I got a call from 408-355-4126 today which the caller ID displayed as a cell phone from CA. The caller sounded like a Hispanic older female 40+ years of age. She mentioned that I was sponsored to receive an opportunity package which was free money from the government that not everyone knows about. she wanted to send a rep over by 11 am to drop off this package after verifying my address that I never gave to her, and I'm not listed. She asked if I'd be available between 11 and 12 tomorrow and I said possibly, call first as I thought it would be best to do some research. She started asking questions and I stopped her. She swiftly said that someone will be over between 11 and 12 tomorrow. I said NO, I said to call first. I asked her for her name then she quickly replied with she's just the phone rep and her manager would be calling back or coming over. I asked her for a website. I got the name, American Benefit Union. I did some research just like others who are posting for receiving calls from 408-981-0122.

IF YOU ARE A TELEMARKETER reading this and you get cussed out and can't take the heap perhaps you should consider a career change. It may be your job to do these cold calls however, when someone is asked to give personal info over the phone with all the fraud that happens in the world, WE do not want to be taken advantage of nor harassed with repeated calls so be prepared to hear negative responses to your negative job!!

Then get a real job you idiot! Nobody likes to be harassed with shady people wanting to come to your house!

I got call from American Benefit # 984-0102 almost every other day. Sometime 3 times a day for almost a year now.  The guy asked me will I be home at 6:30pm someone will stop by drop a package and talk to me.  So I told him NO then he hung up.  Still got call from them again the next day.

I got several calls from the American Benefits Union too.  They were from Harry Mayo.  I said OK when he asked if he could come over (why not).

So several days ago he came over, in person.  He looked to be about 70-75.  He seemed friendly; there was a little small talk.    

He said that GE manages the savings, that this eliminates the middle man, and that there are 15 million members in the country.

So, he has a savings plan (cash accumulation account) that pays 6% per year interest, but if $500 is built up in the plan it would pay 13% interest per year.  It includes a $50,000 life insurance policy if I put in a few dollars.  It also includes occasional picnics and camping trips.

Dues are $10 per year.  It requires a health check.  Funds could be withdrawn from my bank account.  I could put in as little or as much as I liked.

I asked him for some literature.  He said the plan was very simple, the photocopied sheet he was reading from was all there was to it, and he didn't have any literature to hand out.

He asked me if I wanted to sign up.  I said I would have to think about it.  At that point he said in that case he would leave, so he got up and left.

If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  This is very fishy and definitely too good to be true.

I called the San Jose police department fraud unit at 277-4521.  They said look this organization up on the internet and don't give him any money.  They also said they are too busy to deal with him right now.  I guess someone needs to be scammed first before they will act.

A girl called yesterday from phone number 408-984-0122, early morning and woke me up, she didn't identify herself she just said that it was a courtesy call and she talked about some kind of benefits from a stymulus package money that Obama had put aside for people,and that someone will come to my house in one hour to drop a package with information for me and my Wife, she was a very fast talker, she asked me how old i was and what kind of job did i do, i made a mistake of telling her that i was unemployed and my age, i was half asleep and she tricked me. I asked her 3 times what was this call about cause i didn't understand, and she just keep on repeating the same lines about the stymulus package and making emphasis on the fact of "me and my Wife", perfectly ,like she was reading it from a piece of paper. I told her that no one will be home and don't send anyone and i also asked her, how she got my information, she just Replied that someone would be coming to my house the next day(today) at noon, then she said thank you and hung up.
This was soo weird, and made me concerned that this people have my information somehow, today i waited for this people to show at my door and confront them.....no one showed up.
After thinking a lot about it, i came to the realization that the call was some kind of screening procces, they have my age, my job, my marital status, my phone number and perhaps my address. I am thinking that the fact that i am currently unemployed turn them away, still, i am concerned that they have my information,.......is there anything we can do about this?.....i am still considering going to the Police and report them, will it do any good?

They are still at it.  Got called last night and she stated she was from the American Benefits Union and would be able to save me hundreds of dollars on my benefits.  I told her I wasn't interested and hung up.  Called again today and said the same thing.  Told her I STILL wasn't interested, not to call me again and I would be blocking they're number and hung up.  Both calls from 408-984-0102.  Amazing how long they have been at this.  How do they make enough money to keep paying these sap telemarketers to keep making these calls year after year.

same story, phone call from lady about  American Benefit union and package to be dropped off ,then he calls confim coming over to speak to husband and wife for a few minutes, sloppy copys of copied papers wants you to sign that you received the in formation and for only $6 a year you get these benefits. and then his savings plan, will give you high intrest if and when you reach $500. He then tried to get you to sign about six other papers too. he wanted our Social Security # birth date and all too
BE CAREFUL , he is a fast and smooth talker.
To bad for him, but we had this kind of scam played on us before...more careful now and
we will pass on all we can to the cops, BBB and anyone else to try to him to stop.

