Nobody should have to ask to be on the Startel or Starion do not call list, if they are already on the Federal Do Not Call List, or if they receive the call on their cell phone.

I received a call claiming they could lower my energy bill and wanted me to get my SMECO bill and give them information, I didn't of course.  When I told them they could mail me information and I would research it, they hung up. The phone number was 203-274-8586 and my caller ID says it was from Startel LLC.

I just want to say that I work for this company.  Almost every single comment I have read on here is explainable. First of all, Startel LLC is the name of the call center whose employees call "on behalf of Starion Energy, regarding your utility bill".  So when searching the energy company after one of these calls please do keep this in mind.  Starion Energy Head-quarters is located at 220 Main Street S ste 206, Southbury, CT. They are a registered energy supplier with the PUC in CT, MD, NJ, NY, DC, PA, OH, and IL.Startel is actually located in Sharon, Pa.
If you've received a phone call from this number and it seemed as though there was no one on the line, there a few reasons this occurs.*the caller is on an automatic dialer and there is sometimes a delay before you are actually connected to each other *your caller has simply forgotten to unmute their phone line when you answered and proceeded to speak to you unknowingly (it is company protocol to mute your phone between callers for quality purposes, even as a senior rep for this company I have been known to do this on occasion)
As both a phone representative for Startel and an energy consultant for Starion Energy, I can say that we NEVER  claim to save ANYONE 50% on their utility bill.  If you hear this in a call, you have misheard, the number is 15%. And we say UP TO 15% because we cannot guarantee any specific percentage for a customer until after having done the math for each individuals usage. Even still, who can guarantee they use they same exact amount of kilowatt hours every month? However, in my experience I have saved some customers well over 15% from their bills. In honesty, this is generally done by switching them from a supplier that they have previously chosen that raised their prices without informing their customers. This is a sad and bad business practice. To retain loyal customers how can you simply double their bills on them? But yes, in this industry, as in any, there are shady companies. But I believe what I do helps people.  This is a very poor economy, why should people have to pay retail pricing for their electric if wholesale prices are available to them?

I called this number back after calling me, and it was an Indian guy on the phone. After speaking with him, i found out they are stealing peoples numbers. They do a thing called switching lines. And what it does is each time they call, it generates a random number. Sometimes it will repeat and thats why we are all getting calls from the same number!! SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW WITH STARTEL!!!

Why a rep for this company comes here to insult people is amazing, zero marketing skills, zero intelligence.

ANYONE can become one of these energy resellers. They simply get a discounted rate from your current provider and make their money on the margin. Current provider still provides the energy over the same lines, performs all service and sends the bill.

There are literally thousands of people trying this, believing that they are going to get rich off of it, violating the federal do not call list. What a bunch of idiots.

Startel is one of our call centers, some newbie accidentally said startel and now all hell has broken loose. smh do your research properly..

SMECO wouldn't want you to go with another supplier and pay a lower rate cos that would take money out of their pockets lol dumby of course they would be happy that you called. i work for starion energy and i'll tell you straight from the jump, this isn't a scam. starion energy is our company name.. startel is one of the many call centers we call from.. duh

It seems that one of the newer Reps for this company made a flubbup. Startel LLC is the call center they are calling from, Starion Energy is the company that signs they're checks. Starion Energy is an AUTHORIZED ENERGY SUPPLIER. Startel is just one of the many call centers that the Reps work out of... Not a scam. had my bill lowered by 11 cents.

Got a call from this number yesterday and today.
I refused to answer each time.

Well, here we go again.  This inhalant abuser called around about 6:40 PM here in NJ.  They left no message and my CID listed them as " Startel, LLC. "

Their 410 area code is now on my Call Blocker and they'll never be able to ring my home phone again from any # in that area code.

In this day and age ya don't do business over the phone !  You can not presume the devil on the other end is honest.  In fact, honest companies don't do business over the phone !

they called my number saying that they are pepco and if I called them back at the 410 number that i would have my electric bill cut in half. Beware

Not only are they making phone calls, yesturday these discount energy sellers came to the house.  Told him to spread the word there may be a need for a big band-aid if they come by again.

Startel  410 379 0063 called 55 minutes ago. Hung up when I answered.

This number was just called to my mother's house and she gave them her account number and address before hanging up...I told her to hang up and we contacted SMECO right away to secure her account!  SMECO was very glad I had reported this and would check into it!

Was very rude and asking to many questions.

We had a call this morning from this number also.  We did not answer as we are now beseiged with telemarkers and fund raisers calling from constantly changing long distance numbers, most of which - unlike this one-show up as "unknown caller" , "unknown number" on our phone. No message was left - hence it is not important until the repeat calling starts.  Then we will do as we have unfortuantely been forced to do with so many others - answer the phone and immediately hang up.  We are normally polite people - this is alien behavior for us.  The government run "do not call' service is not useful without constantly reporting violators. Who has time, given the escalating volume of illegal calls?  

Next step will probably be getting rid of our land line although that is not ideal for us and our international family calling needs (skype and simiar internet connections do not always work well for us).

I have had numerous calls with occasional messages left on my machine.  Today I talked to someone who was irritated (belligerent) when I suggested the mail wojld be a better way to reach me.  The call ended wen the person hung up after I started to explain all the scam phone calls that intrude on my telephones.

Startel LLC 410-379-0063 called me to lower electric bill. Said was State approved.   Also, required to hold on until I can get my last bill.   I requested she send me something in writing through the mail explaining and her response was "You Have A Good Day Maam" and hung up.

12:38 I got a call from 410-379-0063  the guy on the phone was not speaking so you could hear him when he said the company name,  he said I can lower your bill. You live in Giant Mills Maryland, . Told him one you ate not speaking so I can totally hear you and you don't even know where you are calling,  I don't trust you as being a reliable person to speak to and this has to be some kind of scam,  I said goodbye and hung up.

I downloaded phonetray to my computer.  it blocks calls and it is free.

Caller ID agrees with the above posts, I did not hear what company she is calling from on 2-16-12

I called BGE 2-16-12 why does Startel ask for our last bill? Rachel "Energy Choice BGE" said that is for us to sign up for gas electric services on the purchase of such but not the distribution of such, much like Viridian Energy does.
Rachel said 'Viridian Energy' is well known. She mentioned 'Viridian Energy' is on the BGE list at http://www.bge.com/doingbusiness/energysuppliers/pages/default.aspx but Startel is not on that list

1) are you calling from a red brick rambler with a double white garage on the right?
2) how is Dimitri?

This # 410-379-0063 keeps calling. I finally called back and left message No more phone calls or I call Maryland Att. General.

Called a couple of time so far telling me they were calling in behalf of my utility company and could lower my bill. The hook was they said they were required to wait until I found my last electric bill.....Really, required by whom?

This number calls me every couple of months relentlessly for a couple weeks. I dont answer

I had the 0063 number trying to get me to lower my electric bill....They did not even know what company i was with and wanted my information. I laughed and hung up def a scam.

Thanks for the info & warnings! This number calls me every few days now, with no one on the line, after I questioned their offer to lower my utility bill "on behalf of" my utility company. They had trouble with the questions "what is the name of your company & are you registered in MD as a licensed electricity supplier". Previously I received calls, also from Elkridge, soliciting for a "Fraternal Order of" either fireman, police, sheriffs or dog catchers. I think it's about time that we are allowed to block, without charge, numbers from companies that are known to be questionable and harassing.
