Tamianth has given excellent advice throughout this thread in dealing with these nasty scammers.  Seems like they are not only using the blueprint of the "DEA Scam", but some of the same "officer" names as well.  From what I've been reading here, they have continued to use numbers out of the same area codes as well.  BTW, another hole to punch in their story--why would the Indiana State Police call you from a MD state area code?  Sorry to hear you received one of these calls, but am very glad you knew better than to fall for it and took the time to let others know your experience.  Thank you for helping to inform others, from all I've been reading here and seeing on the news, it must be plenty scary to get these calls.  Hopefully by everyone telling their experiences, we can stop these disgusting schemers and scammers.

I received a call saying - this is officer Tommy Marsoe from NYPD. The phone number on my call ID was the number for the 78 Precinct. She said she will send a cop to my house to arrest me. I have to call Randy Smith at 410-567-4118. She said if I do not call Randy Smith she will send a warrant to have me behind the bars.
I did not call Randy Smith. I did called the Precinct and the detective checked my name and info. This is a fake call. But we need someone to stop this. I know some people will be scared and do what these people requested especially the elder and immigrants. Be aware.

I also received a phone call from some idiot pretending to be a sheriff. He told me that there is a warrant out for my arrest. I told him why is that, He than told me I had to speak to a Jack Dawson. I told him that this phone call better not be a prank. So I called the number 410-567-4117 and the person that picked up was the same person that called me. He had a very heavy Indian accent. When I heard his voice I told him that this is a prank and I hung up the phone. After a while he calls me back asking for my address so they can come and arrest me. I told him that I contacted the police and the phone call is being traced. he didn't call back till four days later on my cell phone and I ignored the call.
I did contact the police and they said that there was no warrant out for my arrest. I told the police I already know that because I didn't do anything wrong. The officer told me just don't pick up the phone call and that she wouldn't be worried about it.

Please do report this to your local authorities. It is a crime in all states (felony in most if not all) to impersonate an officer of the peace.

Report it to the real IRS, links above in my post. They are well aware of the scams going on. Impersonating a officer is also a crime BTW.. You might also want to contact the real State Police in Indiana.

However, good luck finding these scummers, most of them attempting this are not even in this country.  It may take them awhile to track these guy's down. It is a scam.

Debt Collector
I received a call from a Jack something (sounded Indian) he claimed to be from the Indiana State police department and that a fraudulent claim has been filed against me. He stated that if I did not surrender myself to the authorities he would issue a warrant for my arrest and they would be at my doorstep to arrest me.  I am a mother of 4 with Lupus, and have not committed any fraud against anyone. I called the  number and spoke to "jack" and he was very rude he asked if I wanted to settle the matter in court or outside of court. I told him that I wasn't giving him anything, not my ss# credit card number or anything. The call ended with him stating I was going to Jail.  I have the voice-mail and am going to upload it to youtube. I have placed a complaint with the BBB as well as the FTC for violation of collection activity, I also plan to file a small claims lawsuit for this matter, If I owe anything or not they can not use these tactics as it is a violation and I can and would win the lawsuit getting me a minimum of $1000.00 for their collection practices.  I do not owe the IRS any money, if I did I would not of gotten my tax returns, he stated this was from 2007 its 2013  the amount they are claiming I owe I know I paid when I did my taxes. I also told him I wasn't doing anything unless I spoke with the IRS and my Accountant since I do not owe his company anything If I owe the IRS I will gladly pay them direct (though I do not believe I do). That is when he said and I quote "your going to jail"  He said there were three separate outrageous charges against me and that they were all felony charges.  I don't know about any of you but the last time I checked there no longer is "debtors prison" and I hardly think that the government would want to waste thousands of dollars, feeding, clothing and housing me for the rest of my life on earth for two hundred something dollars that he says I owe.   It is a scam, I have been getting calls from all sorts of collectors for debts that are past the 7 year collection mark. I will have to pull three free credit reports (you are entitled to one free from each company per year) and dispute the ones that are old. BET my credit score will improve 100+ points.   Report this company for what they are doing, this is nothing more than scare tactics and a scam to attempt to collect on either real or fake debts.

