It's explainable alright.  Art Miller who runs Kids Support Network also owns the fund raising company that is hired to do the telephone calls to solicit money for the charity.  They used to spend all of the money (99%) on administrative costs (2008) until people started noticing.  Then (2009 and later) they began collecting a bunch of crap and donating that crap to other charities to make themselves look legitimate.

Check their tax returns, you can see it all there.  They spend ALL of the cash on administrative costs.  ALL of it.  ALL of the donations are goods, not the money that you donate.  They claim to have collected and donated $200,000 worth of goods to the Salvation Army in 2009.  The goods are described as toys, clothes, misc.  You read that right, $200,000 worth of toys and clothes to one charity.  If you believe that really happened, go ahead and donate your hard earned money to them.  Maybe Art Miller can get a new car.

Tax returns are at:  http://www2.guidestar.org/organizations/a/42- ... rt-network.aspx

The 2009 one is the with the huge non-cash donations.

The 2008 one is great.  In that one, they weren't sophisticated enough to lie yet.  That was the year where everyone saw the 99% of money to administrative costs.  They spend $161,686 on "expenses" including $157,923 to their "Fund Raiser" and only gave $23,900 in non-cash donations.  Probably some old clothes and toys.

I just checked the same MD state page.  The actual percentage spent on administrative fees is 36%. Still high, but possibly explainable.

Got a call from Kids Support Network from this number looking for donations. Looked up this charity on the MD Sec of State's website. According to the Sec of State, this charity spends 99% of the money it collects on management and fund raising. It's a sham. Don't waste your money.

We have been called several times by this group looking for donations. The last time they wanted to send someone by our house to pick-up a check. This she told my wife is what I did last time which is not true.