Same story, different day. She told me that they have over 5 million members, but no website.

Got a call tonight from American Benefits Union, stating that the government has $100 to give me and they want to come by my home tonight between 8-9pm or tomorrow morning between 9-10 am.  I tried asking questions, but all the lady would say is that they're "government licensed" to help return this money to me.... So now it's the day after Thanksgiving and I gEt the call.  They did not identify who they were but kept on about receiving stimulus money, about how they were licensed by the federal gov't, etc. and they wanted to drop by and talk to us.  Pretty much the same as what the other posts put up.  Caller ID AMER FRATERNAL, 408-984-0107.  About 20 mins. later, another person called (same ID, 408-984-0102) but I was suddenly "indisposed".  He hung up without incident. Googled the phone # and found this site.

i have gotten a surprisingly unwanted solicitation phone call... ask for both me and my husband... caller ID says Consumer Benefit... which is kind of weird... I have never heard of this business or entity before. The Lady would not identify herself just that we have been sponsored. etc I said i wasn't interested to please don't call us anymore... She said she will need to speak to my husband... and i told her no way in heaven's way are you going to call us again ... I will report you to the authorities for harassing phone calls....

I'm concerned about people who go along with request fro face to face connection.

Just had a call tonight from American Benefits Union.  My husband answered it and said he'd never heard of them and hung up. The phone rang about five minutes later, I answered and had a woman yelling at me about how rude my husband was that he'd just hung up on her. Excuse me!!!

Just got off the phone with this number, woman claimed it was the largest benefits organization and that we'd been sponsored to become members. She asked me to give her a time that we'd be home so that a member could drop off a packet of information, save thousands of dollars, yadda yadda. Wouldn't tell me who "sponsored" us.

I have big ole dog that is in a kennel by the door... I didn't invite them just answered the question. They will tell me what business they have at my front door - and learn very quickly we do not do business over the phone let alone at my front door with anyone - PERIOD.

I received a call this evening from a lady from "American Benefits Union" phone number 408 987-0107.
She said a person will come by between 7 and 7:30 with a package to help us get the stimulus we are owed, awe were sponsored by a friend, however she would not tell who the friend is.  The person who bring the "package" would be able to tell us who it is.  I told her this person may drop of the package off but was not going to be invited in.

These people called me today, I told them sure come by, you'll meet my pitbull!

If you are on the DNC "being referred to by a friend or relative" doesn't mean anything.    It's possible the telemarketer is intrastate (both you and the caller are in California I'm assuming--area code 408) so the federal DNC basically doesn't apply.   If California has a state DNC list and you're on it, you may be able to file a complaint with them.  In any case I'd file a complaint with the California Attorney General's office since the call is clearly deceptive.

I got my call at 10am on Sunday, April 10 2011.  Caller ID said Amer Benefit and the number was 408-984-0107.
The female caller said they want to discuss the federal stimulus money I'm getting.  They like to have someone come by today.  I said I was on the Federal Do Not Call List; she said it didn't apply because I was referred by a friend or family.

I'm trying to verify if they have a fictitious business name filed with the county (DBA) and a San Jose business license.

One of the employees here said they are being paid by personal check, which sounds "under the table" to me, so probably the IRS is not getting their share. (WE have to make up the difference, right?).

I even said to the caller that this sounds like insurance, which she denied.

They just sent someone to my house!!! After they cussed me out and called back repeatedly, some guy showed up at my house!!! These people really are stalkers!!! I'm calling the police and making a formal complaint...this is really creepy and bizarre that they would go to such extremes...

These people have called me repeatedly after I asked them to take me off of their telemarketing list...after that I was cussed out and called back 10 times by two different girls...this company is crazy!!! Don't even get your phone...they will argue with you and call you back like some sort of stalker...they ask to come to your house...are you kidding me???

I said I could not find a web site, and she said that yes, they don't have a web site under that name.
I asked if they were listed in BBB,and she thought they should be, but of course I checked and they are not listed in the BBB.

Honestly I don't think it's a scam, or how could he be in business for ten years? I am not scum at all!  If he is criminal, I will do some research. it's just telemarketing. He has explained to me he skips al the middle man so people do not have to pay fees. He goes straight to the insurance company. People don't like to be bugged on the phone at night after a hard days work, I understand that. I won't insult you, but that's not cool to talk to me like that. i wouldn't do that to you but since you are "unknown" you would obviously be like that. That's on you, All I know is that I am not scamming nobody, if Mr. Mayo is well you should investigate.
