was a no brainer. What astounds me is that these calls have been being made for at least five years now, seeing the original dates on this forum going back to 2009. Also, the Do Not Call registry only applies to legitimate businesses trying to sell you something. It doesn't keep scum bags from calling random numbers in the middle of the night, sadly.

Rec'd an automated voicemail call from this number stating my 'Merrill Lynch debit card had been suspended'.  Funny, I don't have a merrill debit card.  I called back from a landline and the voicemail said it was "Vector Fabrication".  Hang up on these folks, as they are obviously trying to get financial information from people unwittingly.

Very similar to another Chase Bank fraud, which has been reported here in numerous threads.  The fraud artists have been spamming this site with fake postings insisting the calls are "legitimate".

One of their fraudulent numbers was actually exposed in the Orlando Sentinel as a fraud:

Got a auto-robo call to my cell stating that my Chase Debit Mastercard had been lost or stolen and to press "one" to get it reinstated - I do not have a card with Chase, in fact, I have no cards whatsoever so this is nothing but a SCAM

A recorded message stated that my Chase Debit Mastercard had been stolen or lost, so press "one" to get it reinstated.  I don't have any type of card from Chase nor do I have any credit cards - it's a scam from an old telephone number with a new twist!

Your advice to not give out any personal information is spot on.  Banks would never call and ask for this.  However, your assumption that the number on your caller ID is actually the number that called you is incorrect.  The number has been spoofed Google Caller ID Spoofing for more information.  Your suggestion that people call the financial institution and/or the number on caller ID is also not good advice.  Neither of those actions will do anything except disrupt these businesses.  Please read back through this thread for more information.

DO NOT KEY IN OR GIVE ANY INFORMATION - HANG UP - Recording indicated it was Grow Financial Credit Union and my card had been stolen - not true - Grow Indicated they are getting a lot of complaints and from reading the thread above these SCAMERS use different Bank names.  Report the call to your bank so that they can document and their fraud department can go after and possibly prosecute - SCUMBAGS

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO -- Recording indicates it's Grow Financial Credit Union and my card has be lost - which I know this is not true since I just used it for a transaction - I logged into my online bank account and all was good - also called Grow and they have been getting a lot of complaints about this.  If you get one - call Grow and tell them so that they can document and perhaps get these SCUMBAGS.

I received a call from this number at 4:09am CST on Oct 18, 2011.  Didn't answer and received no voicemail.  Very annoying.

Caller ID says it came from San Jose, CA...  though I presume that is easy enough to guess using the area code.

Got this call around 11:45 am (at least it wasn't in the middle of the night as others have reported). I didn't answer and immediately put it on my cell phone's blacklist when I read the comments here.

If you waste your time with 300 calls per day why doesn't your dumbass take an hour and change your number at the end of your next financial year.

You could send a notification out to all of your customers and still save money if you have to take 300 calls a day which is 78,000 calls a year if you are open five days a week.

I got a call from this number Monday morning at 2:20 am and the same message that was posted here. Their tactic is to wake you up in the middle of the night and count on us to make a mistake when your brain is not really thinking.

Thank you for your comment.  Believe me, if there was something that could be done about this Caller ID Spoofing ? we would have done it long ago.  You, and other people are only mildly inconvenienced by these unwanted calls.  You have the option of simply ignoring the few you get.  We are a different kind of victim here.  We get 300 to 500 calls per day from people who have received one call.  This goes on for a few weeks then, thankfully, we get a reprieve for a week or so -- but it then begins all over again.  We are a legitimate business trying our best to serve our customers.  Being on the receiving end of all this does test our patience.