A few minutes ago I got a call from "911" from a person who stated his name as James Murphy and asked me to call a federal officer John Spencer having the number 410-567-4117. He told me John Spencer had a warrant in my name, for not having paid IRS dues. and that if I didn't call right away they would make court proceedings.

I asked him for the number in case I needed to call him back.

I checked on Google to find out that it was the number of Pikeville Police Department. I called them and a lady officer told me she didn't know about any James Murphy.

I had a feeling that this guy was trying to scam me.

I braced up and called the number and a lady with an Indian accent picked up. When I said I needed to talk to Federal officer John Spencer, she said his number is busy and whether it was alright for him to call me back. I gave her my name and number.

A minute later a person with an Indian accent called me. His voice sounded the same as the one who had called me earlier.

He told me he had a warrant in my name for having defrauded the IRS by understating/overstating certain values while filing for returns for the tax years 2011 and 2012 and that the case number was 252LM. The scary part was that he knew my contact number (obviously) and my full address.

He told me that if I wanted I could settle outside court for an amount of $928.

However, when I told him that I would like to verify the amount I actually paid IRS, he got angry and said he wasn't there to answer any of my questions. I politely told me if was important for me to verify in order to protect myself from scams. He got angry and said they would have to go ahead with the proceedings since I was not cooperating.

At this point I told him that I was recording the conversation and have already informed the police about it in my area. He seemed in a hurry to end the conversation by saying he would go ahead with the proceedings and disconnected.

Phew!

Please catch these people and put them behind bars.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I have received this call and numerous others over the past years.  It's always a Pakistan person with a thick accent calling me.  I can barely understand them, not being disrespectful, just stating the facts.

They started calling me around 4 years ago-saying that I did not repay a payday loan that I made online.  I did make a payday loan on line, but it was paid off.  When I asked for specifics, they couldn't really pin it down, and gave me an odd amount that I had to repay.  They called with the threat of; coming to my house, or coming to pick me up at my place of employment, taking me down to King County.  I was laughing within myself and I had some questions. I asked them, "what if when you get to my house, I won't get in your car?"  They said, "well, we will force you in the car."  I said, "you don't even know where I work, how will you find me?"  They said they would find me.  It was getting ridiculous and they had called me back and forth during this time and I basically found out it was a scam.  What I'm thinking is that they used to work for this payday loan place, they have all of my information, my ss#, my bank account, name, address, phone, employer, and they call with the threat of doing something legal to hurt me.  I kept asking for a contract, but they could not produce one.  I just told them, "do what you have to do-because you guys are illegal and you're fake."  They left me alone for a while, until they called again, the next year.  They even called my references (you have to place some references on file for payday loans sometimes) and told them, that they themselves are basically in trouble because I didn't make good on a payment.  My references called me very concerned and alarmed.  Anyway, one of my references played the part of my "attorney" that they  told me to get.  When we called them back, and "my attorney" asked them questions, I was in the background and I started laughing, they started cursing and calling me all kinds of expletives.  This was a "law firm" at that time.  They call me yearly.  Now the last call that I received was this year on 10-31-13; it was a call from "911", which scared my sister who was home at the time, because my phone announces the caller.  I am getting very tired of these people and want to pursue them legally, but they always change their number or move around and you can't find them.  They need to be stopped.  They are truly a joke.  I want to pursue legal action against them-they are truly harassing me and I'm getting very tired of them.  I can count on a call from them every year.

I just received a call from someone named Jason washingtn @ 4105674117, who identified himself as detective working with the IRS.   He said the the IRS has filled charges against me for non payment of money owed to them for 2011 &12 tax returns in the amount of  $987.  He said failure to make immediate payment would result in immediate arrest and 7 years imprisonment. When I started to ask question about the vadility of this claim he  even provided me with a case number.   I told him I am sorry but am not going to give personal financial information over the phone so do what u must.  I  was so freaked out!!!! And immediately started looking up this number while holding for an IRS agent to shed some light on this situation.
